    I love N scale and have been watching you over the years, not consistently and enjoyed this tour. Wish you would have started out with a map. My interest not only in N scale but Conrail is due to my meeting Dick Spence when he was part of the Southern Pacific Railroad. My father was an executive officer with the railroad also. My father headed the communications department as the Assistant General Superintendent of Communications System. Under his time there his department developed a company called SPCC which later became SPRINT. During that time Mr Spence left as Vice President of Operations to go to Conrail. A very smart man. A lot of pressure put on him to turn that line around. Didn't do it quick enough. You've done a great job modeling .

    Great tour of your layout. Some of the places bring back memories of when I was stationed at NAS Lakehurst from 1972-1979. Went to several of the cities you model and both of my daughters were born in Toms River. I enjoyed watching the train run and the history you present. Thanks for sharing your layout with us.

    Great overview, thx for sharing and so nice to see a summary of all you have accomplished so far - congrats and u should feel great about all you've completed (altho unspoken I imagine some credit may be given to wife for supporting you (i.e., allowing you time for) 'playing with trains') 😏. A lot of work showcased here, but a LOT OF FUN of course. Many great structures, but for me that Sunshine facility is just awesome/tops, looks very realistic even with compression! Also love the tallest singular stack at the southernmost (C-G) facility --- a simple item but realistic weathering, I love it. And thx for explanation of the adjacent water tower (would have had to ask about it - good job getting that before it was too late 😊) Also - an absolute beautiful set of late model N scale motor vehicles at 23:30 ! - a DREAM for most modern 1:160 modelers to have!!! Thanks to your videos/work, it's easy for me to keep dreaming/motivated/fired up. Thanks again Joe for sharing and keep up the great work in modern northeastern N scale railroading

      Yes my wife deserves as much credit as me for supporting this layout. When construction began she had no idea that it would grow into what it is. In my defense I told her (hahaha) but she didn't understand. But the unexpected thing that happened is how the layout has become a part of the family, and both of my girls like going in the "train room". Wil they future model railroaders, the verdict is still out on that.

      @@centraljerseyconrailinnsca5676 and ah yes Shapeways thanks--- if only I could afford more than a few at a time!!... but no question i feel like SW (and recently River Point and a few others) offering 'new' late 80's / early 90's vehicles is a blessing. Just hard (expensive) to amass a collection - yours looks great good job and keep it going if you can

    Dear Joe, love the layout tour. Very interesting narration on how you’ve connected the different New Jersey sections of the old Penn and CNJ. Visited Monmouth, Tinton Falls, Lakewood, Long Branch and vicinity during New Years, whilst doing a family visit. Already knew about the Blue Comet, but found some great literature at B&N, at the Monmouth Mall. Also, found another great book on the Rahway Valley. With each visit to NJ, from the Netherlands, I find more interesting subject matter on The Garden State’s history. So many stories to tell on its railroad tracks into the past. Love how you’ve interspersed some of it into the layout story.
    Very cool layout you built, great to see the abundance of roads and tracks. Even though there’s still a lot of green areas in NJ, when one travels, your depiction is definitely an accurate reflection of the populated feel of these areas you model. Cheerio

    Nice layout I worked occasionally at the BASF site in the early mid 80s. I remember a freight would go by from NE corridor past the site daily in th AM I assume it was going to Browns. Live in CA now last time I looked on Google earth the site is gone.

As I watched this I kept thinking back to when you did your first scenery video, almost like you were scared to take that step on the layout, to this tour and all the fantastic scenes you have created. love the fact you do so much research, try to get it as close to real as you can, selective compression sure is our friend.

    • @centraljerseyconrailinnsca5676

      Some the small helix is a circle with a 13" radius curve, the large helix has 14" radius curves with an approximately 12" straight section making it an oval. Grades in both helices are 2% with enough head room for double stack 53' containers. Thanks for watching!

      Good Q - I hope even if joe doesn't yet (say in respect for prototype ops on these lines), he will feel free to proto freelance a F40PH-led detour or excursion train with 3 or 4 amfleets, etc. Would only further help transport us back to the 80's 😊

    • @centraljerseyconrailinnsca5676
      @centraljerseyconrailinnsca5676  Год назад +3

      At this time no. I try to stay true to the prototype. However once I have gotten the fright cars and locomotives that I need, I will experiments with fun stuff! Defiantly some 80's era Amtrak and NJT. I have also toyed with the idea of a couple of steamers to run some throw back trains. Also I have been think about holiday trains (Christmas and Halloween) just to have some fun.
