I appreciate the fact that the producers didn't feel the need to destroy his legacy by tearing him down just so they could paint him as a burnt out dinosaur that needs to be taught how wrong he is by a new generation. He avoided the modern Hollywood treatment and it was a huge success. Strange how that goes.
...and at the same time avoid another trope they do now where the girlboss/minority is perfect and never fails. He's portrayed as human, he can be defeated.
In the movies, yeah. When you see him without makeup, lighting and all the production he looks closer to his age. I mean, he still looks fantastic for a dude his age but it's a little less hard to believe.
The hasn't hit the old man stage yet. He's younger than me & my son calls me an "old lady" bc of my age, but I think differently, just like Tom Cruise!

@@RSTI191I think it was alot more than that, Didnt SR71 Pilot Brian Shul say that when doing a 90* turn at top speed they would cover a whole state or something like that? or Atleast I think he did
I find it interesting how when Maverick flies the bombing run all the students thing it's impossible, but the other instructors stay quite, because they know how good of a pilot Maverick is.
As much as people might hate on Cyclone for being a bit of a hardass, credit for him recognizing when Mav's methods, if unorthodox, are effective and not shutting it down.
"You said to create a team, sir. There's your team." I think the best for me about the sequence was 1) Bob was the one they cheered on, since Bob took a lot of crap early on in their training and b) Cyclone realized Maverick's teaching capabilities right then and there.
Nice to know mavwick STILL (30 years later) has not figured out how a STOP SIGN works. He must run that sign in front of her house 15 times during that movie. Excellent example of judgement and leadership abilities, which has served Pete Mitchell so well
Ok Karen.. I ride my motorcycle without a motorcycle license because I couldn’t care less about the government. I will always wear helmets and jeans but not because I was told to.
Granted, he has a drop tank on the 18 but flying like that will still eat through your fuel, which is why pilots don't tend to go full afterburner unless they absolutely need to. Fun fact, in Ace Combat 7 with full speed parts installed the Darkstar will easily outrun missiles.
I think Darkstar is a homage to the SR-71 Blackbird, whose missile countermeasure was acceleration, despite having a radar cross-section the size of a barn door!
Interesting little fact when Maverick sets time to target as 2.15 it actually takes him roughly 2 minutes and eight seconds to reach the target approximately seven seconds more than displayed in the movie.
@@ggNotSureenope they didn’t let civilians pilot multi million dollar, still largely classified advanced weapons. They sat in the back seat. For every shot where you can’t see the ground, they weren’t even in the air. Doesn’t make it less cool, they just didn’t fly for real idk who started that.
Movie logic. And people don't actually want to use nukes, they're always waiting for someone else to use theirs first so they can use theirs in response.
When early in 80's Israel bombed Iraqi nuclear powerplant (with casualties of 8 Iraqi technicians and one French), it also didn't triggered nuclear war. Just resulted in some international and political angry reactions. Without major retaliatory military action nor full scale war..
Because Daggers just knocked out the enemy’s nuclear facility before it was finished and online so now they can’t produce weapons. Do they ever say who is building the underground facility in the bellybutton of a mountain range?
Seems like those "Admirals" hated his ability so much( jealousy) they almost wanted him dead. Once Maverick got shot dont that one admiral(John Hamm) almost clapped, like oh well Mavs gone, next mission/ party.
No. He never clapped, you could see he felt just as bad as the rest that Maverick was gone. John Hamm even made his voice crack for the scene, while maverick might annoy him Cyclone like him wants everybody to come home safe. He just knows that he has to put logic first to get the other 5 pilots home safe over losing all 6 if they were to go back for Maverick. When your the boss you have to make calls you don’t like and you can see the pain in cyclones face as he makes that decision for them to continue heading back to the ship. And the relief and disbelief in his voice when he says Maverick after the f-14 is super sonic, because he knows there’s only one man good enough out there to fly that baby home with Rooster on it.
It seems to me if the biggest limiting factor in how good a fighter jet can be is the squishy human inside, a fighter jet with no squishy human inside would bs significantly better

4/10 on excitement for Top Gun 3. Not sure where the story can go from here and there is a higher likelihood of them ruining the movie
