  • Kaplan Turbine works on the principle of axial flow reaction in which water flows through the runner along the direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the runner. Kaplan turbine is now widely used throughout the world for high-flow and low head power production.

    In this project, we will learn about the Design of Kaplan Turbine using Matlab and Solid works. The main purpose of this project is to automate the design process of the Kaplan Turbine Runner using MATLAB. In this video, we will learn how to write a MATLAB code that takes user inputs of Power output and Available head and develops the blade profile at different sections along the length of the Runner blade.
    The procedure to import blade profile coordinates to Solidworks to design the Kaplan turbine runner is also presented in this video.
