    I agree, the Perkeo is often overlooked as a great pen at a very affordable price. It's a durable, inexpensive pen that keeps its cap on when rolling around in my purse, starts every time even when I haven't used it in weeks. I have several of these pens. My favorite is the demonstrator, it even has a clear feed so you can see the ink in it. Thanks for recognizing an underappreciated pen. Great video.

    The Perkeo also has the benefit that you can change the rotation of the nib relative to the grip, so if you find the imposed grip you can just adjust it to however it suits you.

    Perkeo (with fine nib) is my first fountain pen after 15 years break, and after 6 months of writing almost every day I must say I really like it! Grip section helps me hold it comfortably, the pen is really light, writes pretty smoothly, it's not too dry - I'd say it's (almost) perfect as a beginner fountain pen. But my hands are so small that when I hold it, it looks almost 2 times bigger than yours :D

    I love my little transparent perkeo. The plastic feels so much tougher than say a preppy or kakuno and that little stop they built in to keep you from over tightening it was a surprise t ome as well.

    My Kawecos consist of a Dia2,an Original (with larger nib) and two Perkeos. After years of deciding I didn't like the Sport I now have one incoming;and it has a BB nib.
    Talk about overlooked;,the Kaweco Dia2 is one of my all-time favorite fountain pens. It does cost a lot more than a Perkeo;not comparing them. Dia2 is like 3/4-size pen,with a considerable vintage vibe and somewhat precious-looking resin that I really like.

    Excellent review. I love Kaweco, and had thought the Student was the overlooked gem of their line, but at $18 from US sellers the Perkeo looks like a Metropolitan killer. Definitely will be adding one to the next order when I'm padding for the shipping minimum!

  • @sstorholm
    @sstorholm 3 месяца назад

    Small correction, the part of the threads where all turns of the thread are ground down aren’t higbee cuts, but rather a clearance cut to give the parting line somewhere to go, that way they can mould the threads without the parting line messing up the threads. They do however seem to have done something akin to a higbee cut at the start of the thread.

    The Pilot Petit1 is another often-overlooked fountain pen. I actually bought one when I purchased the Kaweco Perkeo to pad my order for free shipping. The Petit1 reminds me of a Pilot Varsity. It's always ready to write, just like the Varsity. I just wrote with the Petit1 for the first time in a month, and it wrote as soon as its nib touched the paper. It's quite tiny, but very usable when posted. The only drawback (for me) would be the Petit1-specific refills. I suppose the empties can be refilled by syringe, though!

    I know Kawecos are popular and the Sports have a bit of a cult following, but I still feel like they're notably underrated. They're reliable, durable, have a more pleasant writing experience than many more expensive pens I have, can be tossed in a bag or pocket, run a surprisingly long time on a small supply of ink, seem to clean out quicker and easier than other pens, and can be disassembled and reassembled pretty easily for more thorough cleaning.
    I have two Sports and one did arrive with an over-polished nib that had to be reshaped to fix, but it works great now, and the other is a wonderful writer. If the Safari I bought in 2008 were as good as these Kawecos, I'd have gotten more enthusiastically into fountain pens sooner than I did. They also work much better than the Studio I got more recently, at a quarter the price. I haven't tried a Perkeo yet, but I've been meaning to eventually, because if they're as good as the Sport I'm not sure what could be better for their price.

    I really liked those pastel colors, and I'm no kid. With the body all one color (unlike now) and the cap a different color, you could switch up the caps and get some interesting combinations. The pen itself is great for introducing people to fountain pens (kids and other people) because it's cheap but reliable and a no-brainer to use. I also liked it better than the otherwise-excellent Kakuno, because the Kakuno cap rubs me wrong when it's posted (and it's too short for me to use comfortably without posting).

    As much as I love their looks, especially the Perkeo ( they are super overlooked!), but goddamn Kawecos don't have any ink capacity. Their converters are just comically small. It makes me wonder because my Pilot e95s is truly a wonderous and petite pocket pen, yet it still holds a full-sized cartridge. I'd use it for work, and keep a pack of cartridges on standby in my desk. So it'll either be a designated black ink or a blue ink pen.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  Год назад +3

      The mini converter on the sport is tiny. But this one (Perkeo) takes a standard international converter. So this pen as the same ink capacity as any other cartridge/converter pen

    I have noticed fountain pen geeks tend to have poor, childish, penmanship skills. What could possibly foster attraction to collecting and gloating over tools that cannot be employed with any reasonable level of control.
    What possible reason could there be for such behaviour?
