This is a fantastic vid'! So many times I have heard "great beginner spot" and you get there and it might be a beginner if you're from Australia, but for those of us learning in the UK, it's all relative! Having surfed around Lisbon, the description for each beach's level for UK surfers is spot on. Thanks Matt!
Oh… My… Goodness! I’ve had holidays in Alvor and last time we took a day out and went to Lagos. Loved the place! Surf shops and I saw surfers leaving home with their boards. This has made me really excited and wanting to travel to a Portugal to surf. A few years ago a decent swell was rolling into Alvor and I walked down the beach asking the lifeguards if anyone had a surfboard I could borrow, they only had SUPs! Maybe next time 🙏🏼🤞🏼
I’m from Spain and I’ve been lucky to have surfed in all spots you mentioned (except Porto and Lagos. Last one always saw it flat). My fav of them all is Arrifana. Not only for its waves but the beach itself. Its just magical. Also a huge fan of Baleal and Peniche! Very nice summary ;)
I’ve heard Nazare is a great for beginners, especially because you always have a jet ski nearby in case you fall or if you’re learning to duck dive. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hey Matt, I went to Lagos for surfing, but the waves were shit so everyone reading this don’t go to Lagos for surfing and stay home. On the bright side, I met this girl, so I’ll still drop a like. Thanks anyway!
What are your thoughts on Zavial ? I've seen some beautiful barrels there when there was a big swell with the good direction. It was nice looking at the advanced surfers from the beach :D
You forgot Zavial or were you keeping that secret lol, to be fair hardly ever works but when it does its Epic!! Just got back from 10 days on my friends farm near Aljezur. I'm a 30 yr veteran of that area, been surfing here since before time, and all the build up of tourists and buildings. It's still my favorite area to surf, and if I have one favorite its Praia de Amoreira or Arrifana.
you should ease up on the memes mate. it can get a bit annoying. Also it might be a good idea to record a bit further away from your face if possible. Cheers

Nice video Matt. I too learned to surf in S Wales so you can understand why I love Portugal so much! I'll look out for you the next time I'm in Lagos.
Ha, small world! For sure I'll keep my eyes open :)

I love beginner waves even though I am not😂 love the movie clips in the editing. You Must be watching tons of movie after a good day of surf 🏄♂️

Hi Matt! Nice channel and great vid! Cheers from Sagres :)
Thanks! Catch you in the water 🤙

Zavial can be ok when the swell is smaller, but it's a bit on the heavy side for beginners IMHO.

Zavial is coming next video!
Thank you SO much!!
Glad it helped!
Melhor dica do vídeo: não se aproximem de Carca nem do Guincho!
Why? Guincho can be amazing. Its just not for the weak.
well, not really that beginner friendly.
What do you do in terms of work in Portugal , what job oportunities can one find as a EU citizen ?
To be honest, a lot of friends have some sort of business - be it in Portugal or elsewhere.
Moving to Burgau in 4 weeks! Wanna be surfer 🏄♀️ 🌊
Great place be - Burgau is beautiful!
@@MattHapgood what forecast should I be looking out for in Burgau for good beginner conditions? :)
@@LoveLearningInDorset Keep you eyes on Surfline for a South Easterly swell - coming from Spain (these normally provide fun waves at Burgau).
@@MattHapgood thank you, will do😁👍
Nice. Good video. What is best beaches closest to Albufeira?
In Winter there are a few spots all along the South coast, but in Summer you’ll probably have to drive about an hour to the West coast 🤙
not involving the cascais/lisbon area is criminal. Some of the best waves are in guincho and carcavelos
@@AramisSaiyadthanks for the comment! But for beginners I don't agree
Thanks mate! Heading to Portugal in a couple of days and getting a campervan to explore the surff
so this was exactly what I needed!
Nice! Best way to get around!
Nice list 🤙
Glad you enjoyed it 🤙
you forgot Nazaré wich is super beguiner friendly
haha, yeah forgot that one!
Someone’s a fan of Anchorman! 🤣
haha, aren't we all?!
Mahalo! Great! Going summer 2024
Awesome! Let me know how you get on :)
Greate video, but "speak spanish"? I can't believe you don't know de difference betwenn portuguese and spanish. :((
Haha, I guess the joke was lost on you 😂
why didn't you tell anything about the strong heavy ultra consistent northwest winds that hit the Algarve during summer months?
New one coming soon on the Algarve specifically 🤙
Is that good for beginners or not?
Cabedelo at Figueira da Foz. Thank me later.
Thanks!
you better believe you did good by not including my homebreak...
No secret spots in this one ;)
Melhor dica do vídeo foi quando disse para não irem a Carca nem ao Guincho! 🙌
Hope you're not coming to my homebreak too...assholes everywhere!
Nooooooo, more videos about Portugal, nooooooooo more, what part you don't get????
Just sharing my knowledge to help others

Thank you! I’m moving to Portugal soon, looking for a new home, so that was helpful. I have never been there, but I feel the calling🙂
