I started using fountain pens just because I wanted to take hand written notes without my hand cramping up (as it does when I use ballpoint pens). I had no idea what I was in for when I ordered my first Pilot Varsity, I thought it was just going to be like any other pen... boy was I wrong! I ended up falling in love with fountain pens and, much to my surprise, I ended up falling in love with writing. Before I knew it I was journaling every single day and finding any excuse I could just to write! I was suddenly able to confront a ton of unresolved things from my childhood/youth through my journals, it's really special and quite profound just how much writing something out can give you a new perspective on things. By way of journaling, I was then re-introduced to cursive which was something I thought I had left behind in elementary school. I'm not sure that there are words to even describe how much fountain pens have impacted my life, but I do know that I'll be holding on to them for the rest of my life. I've been slowly building a pen and ink collection since that first Varsity last year and I'm so excited to see what else ends up it!
It's funny how such a small thing can have such a big impact. I remember begging my mum for a fountain pen when I was 6-7 years old. For whatever reason my mum wasn't happy with my purchase but I wouldn't put it down. Wrote crappy stories, kept a journal & copied newspaper columns with that pen until it suddenly went 'missing'. Wasn't until 2 years ago I bought some Chinese fountain pens. The wing sung 3008 has been my daily writer since then. Want to get a sport just because of the form. I have a few tiny paper mate compact great form factor and the plastic is unique, it's got a little give. Just wish the QC was better but they're very cheap.
Fountain pens have made me realize how much I would spend on disposable ballpoint pens and how they would end up in a landfill. A fountain pen has helped me to improve my penmanship and has given me the opportunity to protect and preserve the analog soul found in each of us because every observation or emotion is translated differently due to a nib size and ink color. I have learned to be more cognizant of my words and it is amazing to realize that people in the fountain pen community are kind and caring. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.
I think my world has greatly expanded during this pandemic because of fountain pens. I’ve learned tons of new knowledge, found new You Tube channels (like yours), and really upped my journaling practice to new heights - pens, nibs, inks, paper. Just WOW!
Fountain pens have gotten me back in to journaling which is so good for my mental health. It makes me slow down and just enjoy the pen, ink, and paper. My time spent watching your videos is so quiet and peaceful. It’s a wonderful reminder to enjoy the little things.
As an artist, I always had a interest for drawing and writing utensils. By the time passes, my interest got narrowed down when I discovered pens. They were practical but felt soulless to me and I discovered fountain pens thanks to your channel and fell love with them immediately. It felt like each of them had their own personality and unique feeling unlike other pens and these concepts gave me the motivation to create and write more. Watching your videos always makes me to pick up my pens no matter how busy or down i feel. Hope you'll never stop creating your content.
Fountain pens have given me a new interest in COLOR. Colors I never imagined I would like are now some of my favorites: orange, brown, purple… even red. And though I have a VERY long way to go, I know fountain pens are improving my penmanship.
I’ve been writing with fountain pens since childhood. My first pen was an old Parker that my uncle gave me. I was in first grade. All of my family members were letter writers. I naturally followed suit. I turn 70 next week and there are three fountain pens on my desk - all inked up and ready to write. Fountain pens didn’t change my life. They’ve been my life. Your channel is a treat to follow!
Actually it was your love of fountain pens that made me make the jump into this lovely rabbit hole. As a lefty, it never even crossed my mind. It and 5 new journals have adjusted my stagnated journal keeping. Thank you for opening up this wonderful world to me. As always, love each of your videos.
At this time in my life, I am 76 years old, I felt I needed to let go of all the anxiety and be grateful for that life just as it is. I discovered journaling and that led to fountain pens as a way to express myself. The feel of putting that pen and ink to paper is peaceful and calming. Every day I use different pens that I have inked up with different inks and just put my thoughts, ideas, and memories to paper. Who knew how many different pens and inks were out there? I only wish I had discovered the occupation sooner in my life. I encourage everyone to take a bit of their day to relax and see the world in a different way. As the saying goes, "Let it all go". Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
My husband bought me my first fountain pen last year. Now both of us are writing everyday, experimenting with different ink. I love the positive impact it's had for both of us. It's changed the way we write. Normal ball point pens just don't do it for us anymore. Fountain pens are amazing and I couldn't live without my small collection now.
I had covid and then long covid from August 2021. I found this channel whilst looking for journalling prompts to help me to process the ways in which life had and was changing. My fountain pen love began!!! I loved the look of the Kaweco sport, purchased one and have been trying to convince everyone I know of the greatness of them too. I found a new hobby and something to keep me inspired to write through the pain and loss of myself and it felt so much more appealing to have a beautiful writing tool with personally chosen ink and wonderful paper than using any old biro I had to hand. I am changed in more ways than one since last August and fountain pens have been one of the better parts of those changes! Thank you for your channel! You will never know how you helped me through some very dark days. X
For me pens are just the natural progression to my love for writing and stationery. They are a symbol of my commitment, from studying to art to learning new languages. I feel like the act of picking a pen, taking good care of it and using it all your life sends a clear message in this hyper consumistic era. I use regular pens from time to time but nothing beats my well loved fountain pens
Fountain pens have opened many doors for me...I have rediscovered my love of letter writing. The ceremony of sitting down at my little writing desk in the late afternoon light with my favourite pens and writing paper, really makes me slow down and reconnect with myself and my daily life. The joy of seeing a hand addressed envelope in the letter box! I have found that the fountain pen community, through channels such as yours, is filled with supportive, kindhearted people. I love hearing other people's stories, experiences and recommendations.
Fountain pens started for me as a distraction from a difficult time in my life - losing my mom and my job/career, and then the scary time at the start of the pandemic. But because of my interest, they led me to back to using paper and journaling, something that I'd done as a teenager but given up on. Journaling and planning has improved my life, my health and my perspective in so many ways that I can't believe that it all started with just a little pen.
Just come across with your channel today! Absolutely loved how you reviewed the nib sizes, and really appreciate the fact that you had to clean out each pen in order to use the same ink. As a science teacher, hats off to you, and can’t wait to watch more videos! ❤
The biggest joy fountain pens have brought me is the community. I have met so many great people who love this hobby as much as I do. Thank you for your contributions and sharing your beautiful perspective.
Thanks for this in depth look at the Kaweco pens. I have four, two plastic, one aluminum, one copper. I’ve enjoyed how well they work and how consistently they put down a line. Fountain pens have changed my life for the better as I moved from a mostly digital world back to an analog one. They are beautiful, practical, and bring me joy. And that is a lot.
Hi! Thank you for your lovely videos. You inspire me so. The fountain pen is a tactile, anti-screen-time, antique tool that transports me back to a simpler time. Re-discovering fountain pens over the last 6 months has connected me to a generation or two behind me with my mother or other elder folks commenting on my pen choice. "I remember using these in school...I'm surprised they're still around". They're around and we are obsessed! Thanks again for your peaceful videos. Take care, everyone.
I have just discovered the world/joy of fountain pens within the last year, and it’s inspired my creativity and brought me so much joy. Thank you for the work you do on your RUclips channel! I have enjoyed it so much!
I started writing with fountain pen about a year ago. It calm me down and sometimes bring me to another world when i drawn into the words and thoughts that flows trough the nib. Guess what, sometimes nibs talk and tell a story too. A huge plus is the wonderful community. Thank you for another great video
Thank you for the comparison! Fountain pens have always been an interest of mine, but they became a real serious passion during the pandemic lockdown when they helped me detox from my digital lifestyle and get back into journaling, for my own self care, in a way that’s tactile and cathartic. I also discovered for the first time the entire community of hobbyists that shared this excitement, which in and of itself was a wonderful discovery!
I'm an old man, 85. When I started school I used a dip and write steel nib in a wooden holder and Schaffer ink with the well in the neck. I've been Journaling since 1998. I've used wooden pencils, mechanical pencils, ball points - stick pens, retracts, and fountain pen look-alikes. Two years ago I bought a $12 fountain, then a glass pen and then a $70 Wordsworth-Black that looses its prime and I use as a dip and write. :-( My favorite ink is Noodler'sApache Gold. I had to learn to cursive all over again. I follow you because of your creative journals. :-)
My handwriting in grade school was almost illegible. My Mom got me a Parker pen before I started seventh grade. My Mother and I are both left handed and her handwriting was so beautiful and expressive . She would help me with the writing portion of my homework. It helped but never enough to come close to hers. We both wrote straight up, no hook. The one thing I enjoy most about writing with a fountain pen is the feeling of “time distortion “ that I feel when using one. My focus is on the page as my mind thinks about the things that I want to write. The ambient noise seems to fade away and am truly alone with my thoughts and my self. Thank youfor the give away and your channel.
My fountain pens have given me a reason (and in some cases a ready excuse) to spend time in my notebooks and to be more committed to my journals. I relish the chance to fill out a mundane form, or to make a list. And the pen I bought to get back into fountain pens about a year ago was a gift to myself as a gesture of self-care at a time when all my energies were focused on my mother in her final few weeks. It was a perfect way to quietly remind myself that I mattered too without taking any attention away from the more pressing needs around me. Thanks for the wonderful insights into the Kaweco world. They are lucky to have you as an ambassador. ;)
Awww this is so kind of you! I've always been a writer - a journaler, a planner, and fountain pens really enhanced the writing experience itself, it brought even more mindfulness into the process - I especially love to see the ink going down wet and shiny and then dry. Sending love still from Budapest, Hungary
Hi my Tucson friend! I love reading all these comments from pen and journal lovers and knowing you brought them (us) all together. I began playing with fountain pens in the early '70s, when you could buy a Sheaffer for under two bucks -- but being left-handed, I didn't have much luck! Then 2 or 3 years later I bought a Cross fine point and managed to wrestle it into submission for my college years. I have since moved on to many others (current collection numbers 46). Curious that married to a retired Navy officer and being a SAR pilot, my two favorite pens are a Sailor and a Pilot, extra fine nibs both. But I also own four Kawecos that get their fair share of journal work. Thank you for sharing your life and world with all of us!
Great review. Watching what people are doing with fountain pens made me take the leap into this wonderful tool. I’m writing everyday now and learning how to incorporate their use into art. This might sound like something small to most, for me it’s huge to have something that makes me excited about doing things with color. Your contribution to this community is part of what keeps us going forward, thank you.
Submerging myself into the world of fountain pens really helped me through some difficult times. They are so beautiful, individual (even if you got the same model with the same nib twice), you can get so much variety through inks, etc. The filling mechanisms are also just lovely details. I love how fountain pen lovers can really enjoy such a small item to the fullest! And I also found your videos through fountain pens, they are so calming and listening to your mindset is so freeing!
I had a rough time when I discovered fountain pens, almost three or four years ago. I never cared for ballpoint pens or rollerballs, but with fountain pens I could write about my bad experiences and losses in a therapeutic way. It really helped me and I am glad for the awesome community around these fantastic tools! Thank you for your videos, I love them 😊
Fountain pens have helped me journal more consistently, which in turn has helped me slow down and appreciate and process events in my life. They've also just been a beautiful tool that I get to use and play with everyday. I really appreciate and look forward to watching your channel/videos and the thoughtfulness you share with the rest of the community!
I have rediscovered my passion for writing with your wonderful videos and love of fountain pens. Quite frankly, the serenity of a fountain pen to paper is so much different than a regular pen. The craft is kinesthetic, artistic, and peaceful. The strokes of a fountain pen are like an artist paint brush. I feel that life slows down a bit when using them. Through your love of them, I have found some Bliss in these crazy times. Kaweco Brass sport is my most treasured pen. Thank you!
I've been a calligrapher, journaler, and writer for nearly 40 years, but I only discovered fountain pens about 7 years ago. Fountain pens opened up calligraphy for me by giving me portable, precise tools and so much enjoyment in improving my skills. They opened up my journaling and writing by making it easier physically for me to write and giving me options for pens, nibs, and inks. I even learned a different handwriting style by practicing every day for a year so it became second nature. Fountain pens have deeply enriched my life, and the supportive fountain pen community has been an added bonus, especially in the last two years. Thank you to you and Kaweco for this enjoyable video series and for this giveaway.
I got into fountain pens because I wanted to play with ink colors in my journaling - I had no idea how much this would add to my life! There is so much joy, fun, and tactile satisfaction with using fountain pens. It is a connection to a very simple pleasure that is low-tech yet completely immersive. I find myself looking for new ways to write just to use my pens. I have no one in my local life that understands this interest, let alone has ever used a fountain pen, so finding a channel like yours is so refreshing and I love watching your videos!
Fountain pens helped bring me back to regular journaling after a long, long hiatus and I’m so grateful. It’s been almost a year now, and it’s hard to picture my day without it.
It's hard to believe how therapeutic it is writing with a fountain pen 🖋 fancy or not. I have also found it makes me want to write thoughtfully for myself and others. Thank you for adding peacefulness to the 🌎.
Fountain pens have brought me so much joy, friendships ,incredible conversations even with strangers:) The want and ability to write lovely notes or letters to people who could use an encouraging thought or two. I had been very isolated for years dealing with cancer and many surgeries…Fountain pens and people in the fountain pen world are in many parts of my daily life now. Even my 92-year-old mother enjoys my fountain pens:) and watching you has brought me back to journaling. Fountain pens journaling getting hold of other fountain pen friends is an every day joy I have now.
I jumped down the fountain pen rabbit hole in 2020 and have not looked back. Using a fountain allows me to relax my grip and truly enjoy the tactile experience of putting pen to paper. I love experimenting with different inks and have now acquired close to 12 pens ranging from my first ( a Lamy Safari) to a gorgeous premium Sailor with a 21k nib. I have 3 Kaweco AL Sports (vibrant violet, brown, red AC) and love them all. My confidence has grown as I've learned to disassemble my TWSBY ECO RG, and experience the various nibs of the Draco and most recently an Opus 88 eye dropper model to name a few. And for laughs the chunky Moon man found its way to me. What a wonderful experience and all at the ripe young age of 68 during a global pandemic. Love your channel.
I've just discovered fountain pens a few months ago and it has totally changed my entire view on journaling. I always struggled to journey regularly before until I've started entering the world of fountain pens! Now I journal twice a day or even three times daily every single day. Fountain pens have opened a whole new world of journaling for me, and I've discovered a community with like-minded people and I enjoy and look forward to journaling every day. It's been my safe place for the last tough couple of months. A place I can fully express myself. Discovering your channel has been awesome! Love all your recommendation.
Fountain pens were really becoming a hobby of mine while I had so much free time in quarantine. Now they encourage me to get working on my schoolwork. They also grew my passion for journaling. I simply love the physical act of writing with my pens, especially with so much of my time as a student being in front of my computer screen!
I recently discovered the joy of fountain pens last September (I started with Pilot Kakuno) and I tried them enough to gift myself my very first Kaweco on my birthday in December. I used to never gave fountain pen a second look (I collected gel pens though), but it is true, you HAVE to try them first and see how they change your life (in writing). Then I discovered more channels that makes podcasts about pens. Penss??? Literally over an hour long discussion about pens?? I used to laugh at them but now I schedule them in my planners - using my fountain pen of course. I love my fountain pens, they make me want to write more. Sometimes I just hold them, uncap them, and itching to write something. (Btw, I purchased the spare double broad nib for my Kaweco, I LOVE IT! definitely not something for everyday writing, but it makes a beautiful nib for headers and titles)
I just want to thank you for inspiring me to write and attempt processing everything I’ve pushed to the side for so many years. I purchased a Brown Scout Chic Sparrow and a Leuchtturm a couple weeks back. Day one I couldn’t get much out and the past two weeks I’ve written around 70 pages. It’s actively changing my frame of mind and quality of life and finding your channel on RUclips has changed and will continue to change my life and help me grow as a person. Thank you for the rambling and journal videos you do. I guarantee you’re helping thousands of other people and that’s invaluable. Also thank you for getting me into fountain pens because I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and might break the bank account, haha. All jokes aside I’ve found something that will most likely stick with me forever and thank you for giving that to me. Writing with my Pilot Custom 823 and Brass Kaweco has inspired me to write and change my life in ways that are indescribable. Thank you for being you.
I discovered fountain pens during 2020. It was through your videos, and I think it has helped me weather these last few years sanely! My journaling practice flourished and I’ve recently incorporated the use of fountain pens into my art practice as well. Fountain pens have made me a better communicator. With myself, through journaling, and with others, through letter writing and my art. It may seem silly, but I’m so thankful to have found this “hobby” and the welcoming community within it!
I've been in the stationery community for quite some time, but nothing has made me love writing more than your mindful and carefully created videos. It's because of your videos and your hard work that has made me so excited to use fountain pens. To sit ever present in my world and note down my inspirations. Thank you for always making such enjoyable content
Fountain pens give me a sense of connection. Connection to simpler and more thoughtful times. I’m so grateful for the joy and peace I experience writing with fountain pens in my journals.
Fountain pens have made the act of writing so much more fun for me again. They’ve reignited my love for journaling in a new way - a way that’s more about nurturing my mental health than about making something that looks nice. Just writing, when it’s with a pen and an ink I love, can warm my heart and soothe my soul, and I think that’s amazing. Especially during a time when I haven’t been able to see people I love or go places that make me smile, making the things I can do from home feel more special has been important to me and fountain pens do that - they make writing and journaling feel more special.
I was really looking forward to this review and it did not disappoint! I didn’t even know that Kaweco did a premium nib until you got your box from them. I LOVE how easy it is to change the nibs on these pens (really, I have a huge crush on Kaweco...) Collecting fountain pens is a hobby that I have fallen in love with during the pandemic. I started out with a Lamy Safari 2 years ago and now I have about 20 pens that range from $10 Cross pens to much pricier Pelikans. I love them all. I am a lifelong journaler and notebook addict but fountain pens bring me immeasurable joy. I like to write with them, clean them, doodle and putter with them - I can’t imagine life without them. In a time of enormous suffering and loss across the world, I have written more in this period than in any other of my life. I don’t know that it would have been the same as if I were using the gel pens I used to buy by the box. All of that writing has helped me process all that has happened in the last 24 months. I really think they have changed my life for the better and I am grateful for that.
I have recently been addicted to your videos. I have used fairly cheaper fountain pens over the years and your videos revitalized my love for writing and desire for nicer fountain pens. Thank you.
I wanted to start journaling and using a fountain pen with fun inks has made the habit so much more enjoyable rather than a task that must be endured. Thank you so much for your videos. I'm glad I found your page.
Fountain pens have changed my writing habits completely. I used to do some journaling every now and then, but since I got into fountain pens, I've been writing daily, I've finished quite a few notebooks in the past year! Getting into the habit of writing daily has helped me be more mindful during these difficult times. I can think of many situations when I was feeling overwhelmed by different emotions, and picking up a pen to write about it has given me perspective and has helped ground me immensely. Writing is now a part of my self-care. I love fountain pens so much because of that. And also, it's such a fun hobby to have these days. Enjoying pens and nice colours gives me some positivity during these times. Thanks for all your wonderful content!
Actually, I found your comparisons very helpful in this review. They reinforced my sense that how a nib writes after "writing months" of use matters so much more than my initial impressions. You did everything right! Including writing with two at once!!! And, both were fine. So, now, I'm revisiting pens after months or years, and enjoying new relationships. Thanks for your review! (Also, I have to admit that Ancient Copper is that first love to which I compare everything else.)
Writing in general has always been a way for me to clarify my thoughts, and get things organized so to speak. Page after page I've felt more in control of the way I think, and feel. While Fountain pens started out as just a tool for writing they've slowly turned into memories of times, places, people, and experiences all at the tip of my fingers. It's also an appreciation of something small, and at times forgettable, but extremely important. A piece of history that showed mankind's want to record and share information. Whether for Education, History, or most importantly Communication, we would not be where we are today with out them. So while many people see just a pen, I see a wonderful work of art, made to help us better ourselves, and each other.
I found fountain pens and your channel at the beginning of 2020. My son was a newborn, and I wanted a way to beautifully document his new life, and my new life as a Mom. It. Has actually given me so much more creative leeway in my journaling, and has made the archiving experience so much more meaningful!
Since I started using fountain pens just four short years ago, they have completely transformed my relationship to writing; my ability to just write whatever, wherever, and to feel a love while doing it. I love writing now more than ever, and they have taught me how to love the tools that go into writing as much as the writing itself. They also have opened me to a whole community of people who are all connected by this love, and it has been such a kind, open, and welcoming community that I would never have found had I not started using these pens. Lastly, fountain pens introduced to me a new connectivity to my art. When I draw with fountain pen, it disciplines me to think of every stroke I lay down, and requires me to let go when a stroke inevitably goes awry. I have found nothing but a richness to my life wherever I go with fountain pens. Alicia, I have only just discovered your channel, but I really have plunged much deeper into the art of journaling and the love of fountain pens and paper because of your inspiring videos. So, thank you~☆
Hi Alicia, Your channel and a dear friend of mine, inspired me to try fountain pens. I now have several vintage pens and a bunch of newer ones. Last year, I learned how to replace the ink sacks on vintage pens and would find time to tinker with these old pens. I found that helped me escape from from the stresses of caring for my 80 year old mother who has Parkinson’s. I also love writing letters, journalling, practicing my penmanship and trying new inks.
The idea of turning off or getting away from the computer that I was working on for many hours a day really excited me. From that I started writing in a note book notes that are alway mine and purposefully not easy to share. While using note books I found myself wanting to use coloured inks and also wanting a more meaningful pen that was mine and not a common ballpoint pen. The elegance of the fountain pen was my choice and this came from wanting to get away from printing and wanting to write again. Channels like yours, that help re-centre, have made me very appreciative of the time you put in to your digital art that is your RUclips channel. Thank you and keep doing your thing. By the way your writing table has inspired me to make one (of my own design) for my daughter. Again thanks for sharing.
I started using fountain pens to just experience it. Once I started using my first one and learn more about it, I love that they are sustainable, and the variety of inks that are available to use to express myself. Thank you for sharing your videos of Kaweco!
Ever since I started to learn to write in elementary school, I have owned a fountain pen. It was mandatory to write with it up to 5th grade. And even after that (yes even in high school) I had a fountain pen. I just always loved the sound the pen makes while writing with it. And the smoothness compared to failing ballpoint pens, back in the day there were no gel pens, helps me write neater too. And I love to switch out different color inks. The whole combination of crinkly paper and a smooth fountain pen can give me tingles. I hope I never stop using fountain pens. Thank you for sharing your love of fountain pens with us!
I love all things old fashioned, so when I tired using a fountain pen for the first time, I knew there was no going back. I used to hate writing but using a pen that writes effortlessly and is high quality actuat makes writing fun.
At first, I started to learn about penmanship. i struggle with my ADHD because of my constant lack of interest. But when I saw your video about fountain pen, I've never look back. I learn to use fountain pen, I bought Kaweco Brass and I love it. Just as you have said before, take the leap and you'll never dissapoint. Yes. I'm glad I found you and I glad I took the leap. Now I'm experimenting with inks. Just so i can find that 'one' that I will use forever with my Brass. And my next catch would be Sailor Pro Mini Gear. Maybe. Thanks Alicia. You saved my life. Thank you for sharing your love of fountain pen with us.
Thanks again for sharing. Fountain pens have always been a part of my life… I have used them since I was a kid in elementary school. However, during the last 2 years of working from home because of the pandemic, I have had the opportunity to dive deeper into the subject and yes… fell head-first into the rabbit hole… :) Kaweco pens are a big part of my collection and I really enjoy writing with all of them. I love all the nib sizes and playing around with inks is another fun factor of this hobby. :)
Fountain pens have truly made my writing and journaling experience more enjoyable. I love the nostalgic feel of using one, and I truly love the way a nice fountain pen glides across the paper. So much character and charm.
I have never bought a Kaweco, but their support for a super cool small RUclips channel has suddenly made me interested in their pens.... I use fountain pens to connect more deeply with complicated prose or poetry. My mind can't work much more quickly than my hand can write with a fountain pen, so taking notes and transcribing texts really helps me comprehend and remember everything I read. Your channel is awesome. Thank you for everything you share with us.
Fountain pens opened up the door to so many new friendships and inspiration. For me, as a creator, loving my materials is a big driver to using them, and even though I’m not a writer, the use of fountain pens and inks has made me more prone to writing, which has sparked more creativity and it has in that regard impacted my work. I absolutely love sharing with friends about this passion of mine and to sharing the joy and playfulness fountain pens and paper provide. It’s such a window of opportunity for those who are adventurous enough to try :) this Chanel has been a massive inspiration, and you I see as a like hearted friend. I love this community and am excited to see more from you and everyone who loves sharing this great hobby ♥️ .
My love of fountain pens began when I discovered the Fountain Pen Network on line several years ago. The community inspired conversation about fountain pens was so authentic and supportive at that time. I am grateful for that inspiration.
Writing with a fountain pen is firstly a way to discover channels and videos like yours! And it allows me to be calm, find peace, find myself in a certain way. Thanks for your great work!
Fountain pens have helped me to slow down and get my thoughts on paper. I use my evening journaling routine with my fountain pen to recount all the good things that have happened that day-even on my worst days! A fountain pen elevates this experience! Thanks for sharing your content!
For me, the fountain pen is a part of my life. More than a simple object. As I write, I enjoy the ink gliding on the paper. I like to look at the shiny imprint that the pen leaves behind. There is "life" in the fountain pen. I can never describe two identical lines. I also feel my mood in my writing. I love your channel because I feel like we’re cousins - even though I’m much older. And it feels good! I love your independence and that you think the same way I do. I learn a lot and get a lot of answers from your videos. They give me confirmation. Kaweco pens have been brought to my attention by your videos! Since then, I also have two of them and I really like them. I see people who love fountain pens being a special community that I am a proud member of! And I'm glad I found your channel too! 💕
Just last week, I have been thinking about if whether i am going to collect kaweco fountain pens or not. As they are more of the affordable and durable pens to collect. I have just been into fountain pens in the last couple of months and have been really enjoying it. It once again made me realize how good it is to just transfer your thoughts into words thru a good pen and paper. I have just been researching on what nib sizes i like with this pen. My EF seems to be too thin for most inks' so im probably going with a few medium nibs with Kaweco first. Then this video suddenly came and i think it's a sign. Yep, i think it is. Even if i dont win or anything. 😊
I think Fountain pens have made me more mindful when writing. Sometimes when expressing my emotions through writing I tend to do it quickly without being aware of what I'm actually doing until I'm done. Choosing a pen, inking it, testing it and feeling the weight of it makes me appreciate the whole process. It's definitely changed the way I write and it's made me be more aware of the things I write.
Excellent review! Thank you 😊 My love for fountain pens - especially Kaweco - inspires me to spend time daily journaling my thoughts and devotions. It is such a pleasurable tactile experience to write with a fountain pen on quality paper. I love reading actual books and taking notes with my fountain pens as well. I appreciate all the advice and experiences you share on your channel!
Hello, Alicia…. Have been journaling for most of my life, but it wasn’t until I started using fountain pens that it became special. You are the one who ignited my fascination with them & now they are all that I use. Have never tried Kaweco, I wonder what smaller pens are like.
Fountain pens have helped me stay connected during the last two years. I started writing letters again and journaling for the first time. The journaling helped keep me sane and gave me a creative outlet.
I started using fountain pens while in high school. I loved them then and really love them now, started a small collection and seems I’m really drawn to Kaweco. Really hate to tell you my age but I was in high school in the sixties. Love writing notes to people and letters to my pen pals. Also journal and would love to use one on yours. Your videos are so entertaining and I’m learning so much from you. Your furry family is so cute, they are very fortunate to have you as their mom. Thank you for sharing everything with your followers.
I love fountain pens. I love the ritual of writing morning pages and journaling to document the days. But also love the ritual of taking the time to clean and re-ink my pens. There is something that i really appreciate about this. It forces me to slow down and really pay attention to the little things. I love it.
I followed your lead and splashed out on the brass Sport Kaweco pen and I love it! Writing with that pen makes the physical act of writing part of the story somehow and enriches the whole experience. I so enjoy all your videos thank you for putting in the effort to post such interesting content 😊
I have always been a stationery lover, however, fountain pens changed my world by making me re-engage with it. As people often do, I had a particularly low point in my life. I was a single parent, finishing a journalism degree, and working full time. I had lost myself in the things I was doing to survive and hadn't stopped to enjoy the things that I loved in a long while. I fell into fountain pens and realized that it wasn't just another piece of stationary but that it was a whole community. Some people purchase the pens as art, others buy them as antiques, and some as writers but this mix of people created a conversation that I felt compelled to be a part of. I appreciate your channel and how it adds to that conversation greatly. Some day's responding to videos and reading comments are my only recreational adult conversations and I am okay with that because it encompasses something I enjoy. Thanks for the conversation!
I started journaling because I bought a fountain pen, which has done wonders for my mental health and personal growth. Thank you for all of your fantastic videos!
Fountain pens have made me appreciate writing and journaling. They have also helped me slow down the act of writing. I used to rush to get my thoughts on paper, but with a fountain pen, the sound of the nib on the paper and seeing the ink flow on the page have calmed my writing and I am able to do more mindful journaling. It has also been really fun to play with different colors of inks, papers, and nib sizes. Fountain pens have become a dear hobby to me and they make me smile during difficult times. Thank you ❤
Fountain pens have made me more persistent in my note-taking, which helps me to focus. In more recent times, it has also led to having some amazing pen pals, to keeping a journal in addition to my planner, and also sketching in ink. They have also had an impact on my wallet 😆
Fountain pens have always been a love of mine. I journaled a lot in the 80’s during my teen years. Then things kind of went digital and I jumped on that train and kept digital journals throughout my life but never lost the love for putting pen to paper. There is something so raw about taking the time to really think about what you are writing and the pen and ink touching the paper, the beauty in the hand written word. I have always had a genuine love for lettering and writing and a fountain pen makes that so much more of an enjoyable experience.
I always liked to take notes and write by hand in different contexts. Taking notes in courses, writing down work meetings, writing ideas, solving equations, doing doodles... And when fountain pens came into my life, all of these experiences enhanced in so many ways, and I am happy to use them for these uses and other that came later, like calligraphy and journaling. Thank you for the giveaway, I love Kawecos. And I also want to thank you for all the love and care in your videos.
Thank you for another great video! Fountain pens really have changed my life in more ways than one. I have really gotten back into journaling and exploring the world through my writing. And had encouraged me to do more every day. 🖋 Thank you again for another great video.
Wonderful video! While I haven’t had the pleasure of owning a Kaweco fountain pen, I’ve owned others over the years. It was my Mom who first introduced me to the sophisticated joys of writing with fountain pen. To this day, a fountain pen has the power to transport me back to the golden age of my mother’s youth in the 1940s & 50s, enabling me to remain connected to her, though she has left us now. Does this improve my writing? I can’t say. But it certainly can’t hurt! Thank you for always inspiring us with your superb content.
Writing with a fountain pen is akin to writing with a living organism. Each are similar but different! even apparently identical nibs from the same manufacturer are often different so again your individuality and that of the pen can shine. Choosing the Ink for a pen or for someone to recieve also is part of that living experience. Thanks Alicia.
Fountain pens brought a a love of journaling and letter writing into my life, and introduced me to an amazing community. Thanks so much for your videos! I really enjoy them. :)
I’m so excited for this giveaway! I’ve always loved to write over the years and have enjoyed using and collecting pens since elementary school. It wasn’t until January 2021 that I decided to take a chance at trying out a fountain pen (which was a Kaweco sport!). As a leftie I wasn’t sure it was possible for me to use them, but after some adjustment of my writing grip I found the experience to be so much better than a regular gel pen. For me there is nothing quiet like watching the ink dry, slowly writing down your thoughts and feeling connected to a different time period. There is an intentionality you don’t get with modern pens, when you slowly put each word down on the page. I feel connected to poets and authors of a bygone era and feel a kinship to them as they ponder life’s mysteries.
This is so nice of you to do! I get more joy out of the people I know who have bought fountain pens because they liked mine, and seeing one of my young nieces put her damn phone down for a while and do some writing and drawing with the few starter pens I’ve given her. I thought it might be a phase in the beginning, but I found her a fountain pen pal in Eastern Europe and she has stuck with it, and has so much fun writing back and forth….they send each other little gifts and mementoes, the kinds of things exclusive to their own countries, and they share things about the two very different cultures they live in. Too many kids are only communicating through their phones today, so to see her excitement when a letter arrives in the mailbox!…I just love it. Wouldn’t it be nice if this became a lifelong friendship? I would probably give this pen to her, as her first nicer pen, to encourage her to keep writing.
I have always had a love of pens. But , since I started using fountain pens in the last 10 years I have really appreciated the art and science of writing. I’m a scientist and I am able to experiment using different nibs (steel or gold, fine or broad, etc). Using different inks provides a bit of expression (and art) to my writing. I’ve acquired my father’s fountain pens (vintage Parker and Schaefer) but I’ve also purchased quite a few new fountain pens. It’s just fun and there is a great community of fountain pen users! Thanks for creating such great videos!
As a longtime crafter, I have always appreciated fine tools. If something is worthy of our time, it’s also worthy of lovely and functional tools with which to complete our tasks. And a fountain pen is no different. For me it makes something as mundane as a grocery list, a thoughtful experience. Our days, especially the last couple of years, have been filled with more everyday experiences than exciting journeys, and it’s just another way to give honor and appreciation to common moments, and be still and notice the value in them.
Very helpful comparison, thank you! Fountain pens, to me, are a tool that enhances the ritual of writing. A slowing down of the hand and mind. They’re less wasteful. There’s a ritual to them; cleaning, filling, maintaining. I love the pace they offer in all aspects.
Writing journal with fountain pen during my relaxing time makes me happy. Testing pens, nibs, inks and paper and it's combination is an exciting journey. Watching ink, pen and nib reviews, help me a lot for getting the pen, ink and paper that I like the most. Thanks for sharing and the giveaway!
Actually I just got into fountain pens a year ago. To me the greatest thing has been the community of great people that I would never have gotten to know without this shared interest. Some, like yourself, I've followed and enjoyed getting to know. Others I have actually created a relationship with. So, thank you for sharing and being engaging and for letting us get to know you.
I've tried to take journaling seriously for a long time, but have never managed to write consistently in a journal, let alone finish one in my 28 years on this earth. However, there's something about fountain pens that has solidified an inspiration in my soul to write my thoughts on paper. Maybe it's the fact that I'm older, or that I'm a mom of two and am able to give myself more grace now, but filling a stalogy journal up using my fountain pen seems more achievable now than it ever has in my life. Maybe I want to documents some thoughts for my children, or maybe I just have more to say now than I did when I was younger. Alicia, you've also been a huge inspiration to journal too! I've really taken your advice on writing and your presence to heart! Thank you for being so wonderful and for do this giveaway for all of us!
Thank you for this video. It was great just seeing the adjustments to how you write with each nib size. Regarding fountain pens, I have my niece to thank for my nosedive into the hobby. She pointed out how they were better for the environment but I never imagined that I would fall in love. I draw, write my inky thoughts, take notes on customer calls at work, and I am going to try writing a book for the very first time ever. Using fountain pens, oddly enough, has taken me out of my screens and into the present. It leaves me with an outlet of expression that I never thought I needed. Oh, and I returned the favor and gifted my niece, the biologist (who I am convinced will save the world), with a Kaweco fountain pen and pencil. The latter was recommended to use out in the field.
Alicia, thank you for this Kaweco series (I'm so glad you partnered with them!!!)! As for my love for fountain pens... Well, it all started when I learned how to write. I was given a Lamy pen (the one for kids) and learned cursive from day one. It never left me since that day. It was definitely love at first sight: the weight of the nib on the paper, my fascination for the tines delivering the ink smoothly and more importantly, it gave me the thirst to write. I truly think that without fountain pens I would have been less inclined to write. So that's the beauty of it: am I writing with a fountain pen or 'for' a fountain pen? I cannot say, but it is always a cherished moment. So in the end? I am so grateful for fountain pens, ink and paper and my parents for giving me this wonderful tool which is a sort of an extension of my hand, a best friend encouraging me to put my thoughts onto a paper.
I was at a tipping point with my physical and mental health during the height of the pandemic. I discovered fountain pens at that time and it helped me slow down and realize how many blessings I had in my life. I'm able to take more time and reflect on small nuances that I never saw before. And for the first time in decades, I'm writing daily. It is a catharsis.
That’s so good that you found that relief. I share your sense of catharsis that came from getting back to basics and count the blessings even as the world spins in chaos.
I started with fountain pens when my grandfather gifted me a "conway stewart 75" that he won in a golfing competition when he was younger (I was about 15). It's definitely the best gift I've ever recieved because I started writing journals and short stories just as an excuse to use it really. I had an expensive pen so I felt obliged to write a lot with it. I can't put into words the effect that writing has had on my life, particularly journaling. It's become so ingrained in me from such a young age that it's hard to excise the elements of my peraonality or outlook that would be different without it. All I know is that it's certainly made a difference for the better, and it's all thanks to this funny little hobby! Thanks for all the videos by the way, they really do brighten my week!
And the giveaway winner is…
TECHNORPTOR777!
Thank you soo much 😆
I started using fountain pens just because I wanted to take hand written notes without my hand cramping up (as it does when I use ballpoint pens).
Same! I tried one just to say I did… now I have a nice pen assortment with some cool inks!
My favorite ink is Noodler'sApache Gold.
I had to learn to cursive all over again.
I follow you because of your creative journals. :-)
Thank you so much for sharing your long history with writing. And thank you for taking the time to watch and comment as well!
I LOVE how easy it is to change the nibs on these pens (really, I have a huge crush on Kaweco...)
Collecting fountain pens is a hobby that I have fallen in love with during the pandemic.
💕
The thumbnail alone brought me here, I love Diamine’s Ancient Copper 😍 Great 👍🏽 video!
Oh, I love this so much! What a beautiful way to reflect and heal the self
Fountain pens and inks have brought me back to journaling which has, in fact, saved my life. Writing has brought back my mental health and so much joy
