Minor correction. Sorry me again haha. The difference between alpha, beta, and gamma are the methyl groups or lack of on the ring, and not on the end. The end is the same. This matters because the body gets rid of peroxynitrite with gamma tocopherol by nitration of the ring, ortho to the phenol functional group. Alpha can not undergo nitration, and thus can not clear this reactive species by virtue of having a methyl ortho to the phenol.
