How could it be both nature vs nurture, because if it is nature made no need for it to be any other, if it is nurture, that means he developed it before nature would have therefore it could only be one or the other.

It was by the book. A book ya'll don't know, a book that got the cops to Jane in a matter of minutes, on the spot, and her out of the house. A book that saved her life, literally, even if you do not grasp it. And good that you do not. A book none of you internet keyboard experts have a place to judge.
Yeah that was intense, she couldn't shout "come back". I was thinking oh no the guys going come and kill her, and the interview will be her murder case.

I cannot believe that "Jane" had to tell the dispatcher to tell the cops to come back. Like can you imagine them being so close to rescuing you and then they start walking away? @@maitri4063 Yeah, but I think the operator kinda has to do that, keep the conversation going, to make sure she's still there, she's responsive, the situation isn't changing, they aren't on the move etc. At first it was weird to me when the operator asked if the house she was in was owned by the abductor, but then I thought that it probably makes indentifying him easier if he escapes before the police get there for example. A situation like that can change dramatically in seconds, so the more information the operator gets, the better, especially if it escalates or goes sideways. I seriously was about to have an anxiety attack listening to the 911 calls. The girl was whispering and scared, on top of that the dispatcher kept asking questions but acted very swiftly, kudos to that. So glad she made it out. 👍
I was terrified for her. The questions from the 911 dispatcher were a little over the top for me, I understand that they need to get as much info but some of the questions that she was asking this poor girl who was trying to stay quiet I think was unnecessary, then the cops showing up and the dispatch having to tell them to come back WOW !! Cudos to that girl. She was Terrified 😨
I know like stf up already! Maybe she thought it would keep her mind busy talking to her, having her answer questions. Then again, she gleaned a whole lot of information that may possibly have become hazier around the edges after the adrenaline wore off and her brain began to try and deal with the trauma.
If Jane Doe ever reads this, I want her to know she didn't only save her life with her bravery but she's a hero for bringing closure to the other victims families and allowing them to rest in peace. People keep saying she's calm but she's trying to stay quiet and I can hear her silent panic. I was in a similar situation 21 years ago, I was 17. A guy I had recently met, had me come over and forced me to stay with him, and I was assaulted so so many times. I was only about 90lbs and he had a knife, I don't know if he'd have actually used it but I was too afraid to try to get away or even struggle against him. I was there with him for a few days. I kept trying to convince him to just let me leave, I wouldn't tell anyone what happened, etc. I tried to appease him and act like I was enjoying his company. I think he was on meth because he didn't sleep at all until the 3rd night, the whole time he just watched tv and ranted about crazy stuff, and occasionally would assault me, I couldn't go to the bathroom by myself, eventually he had crashed but making sure to keep his leg against me. We didn't have cell phones in those days so I had no way to call help. I waited for a long time, and I occasionally would test what would happen if I just moved and broke physical contact with him, and when I saw that he wasn't reacting or stirring, I started to move away gradually. I remember the fear of waking him up and trying to quietly leave the room, and then the mobile home we were in. I remember getting outside and just running as fast as I could, across the street was a gas station, I practically flew there. I can feel it again listening to Jane's phone call. She sounds "calm" but she has to be, even though you're reeling in terror, you really have no choice but to keep it together and stay as quiet as you can. I am glad she got out.

You do understand that they are sending the police as soon as they understand the situation and know where to send them? In this call the police where sent after Jane Doe's first sentence. The rest of the dispatchers questions is to gather information about the perpetrator, how the person looks like, is he armed, name etc, in case anything happens or he flees and also to gather crucial information for the police whom where sent to the scene.

@@BeefGold is a hero? Lol, females generally have the government on their side in every single case. Females absolutely dominate men because of their SMV, so they have all the power in society. There’s nothing “heroic” about it. Besides, men and females are hardly even the same species. We don’t feel the same things, think the same things, or experience the same things. When you have u heard of a female who gets lonely or depressed? Obviously it doesn’t happen. So stop speaking for females because you literally don’t know what you’re talking about. You sound like a peasant praising a king 😂
I loved this so much! Hes toying with them. His narcissism is blatantly obvious. You can see how excited he gets with the female officer. She's like FBI profiler level. Making him feel like he's not a bad guy and that she knows how he feels. They know they have him as soon as she went in there. Narcissistic psychopaths can't help but to fall for this. You have to play their game. Sending a woman in there was perfect reverse psychology. Sometimes to catch these people is to be those people. Excellent video! This is the first one I watched that got me hooked on your channel. There are so many true crime channels but this one is my favorite. The editing is awesome. I love that you will pause occasionally during the interrogation to explain to people the back story and explain how and why the interrogaters do what they do. Just fantastic work! Thank you!
That beginning call was SO stressful since I didn't know where the call would go. I was dreading the possibility of him waking up, but fortunately he didn't and Jane managed to escape
Yea I was freaking out too. I was sitting there in the last moments as saying, "get out! Just open the door and run for it! The cops will see you. Either that or bash him with something heavy."
Massive props to Detective Major. I am at a loss as to how she didn’t throttle him in the interrogation room. Also, never seen a cop be able to get a serial killer to confess to everything without a print to do so. Give this woman a raise!
This woman’s bravery is beyond compare. The suspense during that call was insane, not even the greatest horror movie could even hold a candle. Thank goodness those officers found her.

I exhorted that dispatcher to Shhhh! all call long !!I was si afraid he get awaken by the dispatcher! That girl is a real hero! I really hope life is good with her.
She should have found a heavy object and brained him before calling 911. If we got lucky she could have saved us hundreds of thousands of tax dollars by not having to feed, clothe and house this pile of shit until he dies.
This happened in my hometown. The 911 call, unfortunately, was farmed out to another county to answer our calls. That dispatcher knew nothing about our town or where she was talking about. This shook our tiny town to it's core. To have a serial killer in our community, squatting in a house, and killing women. Kudos to our officers and investigators for finding out he has killed before and would have continued , if not the bravery of Jane.
What about the dispatcher? She did an excellent job that you've overlooked because the 911 call was out of town, as far as I'm aware its gonna be pretty rare to get a 911 operator that has grown up local to the person they are speaking to?
@@Carlitoast_ Damn your on your game but you know she better was on a cellphone. Remember abandoned house . No landline. If he had a landline in there he’s a fool.
It irritates me greatly that the dispatcher asks her a TON of questions without even reassuring her. I mean, girl she just told you she's been abducted, that her captor is sleeping, naked, while literally whispering. Send the damn police and shut the f*** up. It's terrifying to imagine the fact that he could've easily woke up and just killed her just because the woman kept making her talk.
It’s not the time for comfort. It’s a do or die call, they’re only interested in getting the info to get her out. And the dispatcher said several times don’t talk if you can’t/don’t want to, Set the phone down. The outcome of the call is what matters. Trying to comfort someone in times like this can absolutely shatter the person and render them feeling like a helpless victim. A small scale example of that is Jane crying when the dispatcher asked if she needed an ambulance. When someone is in a desperate situation, they don’t need comfort. They need laser focused attention to detail and for the person helping to be as emotionally stable as possible, they need a rock who can help not a mummy to cuddle.
Actually keeping the callers mind in the moment by asking questions that require them to make observations can keep them calm and reduce anxiety symptoms. It can also aid in the investigation and lead to finding her faster. The operator did great. It's absolutely insane how so many people act like they know how to do the operators job without having any experience in the job or even a related field. It's very arrogant.

Detective Mager is amazing. I feel like I would enjoy talking to her. The way she's so interested and invested in the individual (Shawn). She acts like she's on his side the whole time, nurturing him along until he spills the beans. ❤
The female interrogator, Mager, was brilliant! Her composure and care were perfect. It's unexpected, but a caring voice, even to a killer, can crack the shell.
We're all nutjobs. Some nutjobs enough to make a harsh comment towards our significant others, some nutjobs enough to kill 10 people. It's human nature to be nurtured to nurture, and to be neglected to neglect. That nurturing might save a person, and that neglect might kill one someday.

This is such a clear case that law enforcement needs to be stricter with repeat offenders even on lesser crimes. This guy assaulted 3-4 women by the time he was 18, he should certainly have not walked around getting more women pregnant...
The poor children that are biologically compelled to look at him and see their father is a tragedy on top of a tragedy. What a mess he's made of so many lives.
Nah he served time for that, you can't use prior evidence in new cases. They can use his patterns and history, but you can't use someone's previous charges to determine whether or not they should have kids. Unfortunately the women he got pregnant weren't all the way there mentally at some points, he very clearly preys on women eating at the salvation army and previous drug users. This all happened in my hometown, 4th st. Laundry is walking distance from my house on 10th st. The focus here needs to be on Jane and how no matter what trash this pig slung at her, her heart is amazing and her devotion to God is otherworldly. What a beautiful, precious angel. She saved my life, my daughter's life and our community in Ashland. The acts causing those poor girls who lost their lives are so heinous and terrible, but this isn't law enforcements fault. It's a sociopaths fault. Kim did a HELL of a job with this dude. He's on death row, and APD made sure he didn't see the light of day after this. Floaters from Mansfield blow over here a lot, they would've have no way of knowing he even existed in an abandoned house. The house has since been torn down and it's haunting.

I love that this entire video keeps the victim in mind. Throughout the interview, we get little snippets of Jane's story and crime scene evidence just to cut through Shawn's obvious lies and deflections of what really happened. Her approach, the timing, how she built his trust, how he wanted her to be the one he revealed everything (maybe everything) he did to her, and her alone...I was just dumbfounded. He's an incredibly sick individual and the fact that he's getting the death penalty in this particular case seems to fit the bill. I'm glad that the defense didn't try to get him off on an insanity plea. There was no way he would have qualified. He knew exactly what he was doing. He might have had completely ridiculous reasons for doing what he did, but the murders were calculated, planned, and executed in such a way there was no doubt he knew what he was doing. They often deliberately use female detectives with guys who kill or attack women. Because they see women as lesser people and think women are "below" them, they tend to underestimate the interrogator, and be less careful, making more mistakes.

As a former 911 operator, the questions that we ask are not slowing down response times. All we truly need is a location and a nature type for the call and it can be sent to the dispatchers. That can happen within seconds of the call, depending on your caller. But the questions you ask and the notes you write while you are the phone with them are crucial to the safety of your caller and the responding units! The dispatcher made her aware that if she felt uncomfortable to answer, she could be silent. We do have to ask a lot of questions that might seem unnecessary but it’s important to get as much info as possible while you can. The most important thing here is that she got out of that situation and the units are safe as well!
That dispatch call is now used in training to show how to not handle that as a dispatcher, so if you are a dispatcher & you believe that how she handled that was right. You need to be fired or quit your job immediately before you get anyone killed Asking if she gets permission to use the bathroom, or what kind of pizza the guy likes, & all that extra shit is incredibly reckless & endangering. She knew the exact name of the guy & even spelled the last name out so obviously she had his information pulled up. She doesn’t need to know all that extra BS information that second while the girl is in the room with him & shouldn’t have kept talking especially without whispering when the girl said she woke him up & she CERTAINLY shouldn’t have told her to try to leave on her own with no protection & the officers not even certain what house exactly. If she thought she coulda left fine she woulda already done that. You think she didn’t think about leaving before dispatch mentioned it? Ofc she did. You are really bad at your job & will get someone serious harmed someday with your logic if you think she didn’t create an incredibly enormous unnecessary risk for that girl

Also dispatch “let’s play a game of 20 questions”
It's literally their JOB to ask all the right questions, so that someone in that situation CAN stay as silent as possible while giving them the info they need for the rescue.
Imo the dispatcher should have stopped asking open ended questions and switched to yes or no questions (as much as possible). Then Jane wouldn't have needed to talk so much. Like instead of asking "where is he?" she could've asked "is he in the room with you? Is he awake?" Etc

We didn't have cell phones in those days so I had no way to call help. I waited for a long time, and I occasionally would test what would happen if I just moved and broke physical contact with him, and when I saw that he wasn't reacting or stirring, I started to move away gradually.

@@CrAzYpotpie I hope it's not lost to anybody that there are good cops in the world. It appears that it's you who has a lack of wit. Of course you original comment is correct, but completely out of pocket.
@@jordankosick7178 the "good cops" don't say shit about the bad cops, which makes them just as bad. Some jobs CAN'T have bad apples
Detective Mager needs to be paid whatever she asks for. That interrogation tactic was amazing to watch. When she started, they had a few counts of s*xual a**ault and at least one count of abduction to confessions of multiple murders, likely multiple counts of s*xual a**ault and arson. Not to mention they found multiple missing persons. It's good this guy is no longer out walking around and multiple families have closure.
Detective mager is an amazing woman sadly she retired
I never thought I'd be watching a serial killer documentary and see a person I used to serve at a local bar as one of the victims. Kind of in shock. Very, very sad.
crazy who hides under there mask within this Harsh world
You need to go more in depth about this.
who was it
@zizag online Thank you.
Although this took place a while ago, I don't know what families of victims see, and don't want to make anything harder on them. When we don't see a regular customer coming in anymore, we assume they just started going to a different bar or moved away. No one expects to hear they were murdered by a serial killer in such a horrific way. Its chilling to the bone, and my prayers are with all these families.
@zizag onlineOf course. God bless 🙏.
massive props to jane for how calm and quiet she was through the whole call. i can't imagine how terrified she must have been in that moment.
Especially when she told the 911 operator "...tell them to come back...". Omg were they really leaving?!
@@trudylambert8775 no way they'd leave, they probably just drove passed the house trying to look for it
The female detective was absolutely INCREDIBLE! Had they not said she was a detective, I would have been convinced she was one of the worlds finest criminal psychologists! The attorneys knew he did it, the courts knew, his family and friends knew. Everyone knew. I sincerely hope there weren't more than 5 victims but I have this terrible feeing in the put of my stomach there were more. Many more. What a sick son of a b!
They often deliberately use female detectives with guys who kill or attack women. Because they see women as lesser people and think women are "below" them, they tend to underestimate the interrogator, and be less careful, making more mistakes.
In most cases like this I can’t not agree. I just started watching this. The guy is diabolical enough, scitzo ect. I’m very sure there are more victomes unaccounted for. It’s sick.
@@erikak8187 agreed. Since you just started watching, I won't spoil anything for you.
@Anne - I don't know that it had anything to do with how he viewed her in terms of being "below" him. I think it was a matter of how she made him feel comfortable, that he could let his guard down. He even made a comment towards the end of the video about how the male detective was angry and combative, so he didn't want to talk to him.
The female detective came across as empathetic and like she understood why he did what he did. Her tone of voice was non-combative. She never came across as angry or hateful towards him. She made him feel comfortable.
I have no idea how she was able to do it. I could not have maintained my cool in that kind of situation. The other officers would have had to pry me off the guy.
But, in the end, who really knows how he felt? Nobody can truly understand what was going on inside that sick f**k's mind.
I'm so glad that Jane Doe made the phone call she did and was brave enough to get the police in the building. Had she not, there almost certainly would have been more victims.
More people need to watch this to ensure they understand the warning signs - to make sure they're not a victim in a similar situation.
Thank god he's off the streets!!! The terrible part is - I fear there are more people like him out there. And that makes me sick to my stomach.
@@JeffHochberg it’s sickening because there are others out there like him and even worst than him. Some of them are family members, pastors etc, I can never at any point come to terms with these men who raise their babes only to rape and kill them, and some mothers they know but blame the kids because they are afraid of being alone or what they think society will say. I protect my child at all cost, she thinks I am too clingy but so be it.
@@kymgardner327 you know - it's ironic - I was talking with a friend of mine yesterday and we were discussing how there were all these times when we were little and we thought parents/relatives were crazy for saying/doing the things that they did. Then we got older and wiser and end up saying "wow - I guess they really did know what they were talking about!" I hope your child realizes the same. Keep being an awesome mom - keep your baby under your wing and protect them until they're old enough to fend for themselves. Only then will they know that what you were doing was for their best interest. Just love and cherish as much as you can! And hope that there are good law enforcement officers and people like Jane Doe to help uncover these sick people and make sure they can't get to others!
What if the person causing harm hears her 🥲
Not by putting her in immediate danger of harm.
That dispatch call is now used in training to show how to not handle that as a dispatcher, so if you are a dispatcher & you believe that how she handled that was right. You need to be fired or quit your job immediately before you get anyone killed
Asking if she gets permission to use the bathroom, or what kind of pizza the guy likes, & all that extra shit is incredibly reckless & endangering.

Died 😂😂
But that moment of feeling like they are saved just by breaking through to the dispatcher can make them have a moment of feeling saved, which intern can cause them to slip up and lose their instincts and talking too much is one of them. Do not ever think that these demons and flesh are not on high alert ready to end your life and there's just to get away with one more fix. After all you are weak and powerless over a person who has empathy, and is malignantly pleasured by the act.
She was very good imo, she got so much info very quickly and calmly. If that’s the last heard of the person calling you need as much info as possible.

Ha! 🤣✌️
So happy she was brave enough to make that call.. These other cases probably would probably never have been solved and thanks to the female detective who got him to talk, building a rapport with him.
The first interrogation officer deserves credit as well-he stayed on track and kept the suspect a bit off balance while using a whole bunch of techniques: “befriending,” confronting, using the suspect’s own words to point out inconsistencies, etc.
I have great respect and admiration for (most) police officers. In just an eight hour shift they may have to respond to dangerous situations, use their knowledge of laws, take unenthusiastic people into custody, assess health conditions and give resuscitation care as appropriate, interrogate suspects, get “physical” and accurately document each interaction. Amazing people!!
She is such a brave person. I couldn't even imagine what she felt like and was going through. She's also a hero In my opinion because she help find other people he killed she helped a lot of souls. I hope she's doing okay.
@@SqueakyWheel__Inc. It's a necessary part of their job....
Every bit of information can be helpful for them to find her and know what they're walking into. She did tell she didn't have to talk if she couldn't, after all. Which she did. And it all worked out.
@@SqueakyWheel__Inc. dont spew like that if you dont know what youre talking about. imagine the man woke up, killed the woman calling 911, and fled the scene. they need a description of the man’s appearance, habits, property, etc. just in case. but i do agree that the dispatcher could be talking quieter.
She was very brave. She likely spared many lives. I pray this woman has found a measure of peace. I can't imagine the terror.
Props to the woman who did the interrogation, the way she kept cool through all of the horrors he described and gently coaxed so many confessions out of him is beyond impressive. I hope she got a raise after this.
Are u kidding me?! 90% of what she asked should have and could have been asked after the girl was rescued. Her asking all these questions AFTER being told he was in the room was ridiculous!!!
