  • When a distress call comes in, the military's aviation roadside assistance kicks into action.
Sergeant Thomas Smithurst, an Aircraft Senior Supervisor from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, told BFBS Forces News: "We're basically the AA in the sky."
"We put these aircraft back in the sky so the pilots can achieve their sorties."

Tell them when they are finished with getting muddy, there is a fabulous well paid clean place for them with the private sector. Excellent engineering skills being traded here, Top class training and without doubt the best out there.

Mate, you really don't understand that what these guys do, preps them for life outside the military and for around 80% of them, they exceed their purely civilian trained techs. Plus while serving, they have access to some amazing training and adventure training. Plus, Air Techs don't get muddy. BTW, what do you do?

@@malcpaul996that's why so many military aircraft techies leave after a few years and go earn 2-3x the money overnight, actually being paid the industry rate for their skills. Can't blame them really, many of them end up earning more than the officers they used to serve under.

Basically there version of the US Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) teams
however the advent of heavy lift helos like the CH-53 and CH-47 make it simpler for a heavy lift helo to external carry the helo back to base via trying to fix on the spot
But there are some cases where fixing it on spot is the better option
