- Los Angeles actually had REAL surf. The best surf swell we've had in years hit the South Bay December 8-9, 2020.
Barrels, good size and open faces are a few of the reasons I believe this was the best swell to hit the South Bay region of Los Angeles in years.
This swell brought surfers, photographers, spectators and even RUclips personality and filmmaker Casey Neistat out to the beach.
I'm Brad Jacobson, thanks for watching and I'll see you on the sand.
Music: Shtriker and Kevin Conion. Спорт
My new favourite surf channel. Keep it up
He’s good isn’t he?
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.
@@L0zAA Thanks!

@@nadiakster true dude they go hard aswell
Love the Endless Summer narration style.
Ik same🤙
Thanks. I love that movie (if you couldn't tell) .
got that vibe too
totally agree
Nobody's doing anything else different these days.
Caught some of the best waves of life this swell, been waiting for something like this for months.
Stoked to have great waves!
This is the best surf vid I've seen in a while, and probably a new favorite. Really captures the LA lineup on a good winter day.
Thanks for the kind words!
7:25 I'm not kidding, I think that guy legitimately just died
It was a close call but I've spoken to him since.
@@BradJacobson oh ok good
@@BradJacobson thank god for this comment
The only good Chanel that talks about where I love to surf
It can get good when the swell direction is right!
Toward end of swell, i think it was WED/THU i checked the regular beachbreak (elporto) and guys were charging. You'd think just closeouts, but no, some corners to be had. Glassy and big, just gotta pick your corner, and you score. Much respect to anyone who can endure out there long enough, to pick off a good one. #LAonfire
I surfed Redondo Breakwater alot in earlt 1960, and that is the best shape I have seen fom that area.
Still gets good. Thanks for watching.
“Obi Wan is that you?” I almost chocked. Thank you for the great videos and the quality music going with them
:) Thanks!
Endless Summer 3? 10/10 commentary :)
Thanks for the kind words.
The portrait photography going on at 7:42 was something else.
"Say cheese". Thanks for watching.
Awesome cinematography and narration to boot. I thought this was from a pro surfing channel the first time I saw this.
Thanks! I love your Rams profile pic.
Great footage, love the narration... almost has a Bruce Brown (The Endless Summer) feeling, and the jazz soundtrack was totally groovy man (Austin Powers) 🤣
Thanks for the kind words.
With all that’s going on in your mad arse country at the moment it’s good to see some of you guys having fun.
Good break from the crazy.
I learned to surf back in 84 at Huntington beach. I ended up on a ten foot tanker board and loved it. One day the guy who taught me asked if I wanted to go to the Wedge, I hesitated, but in the end, went. Using a boogie board I rode three waves and survived. The waves break in very shallow water, and you can get pile driven into the sand. My friend rode 7 or 8 and he did okay, but boy was he battered and bruised by the end of the day. Watching this video makes me long for the summer of 84. I think I will watch "The Endless Summer" now :)
You are getting better. Great classic style. Go with it.
Thanks!
Brad love the way you narrate your videos!!! Great content!!!
Thanks for the kind words!
Kiff vid brah...just had fun waves up the west coast here in Cape town today.
Thanks! Stoked you're getting waves too.
Very cool Video! I had a lot of Fun watching that! Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words.
3:48 outstanding toe work my man!
Here in NorCal we had almost 3 straight weeks of light East winds combined with double/triple overhead W/NW swell, Salud!
Best LA session in a long time, rad footage!
Thanks! it was a great swell.
Yesss this narration is a tribute to Bruce brown and I love it
Thanks! I am a huge fan of Bruce
This is great man! I don’t even surf... The jazz with the shredding is perfect!
Thanks for watching.
Totally enjoyed and liked the music and The raw power of those waves! The wipe outs too, even the best go down hard.
dang did that guy get merked? 7:26
Ima go out on no limb here and say he’s dead
It was a close call but he was fine.
@@BradJacobson Ha, did his board survive?!
@@joeblow1942 surprisingly yes!
@@BradJacobson must’ve had a couple of new dings after tho😂
Such a fun run of waves. The winter is YOUNG
You always make it look better than it actually was...but this swell was really good. Hope we get many more days like this.
Great video. Lots of time shooting to get this kind of video. Impressive and I agree with you about best swell in years. It was good down South Too at Big Rock.
Thanks!
Sick video! Nice to see the South Bay getting some love
Thanks!
Sick vid had really fun during this swell!
Thanks! This swell was crazy. Stoked to get some good waves
Loving your vids and creative style from Australia
Thanks. Really appreciate it
Great video Brad. Super tunes. Merry Xmas L.A.!
Thanks!
Legit Bruce Brown stylie...Narration, shot composition, editing, even down to the smooth, saxy, jazz sounds.Great Job!!!!!!. Made it your own. Thanks for keepin' the dream alive ! My new go to channel
Thanks for the kind words.
@@BradJacobson Hi. My days of enjoying the glide ran from 1964 through 1994. As far as capturing waves on film, in the end, the camera was Canon's F1 with a Century 350mm, as well as the Nikonos. It turned out that I preferred surfing over standing on the beach. Once in awhile I'll check on my favorite spots via RUclips. 95% of the time I bail on that idea due to the mediocre quality. Thumbs up all around on your production quality. I'm 66 going on 25, so I'm partial to this music. This one was a pleasure. Thanks. Cheers from Kansas City!
at first i thought it was little too corney, but came to love this video. great job
Thanks!
in Mexico swells like that are totally normal majority of time of the year, but in summer we get gigantic swells that can generate waves from 8-10 meters
This is nuts! Great work!
Thanks for watching
This channel is going to blow up!
Thanks, hope so!
Awesome music🎶 !!!
Thanks!
FUN VID ! Even the "StinkBugStiffies" were gettin the waves of their lives ! Right on for sharing the props ! Hubby Fish.
Thanks!
A lot of spanking going on out there, good rockin' beach break fun. Glad you guys got some.
Thanks for watching.
Love the Commentary, almost a Modern day Bruce Brown. Cheers #subscribed
Thanks for the kind words and subscribing!
Really liked the "Endless Sumer" flavor you gave to the narration at beginning of the video.
Thanks! Appreciate the positive feedback
La has some weird Times for waves.Nice waves decent surfers and a bunch of Kooks sounds like La surfing. Nice video Brad caught awsome set with friends, best dayz to surf.
Thanks!
That was a blast. Looks like fun.
Great Video Sir.
I absolutely loved your narration, choice of music, and I share the opinions of others on the bitchin Endless Summer/Bruce Brown vibe. Great entertainment that I would pay to watch for sure.
A message to all the haters out there...lighten up! You'll get love where you give love.❤
Thanks for the kind words.
GREAT music brah!
Thanks!
Love the commentary, like a modern day Bruce Brown. Great surf.
I was thinking same thing. Endless summer vibe
Thanks!
Excellent music choices.
Thanks!
4:43 boogie ride successful!
Yeah, he had a great ride.
GREAT video!
Thanks!
this commentary was perfect and hilarious
Thanks!
Damn, I can't believe I blew this swell! I went out to 41st St. cuz I didn't think it would be any different at the jetty! AAAHHHHH! Anyway, do you know what specific swell direction this was? (angle and or general direction like NW would be best) I'd love to make it out there next time. Sick video!
Thanks, I didn't remember the direction.
Nice Work!
this makes me want to get one of those weather radios..... wish i had picked up waving a while back.. great scene goin so callllllla
Great stuff!
Thanks!
Nice and dig the music.
Thanks!
I agree that it was big but in LA on Monday It was like 8 foot closeouts at Pv cove and el porto
This is Porto or hammerland just of the jetty on 43
Good to see Lucio was out there filming too. (Lucio Gomez) as well as Obi Won Kenobi. LOL.
He's a good guy!
Used to surf check PV and South Bay almost every Saturday morning back in the 80s. Never saw it like that. Then again, we had to get swell information from a weather radio back then.
Great video and narration. The second song flows nicely, like surfing should be; rather than the jerky, 'how many times can I smack the lip' nonsense.
Thanks! I remember 976-SURF
Yo Brad I think your videos must be getting better because this is like the second or third one I’ve seen this week you must have somebody doing some kind of optimization stuff going on over there, the ad $ is paying off.I was going to say something about the music at the beginning but it actually got a little bit better at the end there keep up the good work those videos will hopefully keep some surfers out of our spots and more down in the ones you filmed, boy I bet your peers love talking shit to you. You know what I just remembered I think your last video was very shaky and I commented on it. I’m glad I did because you did a much better job this time. See ya bud
Thanks for the kind words. No $ spent, just think RUclips likes my new style.
Yo that’s el segundo it’s really good and I love it I would love to like w brad if he pulls up i will be there on Christmas and every Sunday hope I can make it in a vid
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
now that's surfin music, lockdown over surfs pumping.
Thanks for watching
Had to watch this entire swell from the tank farm above Hammerland... Damnit Boy.
Lookin clean👀 nice commentary!
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words.
So Sick. Greetings from Vero Beach Florida. AKA Dodgertown
Where our reef occasionally shapes real waves....almost never.
BlueRusso @veromikes
Thanks!
@@BradJacobson The county north of us, with the Space Center, Cocoa Beach and whatnot has a Music Group that promotes smooth jazz. I need to check for overlap with the surfing communities. I can't exactly imagine our Brad Domke set to jazz.
Cool man. I used to sponge there. Tough paddle on a big day.
It can get heavy! Thanks for watching.
Those look like some fun waves.
Super fun. Thanks for watching
Good narration. Another Bruce Brown.
Thanks!
Ha ha, I know what ya mean, I live at a place called Moore Park Beach near Bundaberg Australia, it’s protected by Frazer island and the Great Barrier Reef, great vid cheers from Oz, hope you guys are safe n well👍
Thanks!
this video was SICK
Thanks!
I watch a South Bay surf report every morning. It's always bigger than waist high, BUT Holy Close Outs!
Sick edit
Thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks!
yeah I was at Porto but it seemed like all closeouts
Usually is. Thanks for watching.
Just wondering what happened to the guy that fell on top of the rocks around minute 7:30? I would’ve love to see a little bit more of that
It was a close call but he was fine.
@@BradJacobson thanks for the quick reply or a reply even at that. It’s nice to see people take a little time in their busy Schedules to answer some questions and I’m not being sarcastic I know how much time it takes to film and edit, so as a gift back to you I have an idea it’s not very unique at all and I am sure you already thought of it so I am just here to add a little catalyst to your program. Here goes how about a film showing some incredible wipeouts but with the extra footage of how they survive afterwards. For example the guy that ate it in front or ontop of the rocks or jetty, how about show him after he pops up gasping for air and showing his position throughout the chaos. Just a thought my friend I would be very interested in that.
Hope your not getting to much grief from some of the lower intellects in our sport. Peace BJ
I am jelly AF, I would have been there but Larry H. Parker got me... you know the story! LOL
north OC was firing too, lots of closeouts but also a lot of clean OH barrels
Yeah, saw some photos/clips from down there. Looked fun.
I agree, some goodness in H B 👍
Prayin for more of these days this winter
Wow I haven't surfed my home break in over 20 years and I can't believe the crowds and photographers there, now it looks like Huntington, sucks for those that now have to fight for waves. So many winter days spent at the jetty with just me a few of my friends picking and choosing waves. Back in the day we called northside T.O.A.D. lol.
Bruce brown would of loved the endless summer commentary vibe
Thanks. Absolutely love his work.
Had to be sore after 7:26 holy hell
Had to hurt!
This RUclips channel deserves more it is so fun to watch the videos. GOOD VID
Thanks for the kind words. Love the positive replies.
Legit. San Diego local impressed
Thanks!
Doooooont mind if I dooooooo!🤣
I actually laughed the first time I said it, had to record it twice. Thanks for watching.
the amount of roofing that goes on is ridiculous
the wavestorm guy tho!!!!
Nice music.
Thanks!
Brad do you mind talking about what equipment you use to record with? I would really appreciate knowing and others might also. If you do not want to talk about it, I can understand.
No problem. I shoot with a Canon 1DX Mark ii and a Canon 400mm 2.8 lens.
@@BradJacobson Brad all I can say is holy crap!!! I don't even understand the 1DXM2, I just admire it. Wow, a 400mm 2.8 prime. I bet you put the whole thing together for under a $1000 (LOL). I don't understand how you view. Maybe there is a monitor on the right hand side that I can't see. What a setup. You might want to think about doing a video on your setup. Not everyone has a rig that specialized.
@@venturasurfing Thanks! I love the set up.
I can still feel those closeouts unfortunately
That wacky voice = immediate subscribe
Thanks for subscribing. Really appreciate it.
Bruce Brown vibes all the way I love it
Thanks!
I really liked this video but do you have a pop filter on your recording mic.? Your ps really pop out and it would improve the sound quality. 0:41 it really shows here.
Edit: when you say probably
I don't. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll add it.
Nice right to Left barrel
Man surftrip incoming
shore break down at docwheiler was insane
A few guys were charging it. Thanks for watching
Got the flu the day before the swell... crying at the moment
Bad timing! You'll get the next one.
Best music of all time? :) 😺 (maybe we can work on that) Glad to see Wagner in the video at 8:55 best surfer at El Porto. (one of the best, before somebody gets angry i just said that) My opinion, the big day, Day 1 was better on the right, and next day, Day 2 was better at the Left. Hammerland is the spot here. Swell angle dictates which side you want to be on. This swell was mostly a West direction. Lastly: When you snake someone, only if they're 60 feet back behind you (totally unmakeable - they must like closeouts, God knows why) or they snaked you earlier (then it's OK) or they're a kook who falls 99% of time, or they blew it on an epic one, then it's OK to burn them, in effort to not waste future waves. But just snaking everybody all the time for no reason, that starts to piss me off.
Thanks for watching!
@@BradJacobson Couldn't avoid it if i tried. Love it!
Matt Pagan! Wow, Matt Pagan on my board!
He was killing it!
Jetty was lookin good
Awesome footage of some Average Joe's. Props.
