About 37 years ago I made a similar crossing (from La Spezia to Ft. Lauderdale) in my dad's 63' motor sailer. The crew was me and 5 Itaians. It was an amazing experience. No sat-nav, just a compass and sextant. We sold the boat about one year later, but I still have the charts with our course plots, and the memories.
AS far as i know you have Yacht categories (Sailing yachts excluded here since most can with a decent size) from A to D and A means atlantic crossing is possible. They are longer than 40 feet and can take on waves of up to 23 feet. These boats can also take on strong winds of at least 47 knots. The others are really not for long distances on the open sea since they can't handle certain waves and as most know the fuel would be an issue. To ensure that the yacht is actually built correctly for trips over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, it should be certified by the International Marine Certification Institute as i learned. Its really interesting how much there is to learn in this area :)
Actually the keel blocks are placed by the ship’s crew before loading when the deck is dry. They are super heavy so we use a forklift to transfer them. And the divers’ job is to monitor if all the yachts are going to sit on keel blocks without any damage to the hull and also they put those orange supports underwater. Regarding the grey metal supports: the chief mate identifies the location of each yacht’s frame by knocking yacht’s hull with a small hammer and then makes markings for deckhands to install the supports. Only after those supports are welded. Unique plan for keel blocks and the supports is done for each yacht. And when the transportation is completed they cut all the D-rings, all supports, chip and paint the deck for the next loading and start rebuilding the keel blocks according to a new cargo plan. I know that because I’m the crew member being on board now :) I’m happy to answer any questions! Great video, can’t wait for the next one!

Good afternoon Super Yacht Captain, I am happy to discover your Channel, I am blown away by the share information & the content you produce, I am new here and loving it, great Videos, I will be a Super Yacht owner next year ( my plan ), so this is a wonderful eye-opener for me, Never knew they even had such a yacht service at all, WOW, and I certainly understand your explanation why use the Transport Service, get to your Destination safely, & continue the Awesome update on your voyage to the USA.

Just keep doing your thing, and recording it - we'll watch. Thanks. By the way, I don't mean that for this video's title, I'm only writing this here because it's your most recent vid.
Very interesting vlog Tristan. I know you are delivering AWOL to a new owner but can you say how & where are you going back to along with your future plans? Once AWOL is delivered what do you plan for this channel & do you have a new vessel to captain 👩✈️?
Question: Why dont you use a life jacket while taking a walk on the ship? I mean you could easily fall over and isnt it mandatory? My dad (a captain of a Bulk Carrier) always forced his seamen to wear a life jacket while walking/working on deck/outside.
Hi Tristan. Without giving actual transfer cost’s, does it cost more than a $1000000 or less. Very interested to know. Is it costed on vessel weight per ton etc, Cheers.
£1 million!?! An eighth of the cost of AWOL. In 2013 it was reported to cost £175,000 for a 120 ft vessel. In todays market you’d assume It’s about £200k - £250k.
Hi Tristan, thanks for keeping us updated on your progress across the Atlantic. I thought they would want all the yachts completely shutdown with all electrical supplies disconnected to stop any fires which could then spread between yachts. Am guessing this is not the case and all crews live on the yachts, oh well, at least it is home for you and your chef.

I dont watch any of your videos because I want to see your face. Easy on the camera swings, and less of your face will create a truly informative media piece. Save the facetime for mummy and daddy.

Thanks for the tour. I remember seeing Modern Marvels doing a bit on this type of thing years ago. Was amazed at the capability. The USS Cole was brought back from Yemen on a DOCKWISE I believe. People don’t realize that Money drives everything. Enough customers say “We will pay you this for this” boom someone’s going to fill the void. Cheers to you Captain and If I ever win mega millions I’d charter a yacht like AWOL for 3 months to see how I liked it.
So I kinda understand that rates are per foot of the yacht being transported and the destination? My question is is your systems electrical and water and black water, gray water all connected and can be dumped over board or do they connect to the ships holding tank. Also what about food do you eat in the ships mess or stock up your own vessel before departure? Then the next question is about trash if you provision your own vessel is there a place to deposit the trash. Are the Yachts allowed full fuel loads?
It is obvious from the services provided that crews are expected to be aboard. Can you comment on how may yacht crew members are present? Seems like this would be a good opportunity to network.
Why do the AC systems need to run while on the transport? You mentioned the water outlets for the yachts' AC system. Do people stay on the yachts while on the transport ?

I like watching your videos. But it’s time to lift your camera skills. If you are talking about something, point the camera at it for longer than you do. And look through the viewfinder - the shot of the seawater hose didn’t show much more than the bulkhead.
If you don’t shoot more of what’s around you, you may as well do your blogging in your bedroom.
Crook camerawork won’t stop me from watching, but it might stop you achieving greatness. ❤️
Good afternoon Super Yacht Captain, I am happy to discover your Channel, I am blown away by the share information & the content you produce, I am new here and loving it, great Videos, I will be a Super Yacht owner next year ( my plan ), so this is a wonderful eye-opener for me, Never knew they even had such a yacht service at all, WOW, and I certainly understand your explanation why use the Transport Service, get to your Destination safely, & continue the Awesome update on your voyage to the USA.
watched a show about the transport ship itself. it was approximately $100K to go from Europe to Florida if I remember correctly.
Ok, just an observation. Forget the dramatic click bait titles. What you do is more than interesting enough - enough of the right people will watch. Just keep doing your thing, and recording it - we'll watch. Thanks. By the way, I don't mean that for this video's title, I'm only writing this here because it's your most recent vid.
Good morning Captain Tristan....where how far are you now....internet bad?....some videos? Update time?
Very interesting vlog Tristan. I know you are delivering AWOL to a new owner but can you say how & where are you going back to along with your future plans? Once AWOL is delivered what do you plan for this channel & do you have a new vessel to captain 👩✈️?
So the crews who attend live on THEIR YACHT. Actually using the owner’s suite!?!😂🤔
Pay $100 million for a yacht and it can't even cross the Atlantic on its own. Sounds like a scam.
Great video! Perfectly explained. Thank you. Are you turning over command or staying aboard?
Question: Why dont you use a life jacket while taking a walk on the ship? I mean you could easily fall over and isnt it mandatory? My dad (a captain of a Bulk Carrier) always forced his seamen to wear a life jacket while walking/working on deck/outside.
Hi Tristan.
Without giving actual transfer cost’s, does it cost more than a $1000000 or less. Very interested to know.
Is it costed on vessel weight per ton etc,
Cheers.
£1 million!?! An eighth of the cost of AWOL. In 2013 it was reported to cost £175,000 for a 120 ft vessel. In todays market you’d assume It’s about £200k - £250k.
Do you not fancy a season in the Caribbean? I used to live in Grand Cayman and personally I don't think you can beat the Caribbean.
150 miles from a safe haven??? For $8m or $10m or whatever?? Fuk me that's a bit disappointing.
Are you headed to the Fort Lauderdale Yacht show? Also what is the name on the transponder to track AWOL on Marine Traffic?
OMG. How interesting your video is! I would love to be in your shoes!! I’d say it’s a very interesting job! Iv just found your channel and I’m hooked lol. Tks
Fascinating. I would love to see your ship in more detail. I bet those crew who cross with their ship on yours have some fun blowout nights!🙈😂
#Super Yachat Captain - Christain have You met ALL the Captains from All 12 Boats that are Aboard the Transport? And will WE be introduced to Each of them and Be told the Name of Each Boat and where they are from?
Did I miss something? Some comments here about the owner selling AWOL and what your plans are? News to me either way if you could speak to it that would be great... or do I have this all wrong. Hope so. Thanks.
Because you bought a Med Queen with maybe 1000 miles of range if you are lucky instead of a proper sail anywhere explorer yacht :P
Very interesting…..but why can’t you say what the Cost is …… it would very interesting to know how they charge ….Cost per meter etc ??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I will never be captain/owner of a ship/yacht. I do not have any interests in these video but I cant stop watching. Sometimes I have no idea what he's talking about but it's still very interesting. Good job man!
Fascinating.. One Dig though, why where you not wearing a lifejacket, hard hat, gloves, and hard boots when checking under the boat?
That looks like my dream job. I love to scuba, weld, travel. I'm a truck driver so I know how to secure loads. Everything I do rolled into one job. How do I get hired on from the states?
I’m surprised that you don’t have Starlink installed, worldwide internet. Is this something you will be looking into?
I got a recent quote to transport my 82' yacht from Fort Lauderdale to Genoa. A bit pricey.. $88K.
Do you redo the anti foul to the props ??? Or redo the Zinc's ????????????? while on this two week vacation out of the water ??? ..................... enjoy
Do you sleep in your regular accommodations or are you able to sleep in the owner's accommodations for a trip like this? Second thing, what are the sizes of the other yachts compared to AWOL?
Dockwise likely cost around 175-225k to ship the 120’ AWOL
How do you define a 'safe harbour'? 150 nautical miles doesn't sound like much of a cruising range.
You always post a interesting in informative video. Thanks for showing us around the yacht transporter. Great job!!!
Such a cool episode! Being on a boat on a boat. Do you use AWOL completely, as if it were sailing? BTW, we interviewed a couple yesterday who live on their yacht and I noticed they had a Super Yacht Captain coffee mug! Small World!
Verry interesting video cap 🤙. This is cap julio from bocas del toro, panama cheers🚢⚓
Love your videos,a question I have is do you sleep, eat, wash etc on AWOL during the Atlantic crossing or do you do that on the Yacht Transporter ?
So is Motoryacht AWOL still For Sale and is the New owner still looking for a Larger Ship to replace AWOL?
Suggestion. While your videos have very interesting content, it is massively dizzying when you continualy spin the camera around so that we have to see your face. I dont watch any of your videos because I want to see your face. Easy on the camera swings, and less of your face will create a truly informative media piece. Save the facetime for mummy and daddy.
Do you stay live on your Yacht or are there accommodations on the Ship for you. Dose your chef cooks or is there a ships galley for everyone. I am assuming you stay on the Yacht because the drinking water, cooling water along with the gray and black water discharge
How do they get the wooden blocks under the water and stop them floating. Surely a diver can't pull them down aloan? Thanks
Where is the chase boat?
where is the chase boat?
So I kinda understand that rates are per foot of the yacht being transported and the destination? My question is is your systems electrical and water and black water, gray water all connected and can be dumped over board or do they connect to the ships holding tank. Also what about food do you eat in the ships mess or stock up your own vessel before departure? Then the next question is about trash if you provision your own vessel is there a place to deposit the trash. Are the Yachts allowed full fuel loads?
I watched a documentary on Yacht Express, but It's interasting to see a prospective of a yacht capitan.
Welcome to my home. Would love to come out and see AWOL. Only about 30 minutes from FT. Lauderdale
It is obvious from the services provided that crews are expected to be aboard. Can you comment on how may yacht crew members are present? Seems like this would be a good opportunity to network.
Can’t cross an ocean, has to stay within 150nm of a safe port, no sat WiFi… that’s not a ‘super yacht’, it’s a glorified day boat.
Hey! We’re on there with you. Say hi to Julian and Michele on Chasseur. Safe travels.
Why do the AC systems need to run while on the transport? You mentioned the water outlets for the yachts' AC system. Do people stay on the yachts while on the transport ?
