Who else here is binge watching these two wonderful human beings?
I love them❤️ The fact they giving all this info for free
We are! And making plans to waking up from the "American Dream" and move to our freedom reality in Portugal, no joke.
I am! I just watched 4 videos back to back and they are great! So much information, very positive and very clear to follow. thumbs up!!
🙋🏾♀️I am!! I’m trying to be retired like them in a few years
New arriver.....almost 2 years after they released the video. What a fun and informative couple!!
My parents moved to Portugal when I was a senior in high school and I lived in Cascais for a year. The Portuguese are really nice people. That I know. Lovely people, lovely country.
You must be from a rich country then.
They’re not nice to people from poor countries.
In fact they’re rude racist people.
@@robmarquez2933????
@@robmarquez2933 lool
@@robmarquez2933 care to elaborate?
I spent a day in Cascais. Too stuffy, for me. It's like the Carmel of Portugal. Your expected to pay more for the same things. Why?
Hi Guys. I was heavily inspired by your channel to start my own channel and I just uploaded my first video. I am an American living in Switzerland and am going to be sharing tips about money and living in Switzerland and buying property in Europe. Thanks for the motivation!
That is awesome! Congrats on starting your channel and sharing your journey. We'll check it out for sure :-)
Give is the link to your channel... i live in Europe, i heard Switzerland is the most expensive country in Europe, it would be nice to see prove...
Princess Princess Just click on her picture!
Hi Lisa,
I am interested in your channel about living Switzerland 🇨🇭. I am considering a vacation home in Lisbon or Switzerland.
@@lambo650ER Well, Lisbon will be sunnier than most places in Switzerland, except maybe Tessin.
I dont know why ur videos are addicting. I live in Portugal, but i just love watching your videos. It's like a sense of pride towards my country
I just love you guys. I love your positivity, your creativity, your drive, your adventurous spirits.
I watch all of your financial videos, bought your course, and I’ve started investing monthly. I was actually looking at retiring in Portugal before I learned that you live there.
I’m originally from the bay area and if I ever get over there, would love to have a three hour lunch with you and your family.
Keep up the amazing work!
I feel like you guys were one of the first channels to put Portugal on the map. It's always been on the back of my mind, but now I'm entertaining it more and more.
Your pronunciation of Portuguese is getting better and better! Parabéns e continuem aprendendo cada vez mais! Obrigado pelo vídeo!
You are too kind Lucas! We're trying! :)
I love the content that you guys put out. I've been watching for over 6 monthsand you two have helped me in my fiance start our own financial Independence journey. And literally two days after her and I talked about starting to seriously think about retiring in Portugal you started this series. Keep up the good work and we'll keep watching.
I love Portugal! I am 33 and inspired to reach financial independence. I love how fun you guys are. I wish you all the best!
I still can't wrap my head around 200k housing prices around the world. A house in TORONTO Canada starts at 1 Million If you're lucky! Tax rates are about 35-40% for a decent income. Maybe Retiring in an other country is the ideal plan as of now.
I live in NYC and prices are even worst here. I'm 26 and I wasn't sure where I would retire when the time comes... but I'm definitely retiring abroad, most likely in South America. Brazil, Colombia, Argentina etc. Start learning Spanish or Portuguese if you're young. It opens up doors.
you can even go to central canada and in USA many places can get you a 200-300k house
Rent, do not own. I own a house in Toronto, and it is the biggest financial mistake I have made, my second is buying a condo in Vancouver.
That's socialism for you. Enjoy it.
Well, I'm portuguese. 200.000 euros are a lot for a native. Usually we buy houses or apartments for 50.000euros
When I visited Lisbon in 2014, mainly to go to Fatima with Mom because her dream was to visit Fatima , I fell in love with nazare which to me represent everything I am looking , beautiful town on the water with very good seafood restaurants and charming views, and very friendly people. You guys made me very happy when you mentioned nazare , I’m saving and waiting but buying a property in nazare is going to happen in the next couple of years! Thank you
I am amazed by your level of research before buying a home. You apply the same rigour and discipline in any financial decision which is amazing. Thanks for sharing your "rich journey" with us 🙏😊
You guys are an inspiration to so many people. Keep inspiring us all on your journey. 🙌
They really are.
Thank you so much!!!
Our rich journey Nice to have a family already. As a single black man I'd love to visit these areas and I want a life a better life than in the states in which im very familiar but I don't know how much I'd invest and ultimately living the rest of my life in Portugal. Its a more serious change when you're single as I am.Thats why I've always believed in living life in 2 different countries. This may seriously require the funds to do so but could also be planned very strategically and is possible.I have alot of new family in America that I've yet to connect with but will very soon.I just want to be able to have the best of both worlds without one being over another in the final decision making. Thanks for the journey I always enjoy the experience.
fantastic guys, my husband is part Portuguese heritage and we often hang out in Lisbon - my favourite city in Europe and it's such a beautiful country. The difference in real estate prices is incredble.
You guys are such an inspiration!!! Please do more portugal content like this! I would love to see more vlog style content on your amazing everyday lives!
Wow! Thank you so much! That is so encouraging to hear!
The most pleasant couple I have listened to in years !! Very informative. Good job
Thank you for breaking down Portugal, my favorite country in all of Europe, hands down. From the Northern region where some of the best "Mom & Pop" restaurant cooking anywhere, to the Lisbon region where they party like 1999. And finally, the Algarve where I'd like to retire myself. This region still has the Moorish African influence still embedded within Its culture which makes this place feel like home.
That’s for the tourists so they can feel an exotic taste! That’s not Portuguese style though!
@S.W.W. Thank you Sir for the REAL history lesson. I was just about to break it down when you responded...by the way, Eduardo did you know the Moors built the first University there.
@@Supermiranda78 My Portuguese friends and I didn't dine at the" touristy" places! There are "Mom & Pop " restaurants all over if you know where to find them.
Makes me want to move to Portugal!!!
YES!

Just discovered your channel this morning and have watched six videos thus far today. I will be signing for your course when I get home today. You two come across as sincere, good people, trying to help others. Keep up the good work.
Love you two!!! I have a classmate that lives in Lisbon and he loves it! He became a citizen and retired from the Orchestra there! He just sang for the July 4th celebration! You two got my mind going! We are getting close to retirement! Thanks for more insights!!
OK, first off, you two are adorable! I really appreciate how you've presented the information. Your video and text editing are tight and not free formed. You clearly did your research, made a plan and presented very clearly. I can't begin to tell you how many folks out there post 15, 20 or even 30 minute videos on "the cost of retiring in (fill in the blank) and have about 2 to 3 minutes of actual useful info followed by the rest at a ramble with either no focus or focusing on various topics. It's exhausting. So, I'll be watching your series with a great deal of interest.
If you ever do another video on property in the regions, I'd love to see samples of less modern properties. For many home buyers, the rage is new, new, new. For us it's personality and tradition. We'd definitely watch a video on that! Thanks so much!
My dad was born in Tavira, and I’ve been going there every year since I was kid. I absolutely love this place but, just like you said, I can definitely say that there weren’t as many foreigners in the 2000s as there are now. In the summer, the city is just overcrowded with tourists and that is the #1 thing I deplore. In that regard, I really miss the old days, but the place is still so beautiful and so dear to my heart ❤️
You two were the first to introduce FIRE to me. Much love from nyc 💕
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast! I need to start learning Portuguese. I really enjoyed Lisbon/Sintra. Thanks for the great information and keep up the great work 👍🏾
You are so kind :-) Thank you so much!
Wow, you guys are so incouraging! Keep it up 👍. My wife and I are debt free and within 8yrs of our FIRE goal. We can't watch enough of your videos! Thx again for what you do!
That is so exciting! Congratulations on being debt free and within reach of your FIRE goal! You will look back 8 yrs from now and think about how fast time flew by!!!
Thank you for this video!! I've never considered moving out of North America but the price for such nice spacious homes (besides Lisbon I guess), scenery, and lifestyle makes it so tempting to move there ✨
We've loved living abroad! We lived in Spain and Japan before this. If you ever want to test it out first, you could look for jobs that hire abroad. That way, you can see if you like it. AND, if you find the right employer, they may pay for your housing abroad. We worked for the federal government and got all of our housing and utilities paid for when we lived in Japan and Spain! :)
@@OurRichJourney I'm new here. Have you done a video on why you chose Portugal over Spain? Thanks!

@Miguel Pimentel bjebifewbewfbiubiucs Sounds incredible, I am Portuguese originally and prefer to be somewhere like that with access to the Algarve on occasion. Somewhere my son could swim like a lake or river would be fantastic. What website would you recommend for land / property research?
My (Portuguese) friends got married there, such a beautiful area! We stayed for about three days and it was one of the best parts of our trip!
You guys have done a wonderful job with this video. I got friends in Portugal and have travel to most of the cities. I agree, that Nazaré it is stunning. There’s simply so many beautiful places in that country and hope to live there one day.
Yes! It's beauty upon beauty in Portugal!!!
Cristina and Lamont are absolutely candid, transparent, informative, well informed family people with great personality. We love and support you guys and have shared all of your videos with family and friends. We will contact you when we are ready to move to Portugal. We've visited several times in the past and were debating between Portugal and Spain. We are heading to Portugal as my wife grandparents were born and raised in Portugal and we are considering relocating to Algarve or Cascais.
You guys are amazing as a couple and team. God bless you and thank you for the info.

Once I get my Visa cleared, I am moving to Portugal as well! I am very interested in building my own house or refurbishing a dilapidated home somewhere. My dream is a country home with studio apartment in the city. Great videos! Keep them coming!
I love this so much. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for joining us on the journey!!!
Happy to have found you guys! I wish all the best to the family. I’m Brazilian and my wife is American and we love Portugal. We do plan on retiring there, but we are not ready yet. We agree, central Portugal is beautiful. Muitas felicidades, vocês fizeram a escolha certa!
I'm Brazilian therefore I speak Portuguese. Your pronunciation is great guys! Portuguese is HARD, but I can see your effort and results. Keep going!
I'm pretty sure that I can get my wife on-board with a FIRE strategy, where we end up somewhere in the Mediterranean thanks to you guys. :)
I'm here to Canada im very happy you chose portugal 🇵🇹 very safe place i am a Portuguese I will go back i miss it peace ✌ and lots of love
I feel like you guys should be the official Portugal immigration representatives! You made me love Portugal even more. Did you all mention Aveiro? I liked it there as it was super mellow. This was by far my favorite video.
Thanks for adding Aveiro (we didn't mention it)! So glad you liked the video!
Christina has the best smile all through the video. Keep on smiling....
😊 thank you Harry! You are too kind!
Y’all are adorable! A fan in Texas here, hoping to retire in Portugal soon, after we get our vaccinations! Thank you so much for sharing such great information. God bless you four!
You are most welcome to Portugal
Hi Sea Breeze ! Looking for all the replies , I got interested in yours . Since it has already passed 1 year , I am just wondering if you guys’ve made it ! We are also a couple from the South of Texas intending to spend part of our retirement in Portugal 🇵🇹 We love this channel as well ! So please if by any chance you see my reply I would love to get your response. Thanks a lot 🙏y’all 🤠
I recently read that positive optimistic people have a much better chance of reaching a very high age than pessimists. If that is true then this couple is surely going to live to be over 100 years old (both of them, not in total).
Charming smiles, you still have them!
Aww, thank you!
There are lots of videos about moving to Portugal but your videos are so helpful, practical and perfect for families. Thank you! Plus, you're such a cute family and seem so friendly on screen!
Omg so jealous of you guys!! I have Portuguese parents but grew up in the states and every time my wife and I visit Portugal, we talk about moving there cause we love it there so much!! U guys r living our dream!! Enjoy every minute of it. N yes Amon’s pronunciation is better hahah but Christina is at least trying and she’ll get there soon enough!! Much love
portugal is my dream country to live in. so beautiful!
The Silver Coast is the very best! I'm surprised you didn't mention Caldas da Rainha!! It's very decent sized city and close to the coast. Nazare is a lovely town, it has a beautiful beach. definitely super touristy in the summer and during the giant waves. My personal favourite it the Peniche area.
Yes! We've been to those areas, too! So many beautiful areas to mention! :)
Watching this video 3 yrs. after makes me cry looking at the 2020 prices!
This sounds lovely. My dad lives in Mexico and loves it. He is from Hungary.
You're over here, too? Fab!
Love this series! I am hooked into your videos. I passed the FIRE 🔥 age and not near retirement but take much of your information in consideration when planning my finances. Looking forward more videos like this one...wish they were more than once a week 😀🙌🌏
Take shots every time they say Portugal...you're hammered after the first 2 minutes.
🤣
We can’t believe how similar our situation is to yours! we reached FIRE in August 2019, I’m 37 and my partner 40, we came to Portugal from Spain, attracted by the friendly people and tax advantages. We were exploring a lot of places in Portugal, we DON’T have a car (we prefer not to drive), we are currently renting in Ericeira and looking to buy around here. Do you have any thoughts about Ericeira? Looking forward to the big reveal! 😉
Talking about advantages and in the same times of low taxes is a bit of irony no ? Who do you think pay for those advantages like social security etc etc ?
Thank you sonmuch for this very enlightening episode. I live in Spain which is very close to Portugal, looking to start investing in real estate in the nearest future.
Oh, wow! We're neighbors! :) Lots of great places to look at in Portugal! :)
Can you do an updated version of this? I keep hearing how much property prices have risen. Are houses in Silver Coast area still reasonable? Love your home. 😊 Thanks
I loved your tour of Portugal! Algarve and the North are beautiful areas. Based on your video I now want to visit the central region, Nazare ❤️. In Geneva, Switzerland you can only get three and a half car parks for USD200,000 and no view nor access to any beach.🤣🤣🤣 I am looking forward to the big reveal!
Wow! In parts of the Bay Area, you can only get a plot of land! :( Now you have to check out central Portugal!
Yep, I'm in Arbon (TG) and there are basically no houses under 1 million, but shockingly, there is an apartment in my building currently listed for 375K and it is the lowest-priced offering in the whole town. The building is older, but we're just steps away from the Bodensee. So nice.
We currently live in Colombia and have plans to reach FI in 8-10 years. My kids will be about 12 and 16 by then. I can’t wait to have the freedom that I see you guys have. 😭😭🥰
Congrats on your FIRE journey! We'll be rooting for you so keep us posted :-)

We were in Lisbon last week and when I look at idealista.pt and check out neighborhoods around Avenida da Liberdade , Lisbon Oceanarium, etc, I see that the apartments are more in the million Euro range..
A great information of Portugal!
Love your videos, thanks to you two we are turning 180 degree in our plans and making Portugal our retirement destination, we're pulling the trigger ASAP! I'm flying out after the first of the year to kick some cans around, we have a neice outside Lisbon, then Elsa (my wife and I are renting a villa next June near Lisbon on the coast for our 25th anniversary and bring our kids and grandkids to celebrate with us, we originally planned to do this in Santorini, Greece, after which we will move to Lisbon, rent an apartment for a year, get the lay of the land and then liquidate everything and make the move, time line, 2.5 years!
Thank you for your great and informative video's, your sincerity, confidence and great personalities are a joy to behold.
Christina’s pronunciation is beautiful! She sounds almost like a native, and could pass for Latina.
Aww, you are too kind! I am working so hard on the language, but I still have so much work to do!!! :)
I'm afraid you're quite mistaken, Alejandra Rodriguez. Your comment would have been correct if the "natives" you're referring to were Hispanic. In case you didn't know, the "natives" in Portugal speak Portuguese, a language that sounds nothing like Spanish, even if it has a number of words that are similar to Spanish. I mean this with absolutely no disrespect to Christina -- who, I am sure, is making an effort in learning the local language -- but she pronounced "Campo Pequeno" as she would in Spanish, but that is not the way that it is pronounced in Portugal.
@@miguelcoelho3877 This fantastic couple offered an informative video and shared an adorable joke about Christiana’s Portuguese pronunciation at 9:07. Don’t you agree?
Miguel Coelho, I'm afraid you're quite mistaken on this one, as it seems that maybe ...just maybe, Alejandra Rodriguez's comment was doing three things:
1) Affirming, in a very sweet way, what we all know to be true -Christina does pronounce many Portuguese words well…even better than Amon lol (which is why his joke was loving and funny lol)
2) Sharing a huge compliment that is encouraging to most language learners …to know that she/he has enough respect, interest and appreciation for the foreign language to try to pronounce words as if it’s your mother tongue/first language.
3) Referencing Latin America. I am a native-English speaker (meaning it’s my first language) but I am not from the UK, so her comment saying that Christiana sounds almost like a native-Portuguese speaker doesn’t mean that Alejandra Rodriguez was referencing the Portuguese dialect from Portugal. What about Brazil? I understand an apprehension about the word "native", which is perhaps why you've quoted it a couple times, but I think the complete term being referenced in this case was, "native-Portuguese speaker". If that's the case, then Alejandra Rodriguez’s comment is correct if she is referring to Brazilian dialect of Portuguese, which I think she was because she even said that Christina looks like she could be from Latin America (e.g. Brazilian). She didn't say anything about a couple of Christina's words sounding like Spanish but, rather, she said that almost all of Christina's words were pronounced well in Portuguese.
@@ronlee7912 as a portuguese (portugal consumes a bit of brazilian culture, so we are familiar with the accent), i can confirm that those pronounciations are not correct in neither brazilian portuguese or european portuguese (there are also african versions of portuguese, but besides the point). her pronounciation of "avenidas novas, estrela, campo pequeno, campo de ourique, belém, benfica" is very spanish sounding and while some pronounciations are passable (as in people will understand what you mean), especially with brazilian pronounciation due to the ammount spanish neighbours in south america, they are not accurate. a way to think of it is portuguese in europe diverged from spanish, while in the americas it converged with spanish. i want to emphasize that it's an admirable effort to try to incorporate sounds you've never dealt with in the past (and she is definitely making progress) and i fully support and encourage it.
Miguel's reply is a symptom of a historical portuguese rivalry with spain. our languages are close and related, but there are very big differences, which most people will point out, because it's frustrating as a portuguese to be constantly seen as a spanish province, especially in the anglophone world, when our history is based so much around keeping spain at bay.
@@ronlee7912 Well, that was some statement...
But I'm afraid you've gotten the wrong end of the stick, so to speak, regarding what I wrote in my comment. And here's why:
First of all, I wasn't being critical of Christina's effort in pronouncing Portuguese words, per se, I merely pointed out to Alejandra Rodriguez -- who I'm assuming is a Hispanic or of Hispanic descent -- the fact that she was mistaken in her remark. The terms "Campo Pequeno", in Portuguese, and "Campo Pequeño" (at minute 9:03 in the video), in Spanish, albeit identical in spelling and meaning, have a slight difference in pronunciation due to the tilde over the "n" in its Spanish version (that accounts for the nasal sound, as illustrated by Christina's pronunciation of it) which is inexistent in its Portuguese version. (Note that in Portuguese a tilde is never used over a consonant but only over the vowels "a" and "o" to change the pronunciation and the meaning of a word, as in, for example, "Roma", or Rome, and "Romã", Pomegranate). Since they are posting a video about their experience of living in Portugal, I did it for the benefit of their English-speaking followers, to try and dispel the deeply-rooted notion, seemingly still very much present in some people's minds, that what it is spoken in Portugal is either Spanish or some version of it. I'll admit that there are some similarities, which can be confusing for some people learning Portuguese, particularly to those who have learned Spanish as a second language, but I've done it with no intension of belittling their efforts. In fact, I can not but admire them not only for achieving financial independence at such a young age but also for sharing the experience online -- and all of that without a hint of ostentation or arrogance on their part!
Now, let's see some of the other points that you've made:
1) "[...] what we all know to be true -Christina does pronounce many Portuguese words well… "
Who is "we" in that sentence? Because unless you're a native-Portuguese speaker (or at least someone very fluent in that language) you are -- with all due respect -- in no position to make such a bold statement. I admire their effort in learning what is a very, very difficult language to speak/write well, but, as a native speaker myself, I know that assertion to be inexact. A good effort, with a doubt, but that's that. (Again, there's no intention, on my part, to belittle their effort). And another thing: I have only watched a few of their videos, so I have a very limited frame of reference regarding how good their pronunciation really is...
2) Point taken. But, again, my comment was addressed at Alejandra Rodriguez -- so, your point is somewhat moot...
3) (Yes, I do know what being a "native speaker" means).
" [...] doesn’t mean that Alejandra Rodriguez was referencing the Portuguese dialect from Portugal."
The Portuguese dialect from Portugal?!! Portuguese people do not speak a dialect of Portuguese. The Portuguese language originated in Portugal -- or, to be precise, in the northwestern region of the Iberian Peninsula that gave rise to the Galaico-Portuguese Language during the times of the Roman occupation of Iberia, and evolved throughout the middle-ages to become even more differentiated from what is spoken in Galicia nowadays (but still so close as to be mutually intelligible). The only dialect spoken in Portugal is Mirandese, which is a dialect of Asturian-Leonese, but like those, is dying out. (European languages are a very complex issue -- let's not be simplistic about it).
"What about Brazil?" -- Yes, what about it?!
That couple is living in Portugal, and my comment was made in the context of how Portuguese words are pronounced in Portugal, thus, your suggestion has very little relevance. I understand the if you're not from the UK, your first contact with the Portuguese language was probably through Brazil, but let me assure you that what they speak in Brazil is a very simplified (simplistic, even) version of Portuguese, where they changed the spelling of words such as, for example, "facto" or "fact" in English, to "fato" -- with that spelling, it means a man's suit, in Portugal -- which can be very confusing! In fact, I would strongly advise anyone intent on living in Portugal against learning Brazilian Portuguese, as it could be conducive to error -- to say nothing of the pronunciation!!
And this:
"If that's the case, then Alejandra Rodriguez’s comment is correct if she is referring to Brazilian dialect of Portuguese, which I think she was because she even said that Christina looks like she could be from Latin America (e.g. Brazilian)."
Not so! As I have mentioned above, that reference to Brazilian Portuguese, even used in the context of someone's hypothetical resemblance to a Latin American person (whatever that means), must not be taken at face value. Portugal has got already way too many Brazilians riding roughshod over the Portuguese language, in Portugal -- we don't really need more people adding up to the cultural melee. Anyone's welcome, but please respect our history, culture, and traditions -- that is what makes us unique!
And this:
"She didn't say anything about a couple of Christina's words sounding like Spanish but, rather, she said that almost all of Christina's words were pronounced well in Portuguese."
Well, that is true. But I did... for obvious reasons!
And yes, "almost"...
Now, this has been completely off-topic, and should not be in any way a reflection on this otherwise very well-presented video. Let's just hope the comment I've placed in good faith will not be the source of a completely unnecessarily lengthy debacle on the merits of one language over another!
Be well!
I was in Lisbon last August to celebrate my birthday and I love the city. I did hear that Nazare was a cool place to buy a house.
Lisbon is a beautiful city! Happy (upcoming) birthday!!! :)
I love Lisbon!!!! I love those pastries!!!!!!
Yes Angela! Those pastries!!!!
If that's the case, daily workouts would be a must.
Currently geohacking in S. Korea and after living abroad for a year I'm not sure if my family and I will ever repatriate. Your channel has opened my eyes to FIRE and the many possibilities for our future. Currently working an 8-12 year plan and Portugal has made it to our dream board for final destinations to consider.
Could you spell out the neighborhoods in Lisbon you mentioned? Can’t wait for the next episode!
We chose central portugal for all of the reasons that you mentioned in addition to you “con” that “it doesn’t have the same vibe as the big cities” being perhaps the part we liked most.
First off, thanks for all the amazing info you share, I'd like to know you guys' thoughts on two negatives about Portuguese housing that gets mentioned a lot: 1. is how cold houses/apts get in winter, and 2. the noise levels, from neighbors, but also dogs. Thanks!
For the winter months, it really depends on how well the house is insulated. Because it gets cold, you'll likely still want a house with a heater or a fireplace. But, if it's not insulated well - even with a heater or fireplace, the house can be just too cold! And noise level depends on where you live. In condos/apartment - noise can get loud. But, again, it depends on the construction! :)
Wow, if TV was still relevant, you two should definitely have your own show on the Travel Channel. Very nicely done, and the most informative video about living in Portugal that I've seen thus far. Organized information with definitive vs descriptive phrasing is key. I don't like when I'm looking for numbers, and other channels will say, "this is expensive, this is cheaper, this is reasonable". That tells me absolutely nothing. You two knocked it out of the park. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been waiting for it and y’all delivered!
Wow! So glad you liked it Ashley!
Yea I'm hooked too. What smiles and energy and just fun! Just a fun family. I sure loved my live at that age.
Christina - Such a pretty smile.
Thank you :-)
nah manly smile
I did not have a desire to buy a home in Portugal until now hahah! WOW! I am from the UK and homes like this at that price is a dream! I visited Lisbon some years back and LOVED IT! It was one of my favourite places I have visited. I think I would consider outside of Lisbon. Thanks for sharing this!
Did you feel that having an expat community was important as you got settled and transitioned to PT?
Have you been able to make Portuguese friends easily?
Thank you for all of our content. You are so loved by your YT community!!
We didn't think having a big expat community was big for us (since we were already used to living abroad). For us, we've found it easy to meet people and new friends here!
You will find the portuguese to be friendly but their inner circle is family. Do not take it personally if you are not ever invited to their homes.
I love this series - you've been so helpful! One of the reasons we did not choose the Algarve and Lisbon is it's geology. I live in the Cascadia Subduction Zone in the US and am tired of having to prepare for the next "Big One", which will make California earthquakes look tame. Think Japan a few years ago. Unfortunately, Lisbon has it's own subduction zone. I think the last quake was in the 60's. And south of Lisbon is tsunami territory. The geology north of Lisbon is more stable and less prone to big damage in an earthquake. And building codes in Portugal aren't necessarily up to US standards (and US building codes aren't up to Japan's standards.). So for us, North or Central is a much better bet in terms of safety.
you also Forgot to mention that in future when your children become Portugese citizens Then can go to any European College or University extremely cheap or even for free.
Great point! Thanks for adding!!!
You Pronunciation are improving quite well keep it up!!! I am learning a lot thru you guys.
With everything that's going on in America I don't blame you.
We're so happy we made the decision to retire here. :)
I'm visiting Portugal next week thanks to y'all. I'm excited about checking out Lisbon and Faro.
Cristina trying to pronounce the Portuguese areas is precious!! :D :D Top mark for effort!
Thank you! 😃 You are waaaaayyyyy too kind! My Portuguese is a work in progress! :)
Our Rich Journey Cristina, I’m a foreign languages teacher 😉👍🏻 Believe me, it wasn’t bad at all! Portuguese is not an easy language 😅
Hi Guys!
A girl form Central Portugal here, I can confirm that it's quite amazing! :D Now I am living in Lisbon, and I love it!
Really amazing journey you have!
Ps. It's hard to pronounce the parts of the city, so god Job! :D
See you around! :)
Is your daughter doing the, “Who’s Next?!” dance? 😂😂 “Go, go, go!”
Yes she is! We just had to put it in the video! LOL!
Christina and Amon, I love your videos and have purchased your courses. I am very grateful for your information in such important topics. Your videos are so much fun to watch with the 4 of you!!
I cannot wait to see what this series has in store! Question, how did your family make the decision to move abroad in relation to immediate and extending family? Grandparents, cousins, etc. what went into consideration?
I am originally from Minde, Portugal. I am currently in Winnipeg, Canada. We are known for deep freeze cold and large snowstorms. You hit it bang on with Nazare as your pick for the Central region.
I do have an alternative though, for those requiring a bit more ammenities while staying close to the ocean and beaches.
Leiria is just large enough to offer more ammenities, especillay for healthcare, sports, and education. Yet is still only half hour from the coast.
Given the option to come back, the Algarve is tempting, however i would choose Leiria for the affordability and the other reasons mentioned above.
All in, it does not really matter where you are as most locations are short day trips via either car, coach, or train. Get out there and enjoy.
“A huge reveal”!?! I know! You guys have already bought your house and you did on an episode of House-hunters International!!😬Which is one of my favorite shows, BTW.
@Terria Velez I just read your comment, searched google & RUclips; I can't find their episode of House Hunters International. If you have it, would you please share it? I'd like to see it. Thanks
Good guess!
fatou1975 No idea. Just wild-guessing. But wouldn’t it be funny if I was right?!😊
Interesting guess Terria! Stay tuned to find out what it is! :)
@@mosim9691 They can't reveal it until the episode actually is released, so you won't find it yet.
Thanks for another great vlog. I love watching vlogs highlighting information on Real Estate in other countries. I can’t wait for the big reveal. I am guessing that you bought a house near the coast in Nazare. The waves there are a beauty to look at. It’s like yoga for the eyes.🌁
Esther - I LOVE that - yoga for the eyes!!!! Stay tuned for the reveal . . . :)
Her voice is so warming! A real wife type of women
Wow! Thank you!
I live in Estoril and attended St. Julians school in Caravelles. My dad was US Naval Attache to Portugal.
Thanks for the insight given. After seeing those beaches in central and what you can get for your money, your really giving me food for thought. Come on Christina spill the beans lol. Ps that dance at 12:30 🤣🤣🤣
LOL! I (Christina) want to spill the beans so bad, but we have to wait! LOL!
YOU GUYS got rid of of a ton load of stress for me answered alot of some questions i had weather and affordability was big on my list and healthcare
You give me so much hope
Stay positive and motivated and you WILL get there Claryliz!!!
This is awesome!! Just found you- we're a full time traveling family and looking into residency options for the future. Would love if you could share your visa experience as well as getting setting into Lison- how you found the school for the girls, etc. Sounds like you guys are a wealth of info so thank you for sharing it with us all!
Thank you for a very informative and well thought out video. Can’t wait for the big reveal. Could you also discuss details about how you went about finding a property agent or did you do this entirely on your own. Thank you!
Yes! Thank you for that suggestion! We have a lot of info to share about property agents. We're planning on doing a video on agents as part of this series! :)
Great. Looking forward to it.
