Can't believe what I saw. What an epic game. I watched it twice in a row, posted this comment, went to prepare popcorn before watching it a third time.
Man, that was an epic game. I was thinking Grubs was gonna lose up to 22:50. Why did Tod run? He was slowly and steadily whittling away the base and his army was well replenished. I get he had no gold (he was getting expo), but he could still put up an offense while secretly getting expo. I guess he had no promise that Grubs could scout with wolves while defending (I saw how healthy his army was and thought “there’s no way he doesn’t already have an expo giving him that much gold”), but a fierce enough attack could pressure Grubs enough to put his all into defending the base. It could just be a lapse in judgement, but I wanted possible reasons for that decision.
Yes I agree. I think ToD would’ve won the game just destroying Grubby’s base. Grubby had no armies whatsoever. But ToD decided to play scared & just want to overwhelm enemies without micro cost him the game
Tod was getting out of mana and gold and he thought that its safer to get back and make an expansion and protect it from the wolves and when the expansion stabilize he can go out and finish Grubby. He was afraid that if he stays in front of Grubby's base, both deprived from income, Grubby might find a way to slowly kill Tod's army unit by unit, while hiding in base. So, Tod decided to secure advantage, which was the better call at this moment imo. However, Grubby took a risk and made his hidden expansion simultaneously with Tod's one. Tod did not expect such bold move, because if he catches this attempt, seeing Grubby spending his last gold for Town Hall instead for units, Grubby straight dies there. However, Tod expected expand, but a bit later and he was expecting to snipe it before it pays off.. You will notice how he moved his army top side at some point to kill Grubby's expansion, he saw there is no expansion and probably thought that Grubby is preparing one final attack, so he came back to defend and when Grubby never came, he realized something is off and checked for hidden expansion, but it was already too late. Basically Grubby won with a desperate high risk move (although high risk is not the right word, coz it was his only move which could give him a chance) that Tod did not think of.
@@martinlevi3769 It clearly wasn't the better call as ToD lost, whether you feel like it was or it was not. ToD has a 70 food army, to grubbys 30 at that point, had destroyed almost all of grubbys production buildings, and most crucially had destroyed grubbys shop. Grubby literally had a spirit lodge and a warmill by that point. How would grubby have kept picking off units with no access to clarities or salves??? ToD got cocky and thought he would drag out the game, because of how many times in a row he lost to grubby since this new ladder began. On top of that, saying ToD's army was out of mana is just a blatant lie, because if you just look at his army when he backs at around 22:45, all his casters and his archmage have at least half mana, and on top of that even if they didn't, the entire reason Archmage is the most chosen human hero is this pretty OP ability called brilliance aura, you may have heard of it, it takes away the need for a rifle/caster army to retreat for mana. I shout in my mind, shockwave, shock wave, you will wipe out that weakling army with TC shockwave! Turn out it's most badass combat I ever expect to see with stun skill of TC!
Gotta have stun because rifles do too much damage to let them keep firing. Shockwave does good damage, but stun also deals damage and more importantly, stops the rifles from shooting by stunning or forcing a split and allows focus onto casters. Plus it can be used to catch heros, making it overall better against the rifles while also offering greater versatility against other units.
