Rugers are like Honda Accords and Toyota Camry's. Everyone wants a BMW or a Lexus but everyone buys the Accords and Camrys and loves 'em! I know from experience as I own 4 Rugers and LOVE 'EM!

mark g -ABSOLUTELY! The average self defense encounter occurs in the 5 to 7 yard range. If you can’t hit your aggressor at that distance with a $300 Ruger/Taurus/High Point/etc, a $700 Sig isn’t going to make any difference. The best handgun for self defense is one that you are comfortable with, fits your budget, and you actually take to the shooting range.

I have a glock 26 x grip for better control and more ammo. I go to the range almost twice a week. I love it until I bought ruger src9. Straight out of the box, First time I shot it, I knew I like it more than my glock. A year later with it, now my accuracy is better than the glock

Dude, your comparison makes sense. People always shop for *VALUE* rather than highest quality -or- lowest price. Most bang for the buck, pardon the pun. My conceal carry pistols are a Springfield Armory XDs & a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield, both are 9mm. Love 'em both.
p.s. i drive a 2015 Honda Accord and, yes, i love it! At 38.6mpg (highway and street driving) with unmatched reliability, i made the right choice. It also has the highest resale value and drives beautifully. Yeah, i can indeed afford a BMW ("Big Money Wasted") but the Accord is a *far better value* for my car dollar.

Evan, just happened upon your video...It's been a lot of years since I was in your area...I remember the original shop on the lower level backside of Paula & Ron's home...I worked many hours in that small back room tuning up Smith & Colt wheel guns...Some of my greatest memories were of the Saturday morning pawn shop hunts with Ron to find unusual firearms & watches...Also the crow shooting in the backyard...What wonderful and lasting memories...One thing that I carried away was when Ron pulled me aside for being critical of a prospective client with these words, "Everyone has to be somewhere"...GOD BLESS you, your family and your wonderful contribution to the firearms community...

Keven, I have to ask, have you ever had problems with different brands of ammo? For instance, my gun hates anything Winchester. One fail to eject after another. As long as I stick to Federal, Am Eagle, Blazer and S&B brass it works. I've also good luck with the other foreign brass like Perfecta, Wolf etc. The big problem I had with those brands is volume. Some cases hold more than others. That causes big changes in pressure. I've had a little experience with Remington, and it seems to work fine, but I haven't shot enough of it to really tell.

Jim Vandemoter. I like and own ruger's myself going back 20 years. But a few years ago I bought a new Ruger SR 45. Took it to the range and very first round that I fired through it the magazine fell out. Snapped the magazine back in and fired again and the magazine dropped out . every single round that I fired the magazine dropped out. I called Ruger about it and they said they had never heard of that!?.. but i had to send it back to them. but then I went on the internet and looked up that problem and found out on a forum that lots and lots of other people had the "exact same" problem with the SR 45 going back to 2006 through 2014. It seems that Ruger knew there was a problem with this gun but never addressed it. Ruger today it's not the same Ruger of many years ago. some guys in our Gun Club have moved away from Ruger because of their quality control now. I recently had a problem with a new Ruger AR-15 I bought and when I called their customer service they were sort of rude about it. so I didn't even mess with them I just tore it down and found the problem myself and fixed it. but that doesn't mean that I won't buy Ruger anymore they make a good product I just think their quality control is down just a tad

    • @jimvandemoter6961
      @jimvandemoter6961 6 лет назад

Russell, I haven't shot a SR 45, so I haven't heard of the problems you describe, but I have spent some time with a SR 1911. That gun just works. It's as nice was any stainless 1911 out there and priced accordingly. My first Ruger was a 22/45 bull barrel I bought about five years ago. Fun gun to shoot, but taking it apart and putting it back together was a nightmare. I didn't have it long. I have made two modifications to my pistol, I took out the mag cut off part, it's an easy mod, and I put in a Ghost inc.ultimate 3.5 trigger. It made the trigger a little lighter, but mostly it shortened the reset. Both of these mods are easy to do, you could probably do it yourself. I know Sootch00 made this same mod to one of his guns, he mentioned it in one of his replies to me a while back. Sorry to hear about your problems with Ruger, maybe someone will read this and take it to heart.

Just thoroughly cleaned it last night with my instructor for the first time and it looks and feels better out of the box . He said I made the right decision. I also was given a glock for x- mas ( not yet out of box ) . He is a instructor for glock also. His take on both is that they both are great guns and the Ruger is right on for the price.

Very interesting video. Really informative to see what the majority seems to be buying. Friend bought the Taurus G2C, and let me shoot it. He paid $200 on sale in Indiana in August, 2018. Trigger pull not ideal but short reset. Rear sight adjustible. I was impressed. Tried racking S&W's 380EZ in gun shop, and easiest gun I've ever racked. Great for old folks.

With it I DID get an extra (3) mag and awesome grips but as far as a shooter... the FNS is great but buddy's SD9 was an awesome shooter as well! I'd go SD over GLOCK anyday.

Why do people seem to think that because a gun is more expensive it is automatically a better firearm. If the gun is made from quality materials and assembled by competent workers, functions reliably and is priced right, it is a good deal. Ruger excels at such things, if they didn't they would not be so popular. People need to ask themselves what does the $1000 gun do that the $450 gun doesn't. Does it make the bullet faster or better in any way. Does it feel better. It might but that has no bearing on price. Some people get their feeling all wrapped up in the brand of firearm that they own and take it personally when you tell them you prefer your brand over theirs. I have shot rugers that run like a train and shot glocks that had feeding issues. It could have easily been the other way around. I've seen it both ways. My point is if I can get a quality firearm at a reasonable price that's what I'm going to do, not go buy an expensive one because I think it's better because it cost more. Then I'm going to shoot it, alot,, to see if I made a wise purchase. Well that's my two cents anyway.

I carry a tarus g2c 9mm as my conceal carry weapon and it shoot flawless 2000 rounds in no issues at all. But i had to replace trigger , replace recoil spring and polish debur the entire pistol myself, about 6 hours of work + tools if you dont already have them vise, hammer, punches, files belt sanders lathes ect.
You pay for time machining (QUALITY OUT THE BOX) not saying there bad guns (cheap guns) but they need additional attention to be better. Thats why 600-3000 dollar guns are that much attention to all the little details

What's selling best absolutely does not equate to the best firearms. People are just cheap and want to own a handgun just to own one, they don't ever bother to go to the range, shoot it, clean it, read the manual, or even take any classes on self defense/shoot don't shoot scenarios.

Some of what you say is true. I’m at the range twice a week, it’s my sport. Practice is paramount with firearms. Especially if you conceal carry. You do not need to spend $2,500 on every firearm you own and shoot. I have several off the top shelf and I have budget guns. I do set limits on how cheap I’ll go. My 5 shoot NAA is my least expensive. I don’t believe you have to sacrifice hard earned money to get a reliable gun. I enjoy shooting my LC9s, XDS, or my GSG M1911.

I do shoot in competitions occasionally, but that is no place for a budget gun. I think we are like minded in some ways. Everything has its place. Those who own, should get out and shoot. Not everyone can afford or even look at what people like us see in firearms. BTW the Shadow 2 is a nice piece 👍. I do like variety. I respect your choice of staying on the top shelf but that’s not realistic for the majority of gun owners. I do frown on stuff like the SCCY that I see at ranges. I’ve seen one loose a part while the guy was shooting it. Those manufacturers need to be stopped. I want to go home safe after a day of shooting.
Keep shooting and stay healthy and safe out there. It’s good to hear from a serious sportsman.

It's an LC9s with milled in sights and a cheaper black oxide finish instead of bluing... I have an LC9s and that is one of the best firearms I've ever owned, but let's be real here. Ruger says it stands for "everyday" but it really means "economy". They had to drop the price of the pistol because being 10 or 20 bucks cheaper than the M&P Shield 9mm didn't make it competitive enough.
I was a firearms salesman up until the end of last year. I sold both of them for a long time, and you obviously know I prefer the Ruger. I lost a LOT of sales on a gun that I could talk up all day because the Shield came with a 2nd, 8 round magazine... that's it. People could justify spending 10 or 20 more dollars to have that 2nd mag outright, although (IMHO) the LC9s is the superior pistol. Ruger was smart to make the LC9s cheaper, it's an amazing gun, and with a lower price I'm not surprised to see it smoking the Shield as it rightfully should be.

I own several Ruger guns and I never have no issues with them at all. They are a very reliable gun. Tried a Smith & Wesson 40 caliber couple years ago and that gun sucked. Took it back the very next day so I just stay with Ruger. Rugged reliable firearms.

The ruger security -9 is an ok gun but I wouldn't put as #1. I've seen other videos, where other gun owners having trouble with this pistol. Especially, the manual thumb safety with other issues.

Yet I don'ta Bersa in the lot...
It's the cheapest priced pistol I own. But, the one I shoot the most even being a .380 with rounds being a bit more than the 9mm.
I've put about 1000 rounds through that little bastard. In less than 6 months.
    Just a sweet shooter.
