  • Gus Williams was one of the best guards of the late 70's and early 80's! He was an all NBA player, NBA all star, and NBA champion? Do you think he gets enough respect for his impact on the NBA? Inspired by ‪@pierrelynch4756‬ and with input by ‪@PoliticusRex632‬

45 years later STILL MY FAVORITE PLAYER ALL-TIME. Gus was criminally underrated
He was THE reason Sonics won a championship.. and they should have had 2 in a row. Leading Bullets 3-2 in finals the year before they won title. Hope Sam Schulman rots in hell for costing Gus a year. Gus was a steal at a million a year.. Schulman was an old codger, tight wad idiot. Even among Sonic fans he never got his full do. They always bring up the criminally OVERRATED SIkma or DJ. Gus was maybe the best no look passer ever... Especially on fast breaks. Way underrated passer and he was easily one of the best 'finishers' of his era

Gus had 10 steals in an NBA game

  • @PoliticusRex632

West and Wilkens' quote describing Gus' style was NBA management code for "He plays playground style ball." At that time, it was frowned upon by NBA execs who believed in presenting a more "refined" style of play. In today's game he'd be similar to Kyrie.

Growing up in the late 70's, I've always been a fan of "the Wizard". To this day, I have never seen a point guard dominate another point guard the way Gus Williams dominated Norm Nixon in both the 1978 and 1979 NBA playoffs.

GUS WILLIAMS MADE 58 FIELD GOALS IN THE NBA FINALS TO HELP THE SONICS WIN THEIR ONLY NBA CHAMPIONSHIP.
GUS WILLIAMS SCORED 145 POINTS IN THAT SERIES
COMPARE THIS TO CHAUNCEY BILLUPS WHO JUST GOT ELECTED TO THE NAISMITH BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME . CHAUNCEY MADE 29 FIELD GOALS WHEN THE PISTONS BEAT THE LAKERS IN 6 GAMES TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
CHAUNCEY BULLUPS AVERAGED PTS FIR HIS CAREER AND SHOT 41 % FOR HIS CAREER
GUS WILLIAMS AVERGAED 17 PTS FOR HIS CAREER ON 46% SHOOTING
CAN ANYONE CREDIBLY JUSTIFY CHAUNCEY BILLUPS AND MICHAEL COOPER BEING ELECTED INTO THE NAISMITH BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME THIS YEAR WHILE 70 YEAR OLD GUS WILLIAMS CONTINUES TO WATCH YOUNGER INFERIOR RETIRED PLAYERS ENTER THE NAISMITH BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME?

I met him through a former pro, John Lambert. Hey was a great guy. I played with him in the SF summer league. I was a fast small forward. He said damn you fast. You keep getting out like that and I'll see you every time. Been at his house a few times. Can't remember if I was at Skyline high or Saint Mary's college when we played together in the summer league, but eventually got drafted by golden state warriors. Thank you, Gus, for your inspiring words and mentoring. FYI, he didn't look fast because of his long strides but you couldn't catch him.

Dart you know damn well no one today respects the players of the past. They look at a guy from the 70s and call him a plumber, without having any knowledge whatsoever of the game. Gus like many others are disrespected legends of the past and its a shame.

From the Mecca (4th Street Playground Money Earnin Mount Vernon) to the HOF is where is where Gus's NBA journey should end. I saw him go 9-10 with so many steals in a quarter that Scarsdale only got the ball across half court 3 times in 8 minutes in a 29-1 domination like no other!

help Fred Brown get that ring after Fred was holding it down himself taking sonics into the playoffs multiple times, far too. Even after when they thought he was too old he was cooking for the Bullets and still help them to the playoff even with their Superstar Jeff Ruland injured most that season. Definitely underrated
