I am the second woman with my husband who was looking for Warren. I also testified in the trial but this is first time I saw Brian's response to what he did .Makes me sick how nonchalant he was about taking he human life he thought didn't matter if anything I hoped we help show that He did matter and is very much missed

In our small town we have a homeless man exactly like Warren. Our whole community helps and protects him. We all helped him build a small cabin, garden, dog pin for his pups everything. He works for the local garbage company. His dogs are the best dogs ever and he lets them out everyday at 3 bc he knows that’s when the kids get home. They come running up to greet the kids and then play until dusk. Then we walk the pups home with a plate of dinner. I can assure you that Warren was well loved by his community more than that psychopath could ever know. I hope he gets life and is never let out.

While you can do your best to help them, you don't really know them sufficient to understand what happened in their life's that caused them to be homeless now. Those people had a home and family before. You don't really know what happened because they can tell you the history that they think it's better, we can't put ourselves and our family at risk to be superheroes... But if you're rich you can buy a house for them if you want... Another option is they really have offered home for him and he simply didn't wanted it. There's homeless people who don't want to be part of a family or have a home. There's interview on RUclips, some homeless people still have contact with family but simply don't want to get back. Reality is too complex, simply judge people by one topic without knowing the whole background is silly.
Scariest part is the fact that this guy was 100% going to become a serial killer if he wasn't found so quickly. No possibility of parole was the smart choice, the second he gets out, he's gonna do it all over again.

To be fair. the homeless man was very very old. so the worse case scenario for her is that her friend dropped dead alone on the streets. if you have a bond with someone specially the old folks... you would get worried even just 1 absence
This is why I HATE how society likes to judge people who don’t live the normal, typical types of lives. Some people go through horrid experiences and end up at places they never would have imagined. This doesn’t mean that they are dangerous or less deserving people. Though society will sometimes judge them as such, which makes it harder at times for them to get employment and get back on their feet. It works the other way as well, where if you have a home, family, job, people will automatically assume that you’re an upstanding citizen who they’d have no problems inviting over to their home for a barbecue. It’s exactly how animals like BTK and Gacy got away with their crimes for so long. Yet still people continue to make snap judgments on people just based on surface level things, when by now you would think we’d know better. Thankfully some people do look past the surface, such as people in this town that took Mr. Barnes under their wing and looked out for him some. I just wish he would have had a safe place to stay so that this monster couldn’t have done what he did 😢 Poor man, it makes me SICK to think of his last moments. 😣
The man living under the bridge usually doesn't bother anybody. In fact, speaking as someone whose spent a small amount of time on the streets, homeless people are surprisingly kind and helpful.

The cops knew what they were doing. The 'suspect' was confessing. Cuffs might have spooked him, made him fully realize the consequences of his action. Spoiled brat, used to saying and doing whatever he wants. By not cuffing him, they let him exercise his freedom to be a smug prick instead of remaining silent.
On the other hand, from what we can see I would say he never expressed danger in the proximity of the cops so I can kinda understand not cuffing him. Idk it just seems like while he may understand whats right and wrong theoretically, he has something missing to not act on "wrong" things. And the details he went into while they questioned him were more telling about his fascination with the human body and death. It is like his brain is working way different OR he is missing some barries that "normal" people have. All in all might be best to put him in an enviroment where he won't be able to do further "experimenting". I cant imaging how the parents handle it, since they were making a lot to give him the help or guidance he was needing with all that testing and in the end sh*t still went south in an extreme way. Like when is a redflag a real redflag with a person that is diagnosed with some mental "disorders" like him. Even the mother of his friend said he is unusual but she trusted him and his mother. Very vile, sad and difficult case.

This happened in my home town. Warren was actually a well know and loved member of the community. He was not housed but he had a job and was often seen downtown reading. There is a memorial for him at the bench he used to frequent. He was missed immediately and still is to this day.
I went to school with a kid who was EXACTLY like Brian. I think I was a lingering target for him because he would always forcefully touch me and make dark jokes like this and such, and would put me in these awkward situations where I was forced to hang out with him. I never liked the kid, I always had a bad gut feeling about him. So I avoided him at all costs, eventually I found out he was a registered sex offender. Trust your gut guys. Everything a person says comes from somewhere, take every word and action seriously.

Not only did he murder that man. He simultaneously ruined his mother and fathers life, their business. He single-handedly ruined his entire family for absolutely no reason.
You're very right but I also feel as if the parents are partially to blame. The kill kit, the doctors, the schools- they all warned them. Hell, even the blood on the bumper and the ID. But it took finding the head of an innocent man for them to realize what everyone else had been warning them about from the beginning. So while I feel for them, I also feel like the way they coddled him through his violent behavior and made the school feel bad for bringing it up and claiming discrimination (while he himself has discriminated against fat people, Asians, homeless people and more in his "jokes") definitely contributed to him being able to do this in the first place. When they found the kill kit, at the very least, that should've been enough to call the cops, get him committed or something. But they just gave him a slap on the wrist and promised not to tell if he didn't do it again. This is also through the consequences of their neglect to recognize and neutralize the danger/threat before he was fully formed and found his conditions to finally follow through with what he'd been fantasizing about for so long.
@@Prettyp1999 I think it’s a ‘no easy answers’ situation. I can agree to an extent, but what exactly are they supposed do? They threatened calling the cops, but if they knew the law, the cops can’t really do anything because he hadn’t technically committed any crime; it’s alarming, but it’s not a crime or enough to prove conspiracy to commit murder just owning a bag full of tools, zip ties, and knives. He was formally diagnosed, so we know they had him see a psychiatrist, but even kids that get sent to therapy have ended up committing heinous acts + he’s legally an adult, so they can’t force him to keep going or take medication he’s been prescribed. They couldn’t have him involuntarily committed because he wasn’t showing signs of psychosis, and even if they did, the best they could get is a 72-hour hold. The most they could’ve done is kicked him out, and that’s basically just shoving the problem out of sight where he possibly could’ve continued killing others or even retaliated against the family. His mom even said she looked for further resources but nobody in town could see him. This all on top of taking care of another child and trying to pay the bills. These things always seem easy on paper, but if you’ve ever had to deal within the system, there’s often very little assistance/resources available for people like Brian’s parents until it’s too late.
I read about him that he had been planning to kill someone for some time and targeted a homeless person because he believed that they wouldn’t be missed. Boy, was he wrong. Turned out that Warren was immediately missed and a lot of people in the community cared about him. How senseless and heartbreaking.
Yeah, people tend to forget that homeless people are still someone's friend, someone's family. They are people. My sister's body was found on the 2nd in a makeshift tent in a field of trash. She became heavily addicted to meth and heroin, and chose to be homeless very quickly so she could focus solely on that. Her life was pretty tragic the last 15, she couldn't cope. But my mom never lost hope for her, even from 1500 miles away. People were keeping tabs on her for almost 4 years. Homeless people are people amd they are loved more than most people recognize.

sometimes you can tell that someone does bad things because of bad parents at home, but his parents seem like genuinely good people and I feel so incredibly sorry for them.

Anyone shitting on someone for laughing when they see a severed arm have clearly never been in a situation where they saw something like that. Nerves are a weird thing and laughing is a very common response to a very nerve wracking situation where you don’t quite know how to respond. I sometimes think people who have seen things like that a bit too much (paramedics/firemen etc) need ways of coping with it, and if it comes out as that, so be it. Being desensitized to it is sadly, almost needed in the job.
I agree I'm in my residency on ER having seeing lots of things once I had to apologize to a patient cuz i laughed when I saw how messed up her leg was (it got separated from her body on an accident), it was my first time seeing smth like thought out of the books, so I got nervous and just laughed it off.
Oh the only time I’ve seen something that harsh was a corpse coming out of the water in front of a fully packed Beach, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone laughing and I personally was in shock and that memory of just seeing the corpse put me in dark shock

To the women who befriended Warren, Thank you for showing Warren such kindness & being such a good friend. So many people see homeless people as just a nuisance & as being "lesser than". You gave him a nice place to read & a few dollars in his pocket. Warren no doubt was touched by your kindness & love & was thrilled to have such a nice spot to read. But your biggest gift was standing in for his family & made the missing report. Most people wouldn't have bothered. I'm sure Warren saw you as his friend & as his family. So many different reasons people end up homeless & people from all stratas of society too. So true to not judge a book by its cover. I learnt this lesson years ago. I used to work at a dance school & a homeless man used to sit across the road outside of the post office, in the afternoon, with a bottle of beer. My boss would call the cops to move him on which really pissed me off because he never harassed anyone & I thought he should just be left alone.People would give him a wide berth & act as if he was invisible. I’d have to collect the mail from the P.O. Box & he’d always give me a cheery hello. I’d always respond likewise & over time talked more & more with him. He was filthy, unshaven with matted hair & getting on in years. He’d lived an incredibly full, successful life. Well educated and esteemed professional. Had been married with a family until he suffered a traumatic experience & his marriage & career fell apart. His mental health took a hit & time passed then there he was outside the Post Office. I looked forward to our chats & would give him food & a few dollars (he never asked for anything & was greatly appreciative) found out he had many people who interacted & looked out for him in the area. It was a sad day when he wasn’t there one afternoon & I found out weeks later he’d passed away one night. Someone had looked into his backstory & wrote an article that was published in the newspaper. The evilness you think you see is a secondary personality system. The primary personality system, to me, trained in this area, looks like severe neurodiversity. Autism out of control. My son is autistic, but not to this extent, he has obsessions with morbidity and is not affected by horror and gore to the normal extent of a none Neuro diverse person. He can also talk about scary things quite matter of fact. He was diagnosed before age 7. Fortunately. With lots of support he's learned amazing empathy and skills. I suspect this person has flown under the radar, the parents aren't "on it", and here he is a grown man with full blown obsession with death that he wanted to explore out with normal rules and laws.

there are 3homeless people living around the corner from my street who i cook for 3times a week. they are the nicest people whos lives were just struck with alot of bad luck. i know alot of people look down on the homeless, especially young people. iv had to bring them clothes and shoes often because for some reason youngsters pee in their shoes or on them while sleeping. its horrible and i will never understand why humans are so cruel to the lesser fortunate people

This is proof that you can be “homeless”, and still be a decent person. So many allow the depths of their own depravity turn them into a monster. Hunting season perhaps? Get the feel and you get a good meal. And it's not psychotic and morbid, just a good experience to hunt ones own food. Then you can even relive the skilled kill by making etsy jewelry out of the bones, maybe keep the teeth and pelt for home decor. Keep some Jerky in the freezer. Autism is a spectrum disorder and while it can be a factor in someone's behavior, the vast majority of autistic people would never hurt anyone. That's a very harmful stereotype.

It says a lot about what a special man he was. It also says a lot about the folks who looked past his homelessness and genuinely cared for him. I wish more people were like this. Some of the homeless people I have encountered are the kindest, most generous folks I have ever met. Those who have so little are often willing to give up their last $5 to help someone in need, while so many with plenty just hoard all their wealth.
There isn't much anyone can do anything about it beyond a state therapist 5150'ing him. It really comes down to the parents who were not educated or tech savy enough to see what he was like on the internet or in front of friends.

As teacher of 13yr olds, I have been worried about several of my students but was told that I'm racist, petty, inconsiderate and whatnot. All of them went on to become serious criminals with one killing both his parents in cold blood when they didnt want to give him drug money. Another stabbed another for a cigarette. I’ve watched so much crime and mystery shows/movies. With & without my mom . sometimes with my aunt. The idea of brutally harming someone NEVER popped into my head for the resolution of anything. Even out of curiosity.

I was homeless for a few years when I was in my early 20s and this was a constant fear of mine. Some of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met are/were homeless. My heart goes out to this man's friends and family

I work at a pharmacy and I find that at least in my area, the more money you have, the worse of a human being you tend to be. Tons of homeless people who are very thankful for everything they get.
i hope everything is better for you now friend. i was also homeless back in 2020 and people seem to forget that we are just like everyone else. i had people spend money they didn’t have to put me in motels (which is obviously a privilege not many have) literally because they were so terrified of me being r*ped and murdered as a 19 year old homeless girl.
Well you have to remember that there are many people with special needs who may show similar personalities. But not all of them are murderers. I think the ones who have genuine red flags are worth monitoring though-- like obsession with hurting, hurting animals ofc, talking abt death, etc

In our small town we have a homeless man exactly like Warren. Our whole community helps and protects him. We all helped him build a small cabin, garden, dog pin for his pups everything. He works for the local garbage company. His dogs are the best dogs ever and he lets them out everyday at 3 bc he knows that’s when the kids get home. They come running up to greet the kids and then play until dusk. Then we walk the pups home with a plate of dinner. I can assure you that Warren was well loved by his community more than that psychopath could ever know. I hope he gets life and is never let out.

This is why I HATE how society likes to judge people who don’t live the normal, typical types of lives. Some people go through horrid experiences and end up at places they never would have imagined. This doesn’t mean that they are dangerous or less deserving people. Though society will sometimes judge them as such, which makes it harder at times for them to get employment and get back on their feet. It works the other way as well, where if you have a home, family, job, people will automatically assume that you’re an upstanding citizen who they’d have no problems inviting over to their home for a barbecue. It’s exactly how animals like BTK and Gacy got away with their crimes for so long. Yet still people continue to make snap judgments on people just based on surface level things, when by now you would think we’d know better. Thankfully some people do look past the surface, such as people in this town that took Mr. Barnes under their wing and looked out for him some. I just wish he would have had a safe place to stay so that this monster couldn’t have done what he did 😢 Poor man, it makes me SICK to think of his last moments. 😣

The man living under the bridge usually doesn't bother anybody. In fact, speaking as someone whose spent a small amount of time on the streets, homeless people are surprisingly kind and helpful.

This happened in my home town. Warren was actually a well know and loved member of the community. He was not housed but he had a job and was often seen downtown reading. There is a memorial for him at the bench he used to frequent. He was missed immediately and still is to this day.

I think I was a lingering target for him because he would always forcefully touch me and make dark jokes like this and such, and would put me in these awkward situations where I was forced to hang out with him. You're very right but I also feel as if the parents are partially to blame. The kill kit, the doctors, the schools- they all warned them. Hell, even the blood on the bumper and the ID. But it took finding the head of an innocent man for them to realize what everyone else had been warning them about from the beginning. So while I feel for them, I also feel like the way they coddled him through his violent behavior and made the school feel bad for bringing it up and claiming discrimination (while he himself has discriminated against fat people, Asians, homeless people and more in his "jokes") definitely contributed to him being able to do this in the first place. When they found the kill kit, at the very least, that should've been enough to call the cops, get him committed or something. But they just gave him a slap on the wrist and promised not to tell if he didn't do it again. @@Prettyp1999 I think it’s a ‘no easy answers’ situation. I can agree to an extent, but what exactly are they supposed do? They threatened calling the cops, but if they knew the law, the cops can’t really do anything because he hadn’t technically committed any crime; it’s alarming, but it’s not a crime or enough to prove conspiracy to commit murder just owning a bag full of tools, zip ties, and knives. He was formally diagnosed, so we know they had him see a psychiatrist, but even kids that get sent to therapy have ended up committing heinous acts + he’s legally an adult, so they can’t force him to keep going or take medication he’s been prescribed. They couldn’t have him involuntarily committed because he wasn’t showing signs of psychosis, and even if they did, the best they could get is a 72-hour hold. The most they could’ve done is kicked him out, and that’s basically just shoving the problem out of sight where he possibly could’ve continued killing others or even retaliated against the family. His mom even said she looked for further resources but nobody in town could see him. This all on top of taking care of another child and trying to pay the bills. These things always seem easy on paper, but if you’ve ever had to deal within the system, there’s often very little assistance/resources available for people like Brian’s parents until it’s too late.

I read about him that he had been planning to kill someone for some time and targeted a homeless person because he believed that they wouldn’t be missed. Boy, was he wrong. Turned out that Warren was immediately missed and a lot of people in the community cared about him. How senseless and heartbreaking.

Yeah, people tend to forget that homeless people are still someone's friend, someone's family. They are people. My sister's body was found on the 2nd in a makeshift tent in a field of trash. She became heavily addicted to meth and heroin, and chose to be homeless very quickly so she could focus solely on that. Her life was pretty tragic the last 15, she couldn't cope. But my mom never lost hope for her, even from 1500 miles away. People were keeping tabs on her for almost 4 years. Homeless people are people amd they are loved more than most people recognize.

sometimes you can tell that someone does bad things because of bad parents at home, but his parents seem like genuinely good people and I feel so incredibly sorry for them.

Nerves are a weird thing and laughing is a very common response to a very nerve wracking situation where you don’t quite know how to respond. As someone who’s seen things like that I’ve laughed a few times not because it was funny but because I was just so shocked my brain didn’t know how to respond to what I was seeing
I sometimes think people who have seen things like that a bit too much (paramedics/firemen etc) need ways of coping with it, and if it comes out as that, so be it. Being desensitized to it is sadly, almost needed in the job.
I agree I'm in my residency on ER having seeing lots of things once I had to apologize to a patient cuz i laughed when I saw how messed up her leg was (it got separated from her body on an accident), it was my first time seeing smth like thought out of the books, so I got nervous and just laughed it off.
Oh the only time I’ve seen something that harsh was a corpse coming out of the water in front of a fully packed Beach, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone laughing and I personally was in shock and that memory of just seeing the corpse put me in dark shock

Thank you for your comment. Warren sounds as though he was a super bloke. Being homeless doesn’t make anybody less valuable than any other member of society. So many different reasons people end up homeless & people from all stratas of society too. So true to not judge a book by its cover. I learnt this lesson years ago. I used to work at a dance school & a homeless man used to sit across the road outside of the post office, in the afternoon, with a bottle of beer. My boss would call the cops to move him on which really pissed me off because he never harassed anyone & I thought he should just be left alone.People would give him a wide berth & act as if he was invisible. I’d have to collect the mail from the P.O. Box & he’d always give me a cheery hello. I’d always respond likewise & over time talked more & more with him. He was filthy, unshaven with matted hair & getting on in years. He’d lived an incredibly full, successful life. Well educated and esteemed professional. Had been married with a family until he suffered a traumatic experience & his marriage & career fell apart. His mental health took a hit & time passed then there he was outside the Post Office. I looked forward to our chats & would give him food & a few dollars (he never asked for anything & was greatly appreciative) found out he had many people who interacted & looked out for him in the area. It was a sad day when he wasn’t there one afternoon & I found out weeks later he’d passed away one night. Someone had looked into his backstory & wrote an article that was published in the newspaper. An amazing man who left an indelible mark on many lives. RIP Jim, you’ll never be forgotten.❤️🌹…

He was diagnosed before age 7. Fortunately. With lots of support he's learned amazing empathy and skills.

there are 3homeless people living around the corner from my street who i cook for 3times a week. they are the nicest people whos lives were just struck with alot of bad luck. i know alot of people look down on the homeless, especially young people. iv had to bring them clothes and shoes often because for some reason youngsters pee in their shoes or on them while sleeping. its horrible and i will never understand why humans are so cruel to the lesser fortunate people

It's even worse than that, he says it almost bragadociously. Like he's some sort of comic book villain about to let out an evil laugh, as if he thinks the cops are going to be intimidated or impressed by how sinister he is. I’ve watched so much crime and mystery shows/movies. With & without my mom . sometimes with my aunt. The idea of brutally harming someone NEVER popped into my head for the resolution of anything. Even out of curiosity.
Just gonna repeat it. That woman at 11mins in is amazing. It's obv the homeless dude was working hard but just didn't have his life together yet. She showed a lot of empathy in giving him a safe place to chill, and then connecting the dots when he failed to show up for work for the 1st time in 4 years. Edit: also the other locals concerned about him. Damn I'm glad he had nice people around him that appreciated him for who he was.

I felt it when the woman said "he looks rough but he's the nicest old man ever", I know a couple people like that. They're in a pickle and will bless you a million times whenever you help them. You can tell she really cared about him, shit sucks

I was homeless for a few years when I was in my early 20s and this was a constant fear of mine. Some of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met are/were homeless. My heart goes out to this man's friends and family
I couldn’t agree more. I helped whenever I could while others were too worried about what they’d do with the money! That’s not our concern, we should give from our hearts to help-period. I pray you’re out of that situation now and that your life is a good one. God bless

I work at a pharmacy and I find that at least in my area, the more money you have, the worse of a human being you tend to be. Tons of homeless people who are very thankful for everything they get.
i hope everything is better for you now friend. i was also homeless back in 2020 and people seem to forget that we are just like everyone else. i had people spend money they didn’t have to put me in motels (which is obviously a privilege not many have) literally because they were so terrified of me being r*ped and murdered as a 19 year old homeless girl.

Well you have to remember that there are many people with special needs who may show similar personalities. But not all of them are murderers. I think the ones who have genuine red flags are worth monitoring though-- like obsession with hurting, hurting animals ofc, talking abt death, etc

I'm so happy they made that memorial for him. He was so loved. It's sick what Brian did to him, not only did he ruin his own life, he ruined his parents' lives, Warren's friends' lives, and most importantly, Warren's life. I'm upset Brian didn't receive any more professional help despite these red flags before the murder.
