Alvan adams is before my time so I can’t descibe him from first hand knowledge. But I know he has a lot of suns records and he’s probably the most loyal suns player in history 🐐
That is a very underrated rookie year I didn’t realize how good he was right out of the jump. That might have even been more impressive than Magic being the finals mvp in his rookie year considering he actually was the best player in the series (over Cowens , jojo). Magics game 6 was historic but I think Kareem still played the best of everyone in the finals of 1980.
Adams had a great all-around game. His only real "weakness" was that he was under-sized for an NBA center and he was frequently pretty banged-up from trying to guard players 50 lbs. heavier every night. He was a terrific high-post center, and probably as good a passer at center as anyone in the league, including Bill Walton. He was a good shooter, good rebounder, and good defender, but between John MacLeod's system where the starters didn't play big minutes, and having Paul Westphal and Walter Davis, Adams's didn't really need to score big numbers. But he did continue to contribute in just about any way conceivable. He's certainly one of the forgotten starts of the franchise, having been the lone All-Star on the 1976 Finals team. He retired as the Suns' all-time leader in minutes, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals.
I loved those old *Basketball Digest* magazines, they were very informative and entertaining to read. *SLAM* magazine cant hold a candle to it. I still have a large collection of those *Basketball Digest* mags.
Went to the same Jr High, with Alvan. I was in 7th grade, he was in 9th. Use to watch [most] all of his games (Hefner Jr High, OKC, OK), it was about 1967. Wow, that gymnasium was LOUD. Alvan was totally undefeated for our Hefner Vikings! He went on to Putnam City HS and probably had an undefeated season there, too! (I had moved to Vian, OK, by then). After that he played for The Oklahoma Sooners (I bet he was undefeated there, too)...What an amazing player! I remember him walking down the hall, 40 other students following him, he looked back at me about the same time I was thinking, 'WTF..?'. I thought he was going to come back [there] and slap me, or something (one of those 'Freshman' things). Ha, ha (he didn't). I was impressed, though. Awesome-ism...I had never witnessed it before. I guess everyone kind of modeled themselves, like him. Look at him. Incredible. Nice video, Supermariohoops24 🍧🍧
They were thrilling games this year especially the g5 finals he mentioned, but it would be more about defense than offense like how today is the opposite
Nice video 🔥🔥 I’m just wondering how did you find the game scores for players of the games in the 76 finals because they only go back toward the mid 80s
Thanks bro 🦾 And I calculated each game separately through the game score formula, but I didnt include turnovers because they werent counted back then. The only way Cowens in games 2-6 would have a better game score than Adams is if the turnover descrepency was more than 3 in those 5 games on average (which it wasn't lmao)
Bill Walton and Arvydas Sabonis are the best passing centers I have seen. Alvan Adams was a very good all around player. I still have that Sports Illustrated from the 6:20 mark.
I didnt think about it like that with the ayton role comparison but thats fair. If you put adams in todays nba he would be even better. Hes big and strong like Embiid, can protect the basket like gobert, move his feet like bam or robert williams and can pass like jokic with a soft touch shooting. Would'nt say as good as all them in those parts but he can do everything at a high level.
Great video. Double AA was overshadowed by Paul Westphal and Walter Davis but was a solid player. Unfortunately Kareem seemed to always have the upper hand on him.

Great video 🔥
Keep on grinding
I went to grade school with him
Banger 🔥
I wish i could go back and watch this nba (and the aba too)
They were thrilling games this year especially the g5 finals he mentioned, but it would be more about defense than offense like how today is the opposite
my old man always said that the guys who were too big for AA to guard were too slow to guard him
Fabulous!

@@Supermariohoops24 oh alright makes sense thank you
Wes Unseld was the best outlet passer ever. Alvan Adams was the best passer in a set offense I have ever seen. Maybe should have played forward.

That stat at 3:30 is pretty insane ngl

Truck Robinson too.
What’s sad is his role kept getting reduced every season. As a #1 he could’ve put up ludicrous numbers.
Phoenix has had insane talent over the years and just never quite win it all.
Keep it up
Cool
