Another awesome video, in this case showing the ingenuity of an MOC builder. I will be honest, given that this is what Lego do for a business, I expected a better result from them. Well done on beating the big boys at their own game once again. Keep up the great work Sariel.
The thing is we feel, like connect with individual people better than something that we feel came out of a machine. So we think a MOC Is a lot better. If you bought the big yellow technic truck 42099 There is an awesome moc call “ROCKY” and I would highly recommend buying the instructions for that.
@@tjzp Price may be an issue for MOCs, but if similar set was created by Lego at around 10 cents/piece, they usually would be affordable. Unfortunately Ural is probably too "military" for Lego...
@@EvanMoon Some sets by Lego are awesome. Some other sets like this truck on the video are far from that. It is too slow with poor ground clearance and unsatisfactory turning radius. All those MOCs seem to perform much better. Of course we don't know, what would be price of such a set...
Well, it's nice to see lego giving trial trucks a go and at least it could handle most of those obstacles even if it handled them worse than the MOC's. And even they fell over a few times so it's clearly hard going. But it seems they've still got a lot to learn if they're going to make anything that can really keep up.
The Zetros' performance is disappointing but not surprising. That said I do think the set is a decent starting point for building a trial truck. Some relatively minor changes would probably improve its performance quite a bit, even if the base set is already rather expensive as is. I do think seeing a differential lock in a official set is just cool. The designers have to straddle a thin line between form, function and price. MOC designers aren't beholden to these restrictions or at least not to the same extend. I'll probably get the set and try my hand at fixing/improving it. Sounds like a fun project.
Conclusion: Zetros is a fricking joke! It is so slow, has so small ground clerance between wheels, its turning radius is terrible and it flips everywhere. But still better than 6 wheel off road tow truck with pf, that cant eben drive on a gravel.
You have saved me $400, so thank you. I built an Actros 4X4 Expedition using your (brilliant) locking live axle design (front and rear) and am loving it. Cost me absolutely nothing too.
It may be just a coincidence, but the Zetros seems less tumbly. Where the other trucks keep rolling and rolling when they tip over, the Zetros stops and just lies there, or even more impressively, lands back on its wheels. The turning radius is absolutely embarrassing, though. And so is the loose engine cover.
The zetros was also designed to look good, and while it does accomplish this, it means it is extremely front heavy and has a much higher center of gravity, especially compared to its wheel size
Being not familiar with FIAT off-road range, mistaken it for GAZ-66... And was surprized with third axle on profile shot :) But, I think, it's frame is too skinny. Also, my teeth clenched by reflex when 37.5 was tipping on obstacle 3

Zetros set can be found now at 150euros or less (got one at 125euro for the kid For Xmas), For sure it misses 1 axis, XL motors instead of L (lower gear ratio and more speed), bigger Wheels and more ground clearance, to start to be a correct trial truck. Despite the effectiveness of lego technic RCs, we can all agree that the build quality is always solid. It’s quite difficult to take apart some of the technic sets .
No question the MOC designers are superb. But LEGO / TECHNIC seems to focus more on the build experience, rather than performance. They are not an RC, more of a model. The LEGO designers are also limited by constraints of cost / production / marketing / licensing / legal and the need to keep 20,000 people employed.
@@parasbuy7496 I agree, but instead of just looking at high margins they somehow forgot to look at customer needs and playability. At least they could have added one more axle. It wasn’t “too” bad, I think Lego don’t really make them powerful enough. It really does have an awful turning radius, I’ve made 8 wheeled vehicles that turn tighter.
And LEGO states that “the system is plastic, so the system would break down if it’s too powerful”, which solves the reason LEGO adds safety features (like open diffs and clutches), and doesn’t makes them powerful:
We need to remember that the Zetros remains a kid's toy, and that it has to follow all kinds of crazy regulations to enter the production line (as we saw with many ideas sets). Still it remains a mistery why Lego didn't use bigger tyres. This truck looks like somebody who skipped leg day
I wonder if the new Buwizz unit would make the Zetros any better. Because right now, it's just a laughing stock of a Trial Truck. Only thing it has over the mocs is that it's a bit more rugged.
Totally agree, lego should have introduced new shock absorbers that are mid hardness between the hard and soft shocks, it would have made it so much better and would have added so much more value to the set

The only solution found to fixing the stability of the Zetros’s rear axle without a complete rebuild is to lower the ground clearance by 0.5 studs.
