- This is a look back on Fred Brown's career. Fred Brown was ahead of his time knocking down long distance shot before the three point line was ever around. Eventually being the league leader in three point field goal percentage once the three point line was apart of the game. His shooting and instant offense helped him earn an All-star appearance and become an NBA champion. All the while playing his whole career for one team the Seattle SuperSonics.

Fred Brown once scored 58 pts without a 3 pt line. That still stands as the Seattle Supersonics all-time record for most points scored by a player in a game. Had there been a 3 pt line he would have scored 65-70 points in that game. The Sonics beat Golden State 139-137, and Fred Brown made the winning shot from about 28-30 feet out at the buzzer in regulation. I believe the game was in 1974. He couldn't miss and could have easily scored even more in that game with a 3 pt line.

The late '70s Seattle SuperSonics were the forerunners to the late '80s Bad Boys Detroit Pistons. And Downtown Freddie Brown was their Microwave (Vinnie Johnson).
Such a stacked team. One of my favorites even if I wasn’t around to watch them. DJ, Gus, Downtown Freddie, Sikma, Silas, Lonnie Shelton and John Johnson. What a talented squad.
I didn't know that Vinnie Johnson was on Seattle in 1980 when Paul westphal was traded for Dennis Johnson

Grew up on the east coast and knew all about "Downtown" Freddie Brown. He was my favorite player of that era because he reminded me of the old man and all my uncles who could shoot from anywhere. They were once at a vacation retreat shooting jumpers from the balcony of the hotel hitting nothing but the bottom of the net. They were old dudes then, laughing, drinking and talking mad ish. Again they were shooting from a balcony a full basketball court away and I'm at the bottom catching the balls and throwing it back up to them like a gleeful ball boy. These dudes had families, jobs and were regular every day men shooting the lights out and I swear they never missed a single shot. This was the era that "Downtown" came from. He came off the pine letting it loose Sun! He was Steph Curry even before his Dad Dell Curry. I'm pretty sure Dell Curry would tell you "Downtown" was easily one of his all time favorites and he came off the pine. Back in the day you had better know how to shoot or you weren't getting any run I don't care who you were nor how well you could dribble or dunk. Pick and roll, give and go, let that thang go! Period!

"Downtown" Freddie Brown would dominate today's NBA with his 3 point shooting and had the 3 point exist in his prime, Brown would have score at 15 to 18K career points.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. I was finishing kindergarted when the Sonics won the championship.
