  • The AH-64 Apache is a four-blade, twin-turboshaft attack helicopter, developed for the United States Army as a successor to the AH-1 Cobra, to meet the advanced combat needs of the late 20th century. Introduced to U.S. Army service in April 1986, its development arose from the Advanced Attack Helicopter program, initiated in response to the vulnerable performance of the UH-1 'Huey' during the Vietnam War. The Apache was designed to be a lethal, robust, and survivable aircraft, capable of performing multiple missions, especially the anti-armor attack role.
    Operated by a crew of two, the pilot and co-pilot/gunner (CPG), the AH-64 Apache offers a dual control system. Both the pilot, seated at the rear of the tandem cockpit, and the CPG, seated at the front, are capable of flying the aircraft and performing the mission independently.
    In terms of weaponry, the Apache is armed with a 30mm M230 Chain Gun fitted under its forward fuselage and carries a mixture of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Hydra 70 rocket pods on four hardpoints mounted on stub-wing pylons.
    Several variants of the Apache have been produced over the years. The AH-64A was the original model, followed by the AH-64B. The AH-64D Apache Longbow distinguishes itself with a state-of-the-art glass cockpit and cutting-edge sensor systems.

    What about Mi-28 Havoc?

    • @tdawg5742
      @tdawg5742 11 месяцев назад +2

      Anything Russian is trash compared to the Apache.
      1. MI-28 30mm gun can only pivot 30 degrees whereas the Apache 30mm can pivot a full 180 degrees giving more flexibility on the battlefield. This means the MI-28 has to have to be lined up with the target to use the 30mm.
      2. Apache has 30mm, Hellfire missiles and 70mm rocket. Apache has a combat range of over 15 miles where the MI-28 is only 10 miles due to crappy infrared and electronic assist systems.
      3. One Apache during Operation Desert Storm took 3 Igla MANPAD hits during the air campaign and was still operational. MI-28 are getting blown out the skies in Ukraine from a single Stinger missile.
      4. There is more and more Mi-28 being lost every week from the war in Ukraine pretty soon the only ones left will be in museum.

      Apaches can link their weapons to other sensors and the co-pilots can operate drones. With the Brimstone 2 missiles, they can hit targets 37 miles away which is much farther than the range of a MANPAD.
