  • We are installing a relatively cheap insulated vinyl floor into the van. So exciting! Van Floor!
    We have been waiting a long time for this step and we finally did it! We got the majority of the supplies from Lowes, they have an awesome pick up system.
    Products we used:
    Foam Underlayment (we used it on the gaps): amzn.to/3rkitbY
    Folding Sawhorses (Actually $50, not $30) : amzn.to/3uXfZT6
    Sound deadening (Used in the front cab): amzn.to/3rmdAz6
    Handheld extendable hacksaw : amzn.to/3qhExmg
    Adhesive Spray: amzn.to/3c4FCbV
    Double Sided Tape for Vinyl: amzn.to/2OrZj5i
    Lowes:
    Insulation: low.es/3c0D1jj
    RevolutionPly 5mm x 4-ft x 8-ft Poplar Plywood Underlayment: low.es/3eegdiP
    I don't remember the vinyl, I'll ask Tara soon

    This is nearly identical to the way I did the floor in my Astrovan. Nicely done. I know how much work making templates can be.

    Great Idea for the access panel! I have a 1992 2wd Astro. I will follow your floor plans, Old school vans rule!
    I liked and subscribed.

    good idea buddy also a great video also I want to share the idea with you for next time you can use heavy duty aluminum foil to make it without having to use the tape with a roll of heavy duty aluminum foil you can make long strips sheets and mold it to edges of the side of the van just like you did with the paper

    I have a well maintained 1999 AWD Astro with almost 188,000 miles located in NM. Would make a great camper van...

    I used to do custom counter tops and we used to use the foam insulation. to make a pattern from the cabinets to make the countertop. And you could have done that on one side, then mirrored it on the other side. with one piece of the insulation.

    Ok, question, I have foam insulation that I'm planning to use. I'm traveling to Colorado so my dad can help with my build. It's definitely gonna be cold, did you read something somewhere about that? My Safari is in great condition and no rust so I'm not too worried, but I don't want that to be the cause. Also just started this process this weekend, made the stencil out of wrapping paper using a measuring tape and kind of guessing, not an easy process! You did an amazing job!

    More safari Astro content! I have a 2003 safari and I need to rip all the carpet out it’s moldy near the back. You fix the real door seals? & clean the drain holes?

    • @karitunes1
      @karitunes1 3 года назад +1

      I have 2002 looking for rear door leak solution too. I saw one guy drilling small holes for water to drain each corner of back trim plus better rubber seal around floor and doors

      In a previous video, I fixed a few leaks I was having. But, with those leaks now fixed, I uncovered other leaks I need to work on. I will hopefully have a video on those leaks this week.

    Hello. How is your flooring holding up after 6months? I'm about to redo my astro floor. And idk what thickness of plywood to use. Most say 3/4" but that's too heavy. Some say 1/2" which I'm learning towards , but I see you use 1/8" which is lighter and easier for me to handle by myself. Thx for any help you can offer.

    Isn’t that the foam in between the groves should have the aluminum side up?

    Why not use the old carpet for a template?

    • @AutoMotivate
      @AutoMotivate  2 года назад +1

      The old carpet was full of mold, roaches and roach shit. I couldn’t have kept it. It was too far gone. That would definitely been 10x easier though

  • @alexmorose7622

    Were you able to just remove that heater in the back corner without disassembling wires?

    • @AutoMotivate
      @AutoMotivate  2 года назад +1

      I’m not 100% sure what you mean, but it was a pita to remove. In hindsight, I would have just kept it installed and created a custom housing.

    • @AutoMotivate
      @AutoMotivate  2 года назад +1

      Would have been nice to be able to startup the van during cold weather and pre-heating the van.

      @@AutoMotivate Yeah I'm debating what I should do. May keep it, but it's in the way of my bed layout.

    • @alexmorose7622
      @alexmorose7622 2 года назад

      @@AutoMotivate True, when you removed it did you have to cap off any of the associated electrical lines that ran to it?

    • @AutoMotivate
      @AutoMotivate  2 года назад

      @@alexmorose7622 There were simple plugs, I just kept them the way they are and im soon going to lay wall panels over them. Depending how tall you are, and what bed design, I could have easily moved my bed to the right and still have room for the heater/ac. But, then it is nice to have extra room. If you are liking this series, I'm creating a channel dedicated to only projects. I should announce that channel this weekend or the beginning of next week.

    Good job, but if you're so concerned about the fuel pump failing? Why not just replace it now? Seems like that'd be easier.

    • @AutoMotivate
      @AutoMotivate  3 года назад +1

      I actually already have replaced it, and when I did, I created that access panel. So, I figure, why not make it easy to access when I semi-permanently install the floors? It wasn’t much more work anyways.
