Easy Guava Cake Filling Recipe

  • This is one of my old time favorite fillings for a cake. You can make guava paste homemade if you can find guava's easily but for those of us that can't find them, guava paste is the next best way to make this cake filling.
    I will post a recipe in the website but I usually prefer to stay basic and just melt the guava paste with water. It's easy and fast and doesn't change the flavor. I explain in the video different ways to work with the paste and problems you might encounter.
    I used Condensed Milk Buttercream with this cake but it tastes delicious with Cream Cheese buttercream. You can use your favorite cake. I have a few recipes I use for it and I will post all the links below.

      Siempre recuerda que tu controlas la consistencia añadiendo el agua. Siempre cambiara un poco dependiendo de el tipo de pasta de guayaba que uses.

    Te agradezo tu explicación. Me ayudó ayer el truco que diste de enfriar el pastel antes de ponerle la jalea encima. Sin embargo, creo que no es necesaria la idea de machacar en licuadora la pasta es muy tedioso. Es tan sencillo hecharle 1 cucharada de agua en el micro 50 segundos y revolver y 40 segundos más si necesario y rectificar agua según resultado. Gracias!!! Eres la única que puso un Totorial de guayaba.

      Yo uso el microondas tambien sin problema pero hay gente que no tiene microondas o no le gusta usarlo y por eso tengo que dar otras opciones. 😁😁

      Basically, the dulce de leche is Condensed Milk that is been boiled for hours. They sometimes sell it already like that in supermarkets.
      Place the cans, unopened, in a medium-sized pot. Pour in enough water to cover the cans, plus an inch. Cover the pot. Boil over low heat for 3 hours, rotating the cans every half hour to cook uniformly, and adding water as it becomes necessary to maintain the cans covered, (or 35 minutes over low heat in a pressure cooker, counting from the moment it starts to whistle).
      Remove the cans from the water and cool them to room temperature (this is a must, as it is a safety issue). Once cooled, remove the lid, pour the fudge into a bowl, and stir to obtain a smooth cream.

      @@Sweetsandthings Medium heat and just add the heavy cream to the consistency you like. I haven't measured it. I might have too.

    Ms. Edna, can you fold a small amount of this (once warm and not to stiff of course) DIRECTLY ‘into’ a SBC or whipping cream for a ‘lighter filling’?
    I know I can try it but wanted to see your take on that or if you actually had tried it before I purchased the paste.
    That would be the application I want it for.

      Oh yes, you can also use Bettercream and make it more mousse style if you don't want the butter flavor on it. Bettercream is a non dairy stabilized whipped cream.

    Can I make it in advance? If so how many days maximum?

      You can bake the cake and place it in the fridge for a few days. Do make sure to seal it well so it doesn't dry. I tend to ice it and finish it the day before the event.

    When using the Guava paste warming it makes it spreadable, but as it cools does it not take on that rubbery texture again?

      That's why you add the liquids to it, to make it less hard. But adding too much liquids can make it too soft. The recipe is open to your own preferences.

    how long does this last for in fridge or at room temp?

      It stays well out of the fridge for a few days. Guava paste can last in the fridge for 12 months. If it's in a cake then, of course, it won't last as long since the cake might get dry.

      You can add a bit of water to it to soften the paste, it depends on what you prefer but, keep in mind, that you don't want to make it too soft as it can make the filling too slippery.

      @@taneshapitts4973 That's what I am saying. It really depends on the one you buy. If it's hard, then it will be a bit hard so add a bit of water to it when you heat it so it becomes softer. Remember you need to let it cool down before you place it on the cake. So if it's not spreadable then it might need more water.
