the two screws will keep it stable. There was a lot more going on with this Ipod than just the aux port replacement. The owner wanted a larger capacity battery which required me to upgrade the ipod to a thicker rear casing to accommodate the batteries larger size. When moving the existing aux port to the new rear casing i just use it as something to get it at the screw height. It doesn't really stick so if i left it in there it could flop around on the inside. Also the larger battery kind of fits up under the aux port so there wasn't really room for it anyway.

Why remove the pad under the jack socket? Wouldn't it be more stable to leave it in?
