Do I still need sun exposure if I take a D3 supplement ?
I go through all ur lectures but it's little bit confusing regarding vitamin C and D side effect u explain same side effects of both vitamins like transferse ridging of teeth 🪥 u should explain it separately and clearly for examination point of view for MCQs
This is the best lecture on vitamin D anywhere on internet
Thank you so much 😊
I appreciate you!
Try watching my video on vitamin C as well, I think you will like it! Thanks 🙏
I am an M.D. and vitamin specialist.I agree how complete and clear/concise this is but to learn even more I can suggest the one by theNinja Nerd...It is fabulous and will blow you away..

It's serviceable. If you're a doctor learning from RUclips.
I laugh watching your lectures more than I would laugh in any comedy show. Thank you for putting knowledge in our brains and smiles on our faces.
Thank you 😊
You are the funniest man I ever heard. It's pure genius to incorporate it into your tutorials.
I appreciate you so much!
I literally laughed on the tone used while describing PTH as Vit D's father :D Thanks a ton for your videos! Really helpful and entertaining as well.
My pleasure 😇
First time ever any lecture didn't seem too long or boring! I mean I get bored of even 5 minute lectures and your 30 mins just flew by! This really is how medicine should be taught! Thank you so much!
My pleasure!
Thank you so much for your comment!
This is how the medicine should be taught not like your freaking professors with their powerpoint. loved this line. your videos are awesome, makes the subject interesting. Thank you very much. plz continue teaching like this.
My pleasure 😇
I really dislike professors who rely on PowerPoint.
@@girlgreenivy They were the norm in my previous University (considered an ivy league college in my country), I quit college lol.
I have adhd AND I TELL YOU I FINISH THIS VIDEO WITHOUT SKIPPING AND REST TIME , YOUR VIDEO LITERALLY ATTRACTIVE ENOUGH FOR MY BRAIN THAT THEY DECIDED TO FOCUS OMG!!!
Wow 🤩
Thank you 🙏
YOU ARE DA BEST ONE I CAN SAY! LITERALLY MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH LEARNING ABOUT ALL THE VITAMINS, watching your videos are so fun and such a relief, my professors could never!!!!
I'm so glad!
Please help me by sharing my videos with others!
The way you make biochem interesting and easy to follow is so good!! I'm studying for finals now, and this series is really helping me stay interested in my biochem speedrun XD thankyou!!
i was confused with biochemistry and your videos are like an intravenous line for me so you re the reason i m still alive thank you
Wow! Thank you!
You are the best online tutor in the world.
Thank you 😊
Extremely informative and beneficial to our health.l like the narrator's confident and cheeky tone. The humor is helping to get the message across more effectively. Thank you.
The pleasure is mine!
This is amazing, its lovely how you make the whole lecture so entertaining 😊, please keep up your work.
The way u connect the various subjects of medicine to make absolute perfect sense and the fact that u combine it into a patient presentation is simply amazing and very useful.😊
I appreciate you!
I am a computer science student and I absolutely loved this video.
Thank you 😊
This video is so good. Surely gonna watch the whole vitamin series. 👍👍💜
Thank you 😊
I swear, if I had any of these lectures, I would’ve aced the tests and learned much more than the traditional way of learning.
Thank you 🙏
What about hair loss and depression in vitamine D deficiency?
In one of your slides it was indicated that the RDA for D3 is 800 IU. I read that when this study was conducted, there was a transpositional error by a factor of 10 and that it should have been 8000 IU’s. They never bothered to correct the study.
I tried hard to understand the link between PTH and Vit D and you make it easy really thank you for your beautiful explanation ✋
Thank you 🙏
Oh my God! I literally need that at this moment. Hitting like before watching. Thank you so much for this!❤️
My pleasure 😇
I thought I loved your channel, but when i saw that your 'mentor is Dr. Thomas Sowell and now....

Pretty comprehensive lecture. Thank you ;)

A lot of the modern chronic illnesses COULD technically be traced back to less natural light exposure as contributing factors... Even near sightedness of all things as sunlight exposure helps regulate the shape of the eyeball !
i totally love all the lectures. I bought the ObGyn course and it was so good.
I am honored, Sarah! You made my day! Thank you so much!

Dude, you're only in your 20s, that's insane

oh my god, that's funny!

But, (the proverbial but with one T)...
7dehydrocholesterol in skin cells, can either become cholesterol with the help of enzyme, or, it can be mechanically synthesized (UVB+heat) to cholecalciferol (7dehydrocholesterol is created in those skin cells, no need for the liver-bing-bong you described)
(cholecalciferol is not active, but it is highly preferential for many cells as all cells then can go on to create the further metabolite calcitriol the active vitd3 hormone)
(*There is no vitamin d ergocalciferol in plants (ergo=fungus).
(*Supplemental cholecalciferol is exactly the same compound synthesized in our skin.
(*margarine has vit d only if fortified and it's still garbage
(*cholecalciferol freely diffused, so mostly nix on that intestinal absorption bit,
(*as far as i know, there is no enzymatic feedback loop for the creation of 25OHD
(*the first hydroxylation is of cholecalciferol in the liver, the second of calcidiol in the kidney into calcitriol
(*don't forget retinoid X receptor (RXR)
....then
cholecalciferol will have small amount free, and mostly bound by VDBP/albumin (if ingested may also be hitching on cholesterol transport.
Some of that cholecalciferol will indeed reach liver cells and be hydroxylated to calcidiol and which then goes into systemic circulation, and that will mostly be bound by VDVBP/albumin, some of it will be free, only some of that calcidiol (no willy nilly conversions here - by physiologic demand only, we wouldn't want a lot of active calcitriol in system circulation: endocrine system) when it reaches the kidney (yadada) will get hydroxylated into 1,25OH2D3, the active hormone (the other two: cholecalciferol and calcidiol are not "active" but are highly utilized by the autocrine/paracrine/intracrine/juxta yougetthepicture system- think immune modulation.

Where were you 3 years ago?😭 I literally had an awful time understanding these topics😭 and I almost hated my physio and biochem classes. I had good for nothing teachers. The name breakdown is great, but what is up with the fer part of cholecalciferol? is that an iron-dependent ferredoxin enzyme for moving electrons to make that Mg hydroxyl dependent enzyme work or something?

😁😁 thnx for reply
Thanks 🙏..: great job 👏 thanks. Would have been nice if you could mention how much sunlight is needed for Vit D maintenance on a daily basis. I heard it is very high in terms of duration and amount of sunlight exposure. Like more than 30 minutes of direct light hitting a good area of your body.

Note for myself : Pan-40, decrease pth, crohn, ckd all cause vit d deficiency
Hi, can you please make one on epistaxis
Calcitriol like PTH causes reabsorption of calcium from bone when there is hypocalcemia.May vitamin D supplementation in such condition deteriorate bone health?
My Vit D levels are at 19, I have been taking Omeprazole 40 mg once at day for months and now my Doctor send me twice. I do not take sun either. My Doctor prescribed me D2 50k once at week, but I am so afraid that it does not work. I am also Low in Ferritin (@ 13 but my Doctor is not concerned about that.) . I feel so exausted, cannot sleep, have anxiety, difficulty breathing. Don't know where to start or what to do 😪😭😭😭😭
I agree. Dr Thomas Sowell is a truly extraordinary guy.
Indeed!
Thank you more

The question is why we always check for cholecalciferol levels in blood instead of calcitriol for deffciency?
Because cholecalciferol is what that makes calcitriol.
