That Maddy Prior voice: pure, ethereal - SUCH a wonderful reminder of how I met Steeleye Span, in the early 1970s via LPs, and used to wait with baited breath for new releases.
Maddy came down from the stage and danced up and down the aisles to stop the bouncers from attacking those of us dancing. I will remember that until I die. I loved her before that but especially afterwards.
As I have mentioned on other album sites, Peter Knight is the most under-rated fiddler in British/Celtic music, and I have many fiddlers to agree with me. Dowd's Favorite on Ten Man Mop says it all! I just hate that he still looks so young! =)

(is it right).. every emotion humen knows..i can hear it..ok the next great voice is annie haslam from renaissance..but every emotion transporting in the voice can only maddy...i don t like the word awesome..but here is it right..till the end of my life..i here and like her voice..........
Ho acquistato l'ultimo album degli Steeleye Span , E"wintersmith" dove c'è un brano intitolato "the dark morris tune" che mi fa letteralmente impazzire. E loro con l'aggiunta di nuovi musicisti sono sempre the best!!!!
+Michael Igoe yes great voice also fantastic song,, i forgot i made that comment, i was getting all poetic there i think lol,, thats the power of great and pure folk i guess!
That's a real nice version of that song. Both Luke Kellys and the Pogues renditions of the same song are definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
Some very nice playing but Peter Knight's introduction to 'Seagull' is one of those WTF? moments. I have played in bands where you have a musician who likes to make the audience feel uncomfortable as he does here and it's very unprofessional.
@@robotics1x Whatever it is about, the way he delivers the story is uninformative and uncomfortable. I saw Steeleye about 10 times in the 70s and I remember him doing other similar monologues. People are paying to see a performance and whilst I believe it's ok to be aggressive towards an audience in some situations, there is a resentful nastiness about Peter Knight that is not right in this context.
@@BlackWhirlies I know. "Do you want to know or not? up to you". Explanations of traditional songs by Maddie or any of them help give the background to the song. This song is not traditional, he wrote it. I'm pretty certain it has a different meaning and I did write to him to ask some time back but of course got no reply.
@@BlackWhirlies There are conflicting stories in it. Sure Penny could be a real penny as in shove-penny. But memories inside her? What is the gold watch about? All alone when counting the cost? Three in a bed? There's a sub-story about a polygamous relationship. Of course it's probably just my wild interpretation.

Lost in the joy of the soaring notes of Peter's violin. Joyous. Thanks so much for then and now.
Fantastic 2 of the best voices together!
Hark the Village Wait was a masterpiece - with the most stunning harmonies by Maddy and Gay Woods - fantastic to see them singing again in this vid
Maddy came down from the stage and danced up and down the aisles to stop the bouncers from attacking those of us dancing. I will remember that until I die. I loved her before that but especially afterwards.
One of the best bands ever, not only because Maddy's magical voice. The rest of the band are also phenomenal. Me loves!
Now watching it in 2023 in January. It’s great to watch.
Peter Knight was and still is a totally brilliant musician. Just a perfect fiddler.
As I have mentioned on other album sites, Peter Knight is the most under-rated fiddler in British/Celtic music, and I have many fiddlers to agree with me. Dowd's Favorite on Ten Man Mop says it all! I just hate that he still looks so young! =)
Wow......... great, great show........... sure wish I could find a clean DVD of it............
This concert is so different from most of their recordings, more traditionally folk. Gay Woods a very welcome return.
Wonderful, both Steeleye Ladies in one concert.
Loved these for ages...saw them at Liverpool Empire in '74(?)...no gimmicks,no costume changes and they can play...
Susan Perb....
Brilliant. Maddy Prior has an amazing voice...
Gay Woods compliments Maddy Prior's voice brilliantly. An excellent concert by the group, some really beautiful and moving songs

You put it perfectly.
Fantastic!
God must love me- I just discovered this..beautiful
I got tickets to them soon, can't wait. . .
gaye woods is excellent
But I wish she did her up-tempo "Lowlands".
The combination of Bob Johnson's and Maddy Prior's vocals surpasses any male-female duo I've ever heard.
Magnificent

Lowlands of Holland is quite moving.
Great to see Gaye and Maddy back together on stage.
Maddie prior is my spritual wife! and forever her voice will ring!
+Talons of the Raven That's nothing ... I'm spiritually wedded to Gay Woods... and I've got "Lowlands of Holland" morning, noon and night.
+Michael Igoe yes great voice also fantastic song,, i forgot i made that comment, i was getting all poetic there i think lol,, thats the power of great and pure folk i guess!
Talons of the Raven It was a brilliant comment ... makes complete sense to anyone who loves music :)
Michael Igoe thanks Michael. respect to you!
Talons of the Raven Guess she's a spiritual bigamist!
wonderful
Bardney...Bardney....Span always a favorite....
Amazing..
this is otherworldly. maybe a world i would prefer
Steeleye was always better with Gay Woods
Amen to that , she is the best Irish girl ever
indelible !
Have I missed a thingie?
Does anyone know the name of the opening song?
It is called "Gentleman Soldier"
Philip Labossiere Thanks a lot!
That's a real nice version of that song. Both Luke Kellys and the Pogues renditions of the same song are definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
Ben McEntee there was another version of this song by a band called’Jack the Lad’ off their album called Rough Diamonds 👍🏻
really, nothing on the pots and pans
Aint't happening. There are closeups of the drums, but no sound
tam lin woow
yes tam lin is a great song....specialy from steeleye span
Alas, the sound is barely coming through on my device!
Im not hearin any drums. Really nothing
Some very nice playing but Peter Knight's introduction to 'Seagull' is one of those WTF? moments. I have played in bands where you have a musician who likes to make the audience feel uncomfortable as he does here and it's very unprofessional.
That's because it's a cover-up. The song isn't about seagulls at all.
