I just replaced my Ruud unit,it was 9 years old and obsolete already,couldn't find a condensor coil it needed,but I never had a problem with it before.
I had the first Rheem unit like that one that was R410a I was their first customer to use it. The furnace that went with it had a variable speed fan for the heat and the air was configurable for 1.5 to 3 tons. It was a nice one.
Curtis you should invest in a insulation tester, or megger to test your motors, or test for resistance with your Field Piece, Klein makes a good resistance tester, and it's affordable......
If I may speculate, that's a testament to how well those old unit are built, 30years and they just started to fail, also that compressor sounds loud as hell, I'm going to assume the oil has never been changed from factory, probably get more life if it had been maintained a bit better.
Knowledge what knowledge did he display? The things sound like a diesel motor when he was finished with it 🙀 homeowners should do it themselves get the garden hose and hose on the unit outside make sure it's clean
Mine is a Rheem high efficiency. It looks just like that one. Except it had an oval capacitor in it as well. I couldn't read the name plate or the capacitors. Then I brought them and used different lights to try and read. The round one was 25MFD and the oval one was 5MFD.
I agree the fan was on the last leg to find out this capacitor they have a formal I can send to you but you also work in the same unit in the same duplex you could just step aside and check the other unit in the duplex for the capacitor I believe it's 5/40
Get the flex Fan bud. I have the dewalt but that flex fan is second to none. Not trying to sell you on the other tools but that fan is a life saver in an attic or on hot days..
Curtis , Do you know that if the Capacitor is illegible just change the motor so that you have to change the capacitor to match the motor specs! You can charge for the capacitor and motor
They maybe upset whether they complain or not. You might just have a quick chat outlining the 31st day issue and because it's so close you'll give them a 25% discount from good will perspective. Well unless you told them on the PM that the motor was destined to fail anytime.
some of those caps were labeled in raised print on the bottom of housing. I don't recall if that was one of them for sure, probably need a magnifier or take photo and zoom in. lol
Hey great video guy do you have any videos of installation of 120 volt UV light in package units I live in an area that have substantial amount of trailers and a lot of package units of having customers ask me lately about UV lights on package units I've installed them on split units which is no big deal do you have experience in that
Curtis have you accidentally installed fan upside down I. Found one years ago customer said that it was really noisy since another company worked on it and didn’t appear to be cooling as well
As always videos are good, but seems like there wasn't much troubleshooting. Cap is below specs, but how did you determine the motor was bad, I didn't see any troubleshooting or indication that the motor was the issue, or are we thinking it was the cap and motor was just on its last leg and just needed to be replaced? I'd also replace the fan blade, 3 blades seem to have a better balance than just the 2 blade, and quieter. I'd also use a 3/8" gear wrench on the blade bolt, seems faster and easier.
Sounds lime some cheap serviceman put in a R22 look a like freon when he replaced the compressor. And never changed the capacitor because he was too lazy to go into town and buy another one that match the compressor. And all that finger wagging on the shaft doesn't mean the bearings are shot.
Do we know when the compressor was replaced and if the engineer tested the capacitor ? You're right about the fan motor though, he 'tested' it and condemned it ... . but tbh he changed it because he couldn't think of anything else...what did he actually do to diagnose the issue? from the video nothing, Seems more of a guesser/parts changer than diagnostic engineer. I wonder if he'll get a call in a few days "It's still not working right".. we shall see.
@@richardbartlett6932 Yea, I wondered why he never went inside to check the airflow. Could have just been your typical blocked filter. Also, might have asked the tenant if they could check if the fan outside was spinning when they felt it wasn't working correctly. (I'm not an HVAC guy though)

Most of the R-22 versions of these I've worked on use a 25&5mfd X 370VAC cap. These are robust reliable units though

No videos, but I’ve done several. You just gotta cut some holes for your wires. Some ve installed in return duct with inspection doors on rain hood

First time I got hit by a cap was on a unit just like that and the unit was running . Not fun
I had one explode on me while I was doing an inspection to see why the unit stopped cooling. I was not a happy person that day

Old Rheems were better than newer ones ..... but personally I just do not like them at all. Good video though !!
