"We need something to get in the cockpit." - "Like ... a ladder?" - "No no, we want something different this time." - "..." - "How many options of ladder can you come up with?" - "Buckle up, DOD" 😉😂
These planes are made by completely different manufacturer, designed decades apart. A-10 - Fairchild Aircraft F-15 - Boeing F-35 - Lockheed Martin AV-8B - McDonnell Douglas
If the F-16 lands in a field, then it cannot be serviced without a ramp, it cannot be serviced. If he lands in the field, this is already an aviation incident.
There needs to be a way to build a ladder into the front wheel Imagine the ladder is built simultaneously into the front landing wheels That's the best version No need for a ladder When the front landing wheels give you both landing and ladder in 1 That's 2 for 1 utility
I can understand if it is hard to design and implement since the landing wheels is in the middle and the body of the plane is on the outside or offset to one side thus its not feasible but once designed and implemented it would save on ladders
imagine a ladder for the parts to initiate getting on while the handle bars at 11:12 do the rest no need for extra ladders when we have those handle bars for foot placement for the final strech of getting on or the starting for landing while the ladder provides the initional getting on or last foot palcements for getting off such fighter jets
Despite having built in ladders, From which of these showcased aircrafts, can a pilot unpack and get down without any sort of intervention from ground crew?
Using the internal ladder, the back seater climbs up and on to the intake, careful not to step on the edge of it. Normal ops are just to use a ladder that hooks on to the cockpit, then step over on to the intake.
F-15 is the most laconic. A-10 is brutal as his cannon. AV-8 isn't ladder, but the attraction "plop down , getting out". And yes, right-hand driving wheel forever (ladder is on the right side of the plane).
Yes. On the A10c there is a red round cap to the right that can be lifted and a button to extrend the ladder. But, to retract it, it requires ground crew. I'm not sure about the other aircraft.
Yes, it's pretty typical. The fan blades aren't rigidly attached to the hub. Centrifugal force pulls and locks them into position once the RPM's are high enough. Sometimes when a jet is just sitting on the ground and the fan is wind milling in a breeze you can hear them going "tic-tic-tic."
@avroarchitect1793 yes, you do. Most of these aircraft, especially the F15 and A10 have manual ladder releases from inside the cockpit. For the A10 for example it's a little black and yellow switch on the right panel just below the CMS.
11:24 I don't know about you guys, but I would be very nervous flying a single engine airplane, whose engine make those scratchy noises after it is shutdown.
That's every jet engine. And what that is, is the compressor blades flexing and rattling after they have cooled down and loosen. They are intentionally loose like that so when they get hot and expand they are secure.
That's so cool, but why not just make a ladder with wheel in airport, common use to all kinds of airplane. Airplane can lose some weight, and cost will also less~just a thought
You wouldn't want to rely on another outside piece of equipment to be able to get in (and out) of your plane. When jets need to be scrambled EVERY second counts and having to wheel over a ladder takes time as they can't have one lying out everywhere. Simple solution is to have the ability to mount the jet built into the jet.
From a new aerospace engineer, your line of thinking is absolutely correct. However I think the reason aligns with what the other individual stated: in the trade off between scramble time / getting in the air quickly, this solution was a good choice.
This is fascinating! I never knew that the A-10 had such a unique boarding system! 💪✈
- Board!
The pilot shouted and climbed into the plane
0:46
I read that in the event of ladder failure pilots had springs in their boots installed by ACME, tested by Wyle E Coyote.
"We need something to get in the cockpit." - "Like ... a ladder?" - "No no, we want something different this time." - "..." - "How many options of ladder can you come up with?" - "Buckle up, DOD" 😉😂
Ok.
You tried to be funny. I give you that.
These planes are made by completely different manufacturer, designed decades apart.
A-10 - Fairchild Aircraft
F-15 - Boeing
F-35 - Lockheed Martin
AV-8B - McDonnell Douglas
@@jeffsaffron5647 I'm aware. Nevertheless it's funny the solutions are so different.
Patents do apply, so different solutions. Also, austere remote operations capability, precludes having ladders everywhere.
I never knew I needed this video. Thank you.
I could never be an A10 pilot - my fear of heights would kick in halfway up that ladder
🤣🤣🤣 I see what you did there.
If the F-16 lands in a field, then it cannot be serviced without a ramp, it cannot be serviced. If he lands in the field, this is already an aviation incident.
...That was awesome.
Excelente video. Realmente mecanismos increíbles. Bendiciones.
You can see how the F-14 Tomcat boarding ladder works in "Top Gun: Maverick" when they steal the Tomcat.
I can't understand why I was enjoying watching this video about retractable ladders! I'm off to searching for a collection different drain plugs.
Type of F4 laddar, It was the classic
Great thanks! Now please post a video how to fly these things, that will be everything I need.
Back in my day, we jumped up.
Safe, sensible and light. Impressive
So smart

Military should get on this comment
Heads up to you guys
Start engineering and designing such functions and utility of what I said
Less need for a ladder when the front landing wheels is the ladder
This isent revolutionary
Just simple to say but hard to design

ahhh now i know to board them now to learn flying
Nice design
5:33 does anyone know what role does that little car that plugged into the F15 take?
Hollywood made me like those death machines. And then I grew up.
The harrier looks like the most difficult to enter the cockpit
Despite having built in ladders, From which of these showcased aircrafts, can a pilot unpack and get down without any sort of intervention from ground crew?
Just pull the ejection lever
c152 should have on of these to prevent falling off the strup step
we wouldn't be where we are if it weren't for Thomas Ladder
John ladder himself
Nice vdo
Av8 ladder is so small
That's what she said
You can tell the Harrier is a British design because the pilot enters from the right hand side, just like a British car.
Wish to see how the man on the backseat of the F15 is getting in and out. Looks pretty tight. And at 7:56 what does that signal mean?
might be a squadron-specific gesture, i couldnt find anything about it besides it might be connected to when they taxi
Using the internal ladder, the back seater climbs up and on to the intake, careful not to step on the edge of it. Normal ops are just to use a ladder that hooks on to the cockpit, then step over on to the intake.
but if there is only the pilot
after climbing how do you save the ladder?
F-15 is the most laconic.
A-10 is brutal as his cannon.
AV-8 isn't ladder, but the attraction "plop down , getting out". And yes, right-hand driving wheel forever (ladder is on the right side of the plane).
Is very interesting how to get inside.
Two things: I did not know the F-15 was a two-seater second, I guess we will not see Lizzo flying a fighter any time soon.
it hard to believe F15 and av8b ladder won't pop out mid-flight. it just a single push
F18 has to be my favorite
You forgot to include the FireFox ladder...
many upgraded ladder style

Yes. On the A10c there is a red round cap to the right that can be lifted and a button to extrend the ladder. But, to retract it, it requires ground crew. I'm not sure about the other aircraft.
6:28 Never get into a plane whose pilots callsign is "CRASH"!
F-16, F-2, F-22: Why we dont have 😠😠😠
A-10 is my favorite. The F-15 really sucks, especially in the rain.
F-15 is all weather fighter while A-10 is low altitude, no radar, day time CAS bomber. You are comparing apples and oranges😂😂😂
@ and both have retractable boarding ladders, but the A-10 is more comfortable to stand on while you work compared to the F-15.
F-16 jealous of everyone’s ladder 😢
The British: building the first vtol fighter jet? 🧠. Creating a descent ladder for said jet? 🦧
👍👍👍
1:57 필승(must/will win) Korean word is recognized on his helmet! He must've worked with S.K pilots in past.
Why does the Harrier II seem more practical than designing a big ladder you have to stuff away
11:23 that noise is normal?????
Yes, it's pretty typical. The fan blades aren't rigidly attached to the hub. Centrifugal force pulls and locks them into position once the RPM's are high enough. Sometimes when a jet is just sitting on the ground and the fan is wind milling in a breeze you can hear them going "tic-tic-tic."
I kinda wondering how do you operate ladder from the inside
You don't.
@avroarchitect1793 yes, you do. Most of these aircraft, especially the F15 and A10 have manual ladder releases from inside the cockpit. For the A10 for example it's a little black and yellow switch on the right panel just below the CMS.
@Nebby_Webby I know for a fact that the Hornet doesn't
😬...GR8 opportunities for human FOD insertion. Auxiliary intakes must really work good in reducing inlet volume of the primaries!
"Dadbod" Boer hahaha. Marines get away with cooler callsigns than the Air force does. :)
Ace Combat!!😅
Suprised f35 dont have an elevator or a crane that picks you up and puts inside for All that cost
When will we be able to board the ship like the game No Man's Sky😂
It's gotta suck if those ladders mess up 😐

You don't want people banging their ladders against your expensive new jet, do you?? 😄
Why do the Navy and Marine maintainers wear head protection and the Air Force maintainers not?
Not much discreet in design for the back seat of F-15 (D/E/EX). The canopy should open higher to be easier to access.
why make a plane as light as possible, but not leave the ladder on the ground?
Bonjour
