Band-Maid´s genre is Band-Maid... It´s jazz, rock, hard-rock, punk, grundge, pop, blues, metal etc., they don´t care about the genre, they play what they like and what sounds good. They are just awesome and they are getting an HUGE push end this year and beginning next year. An Netflix movie-apperance, two songs are announced for an anime-intro song. I am so happy for them, they deserve it, they are REALLY hardworking ladies and always doing their best for the fans. Great band, awesome music and absolute role models for musicians! Thanks for the reaction and have a nice weekend!
Kanami(Lead Guitarist, main composer and main arranger) did punk rock when she was student. The drummer Akane started drumming by the influence from Maximum the Hormone(Japanese Loud rock).
Think late 90's, 2000's post-punk. Sub-pop stuff (Jawbox, OG emo, etx). That sort of discordant pop-tinged punk rock REALLY found its way into the J-Rock scene (AKFG, for example) and never really left.
@armynurseboy Dont Let Me Down and Real Existance are Full on Punk Songs by Band Maid. They can Play it all Thrash Metal, Prog Metal, Hard Rock, 90 ies Rock, Pop Rock Thats the reason Why they are soo amazing
The girl in the cuts relates to the theme of the song. The song is saying get out and do something, take a chance, roll the dice. The girl is in her ‘comfort zone’, and given how the blindfold, self inflicted. But as the song goes, she looks up, opens her eyes, turns toward the light, and finally stands, removes her blindfold, and steps toward the light. She’s rolling the dice with her life.
And the girl is Miku. She wrote the lyrics and it is and is meant to be taken as autobiographical. Many of her lyrics are like Anemone for example. Regards.

Dice is the first drug dose, a free sample to get you hooked.. And what a bliss this addiction is
At the risk of repeating what you have probably already been told several times - any of their live videos. They truly are at their best live and will often add things to the song during a live performance.
This band has rejuvenated rock for many people this year on youtube. To get the most out of the Band Maid experience: Misa (bassist): you listened to one, now listen to Play Live (from Zepp Tokyo 2018, better mixing) and Moratorium Live (also Zepp Tokyo 2018). You will have to go off of youtube for the better mix as the line cube shibuya show from 2020 did not pull straight from the boards but used ambient mics and poor MIsa and Kanami are drowned out some. Kanami (lead guitar, songwriter): Anything, but Onset Live really shows her skills. This should be your next reaction if you are going to continue with Band Maid as it shows off the raw musicianship of the entire band. Akane (drummer): Rinne (reincarnation). Watch the music video as there is no proper live performance recording on the internet. Freedom Live has an amazing solo from her. Miku (rhythm guitar, lyricist): she did not know how to play guitar when she founded the band in 2013. To see how far she has come under Kanami's tutelage watch Play Live from Line Cube Shibuya 2/14/2020 There are about 30 solid hits across their albums, with most coming from World Domination and Conqueror. A new single drops in December and a new album in January. "...it's so cool to see a girl shred like that...". Misa, Akane and Kanami aren't just the three best females in their instruments, they are widely considered to be some of the best if not the best in their instruments in the world. Period. Male or female.
They tap into so many genre's of music. I would suggest Freedom (Live) if you want to hear Akane go nuts with her Tama drum kit. Otherwise, Onset (live instrumental!), Play (Live) and the Rinne (MV, not the live. the live is only 2 minutes of the song). Enjoyed, have a good one.
Western fans of Band Maid (and other J-rock groups) have taken to one of two things when it comes to the lyrics. We either accept Saiki as a fifth instrument, or we go out and Learn Japanese..lol. Personally, I've taken on both approaches. I may look of translations for some songs but most of the time I just enjoy the music as a whole.
Cosplay here are Miku's words from an interview given in 2015 when she was asked about what type of band she had formed. Small pigeon replied "We are not a JPOP or an idol band. Please judge us only by our sound. Po!" They ain't JROK either unless you are just implying they are Japanese and they rock because that is the extent of it.
Your name says that you like it hard. Then you should listen to their hardest song.Rinne (Reincarnation) but the MV, because there is no corresponding official live video. Or "Real Existence" live 2018, where they show what a rock band can do on stage.
My personal favorite song from them is "Puzzle". But honestly they don't have a bad song. The ridiculous level of talent they possess should be illegal.
Saiki (lead vocals) has said she was tricked into joining the band. Early after Miku founded the band, they realize her vocals were too soft to front a Rock band. They asked their agency if they knew of any singers that could. The agency said they had someone, but felt she wouldn't go for the maid outfit or deal with Miku. Akane, MISA and Kanami auditioned Saiki and asked her to join. So for a couple (?) of weeks she worked with them. Then a day before the first gig, Saiki was told about the maid outfit and she met Miku!! Obviously she stayed, there is for sure a Rock Music God. For your introduction to Miku, react to the MV "Rock in Me" that includes Miku time.
To go on a different route with Band Maid, check out the live performance of Wonderland from Shibuya on 2/14/20! ruclips.net/video/x4hxLeHbqZo/видео.html
CHOOSE ME from the SHIBUYA concert has subtitles and THE DRAGON CRIES is sung in English and still has subtitles. I think there is also a version of DON'T LET ME DOWN that also has subtitles but I'm not sure how accurate they are I think it's an attempt to disguise the real lyrics that um, might not be to everyone's taste.
Another Japanese band for you "Unlucky Morpheus - Black Pentagram" They hit like a speeding freight train and just keep going, and they have so much talent it should be illegal.
They evolved and added sounds/genres to their compositions. But japanese bands aren't so structured and not afraid of experiment changes (as long as the record companies allow it). Their first album, in 2014 had a quite amount of punk/rock, pop/rock and couple of popy songs. Then in "New Beginning" 2015 is like their "transformation album", they presented the record company what they could do with harder and heavier sounds. Sometimes you'll hear classic/hard/heavy rock, all in one. Even speed metal. In 2016 album, "Brand New Maid", there's a real break-point. They changed to a bigger label record and was their first international released album. Also the first where the girls started to write/compose some of the songs. It gives more classic rock and progressive vibes. Another point of mature musical arrangements where every instrument tends to stand out more (unique guitar's riffs and solos, deep bass lines, insane drums fills, etc). Also jazzy and "Deep Purplish" and "Hellacopters" touches, ha! The most "western" album, in my opinion. In 2017 - "Just Bring It": A deeper and more complex album, in musical composition and lyrics. 90% of the songs were composed by the girls. Sometimes dark and progressive, sometimes heavier and liberating. Also with catchier and recognizable choruses. Each instrument stands out for itself more and more. The bass... oh the bass... Also, the mix is beautifully well done. A breath of fresh air in rock! This song is from the 2018 album, "World Domination ": For me, a 10/10 album. It has EVERYTHING! Rock: classic, hard, heavy, metal, industrial, alternative; grunge, speed metal, progressive; power ballads, pop, punk-rock... but very well assambled and distributed. The musical and vocal arrangements are delightfull. Not a single "weak" song, not a single more description, just listen and enjoy. The 2019 album, "Conqueror ", is said to be the best album to date by music critics (i love it! But i still prefer WD, ha!). Here is a more "passionate" Band-Maid's aspect, which is showed in the lyrics and the whole music songwriting. It's more mature and sentimental, even if you don't speak japanase, you can tell. There's constant movement between the well known hard/heavy and soft Band-Maid's sound, included even in a whole song. The beakdowns and time changing are notorious, sometimes shocking, but still well put and introduced. I insist on the arrangements: every time more complex and unique (for example, Wonderland). You can put this songs in 2 lists: very good songs in one, masterpiece songs in the other.

Okay, so there are a couple of all English songs. Older and dirty (as in raunchy) is Don't Let Me Down, fairly new and recorded in New York with a very famous rock producer is Dragon Cries. Both will be official videos. Enjoy!!!! 😉🤘🤘
New single on December 2nd. New album out in January. New record label Pony Canyon and the single Different will be the theme song of a new anime production for Pony Canyon a subsidiary of TV Fuji. The last sentence of every chorus here is "May l take your order." Sacramento absolutely loves Band-Maid. "Seize the moment!" Miku certainly did.
a great rocker. The creepy doll crap is about someone's (a girl) relationship with a guy who wouldn't commit, so she wrote him off as a lightweight who didn't want a real woman - only a love doll. Creepy doll never got creepy - but understand inklings of chucky . ha ha

Reactors trying to pigeonhole Band-Maid's music remind me of the parable of the blind men and an elephant.
Slippy6582 a Netflix movie appearance? Which movie so I can see it? Thanx
OMG that drummer !!!
GSpotter63 Akane is a beast on the drums plus the grin she has while playing is great
Band-Maid definitely has a punk rock element to their sound. It's not an insult to say so.
