Thats us here in the philippines. I’m kinda thankful for shein and fast fashion, its one of the reason we can have nice things. My clothes from shein have lasted me years now since i handwash them.
And not to mention, health problems like with your shoe example😐 As a result, I had bunions, constant foot pain and swelling… I finally had surgery to fix my feet… co pays, income loss from not being able to work for 12 weeks is not worth it… nowadays, I only buy quality comfort shoes.

Hair and skin care are those "learn as you go" things. What works for one doesn't work for another. As an Asian person, I only go to Asian hair stylists. I've gone to many different people and found she's the only one I've seen who's given me what I want.
As a former hairstylist - research; especially, now that most people are on social media, and many have reviews online, now, also. I charged $40 for a woman’s cut, about 11 years ago, before I became disabled - and I still have people tell me, a decade later, they wished I still did hair; as I gave ‘em one of, if not the best, haircut they had ever had. However, with the time I took - I shoulda been charging AT LEAST $60-$75. $160 seems a bit steep, though, more than likely, it includes tip; and she, obviously, had it styled - which, is an upcharge, also.
I think this rings true for a lot of things such as, equipment, appliances, craft supplies, product, etc. all because if you get the cheap one and it doesn't work or breaks easy, as they often do, you're spending more money in the long run to replace them or them.
My visit with my hair dresser is truly my indulgence. I am willing to shop thrift stores for some clothing items in order to afford a morning at the hair dresser monthly. After a cut, dyeing eyebrows, curling hair, and waxing brows, I walk out, looking and feeling like a whole new person.
Find the hairstylist who does what you want, and stick with them! Cheap applies to clothes, too. Just because it's expensive, doesn't mean it's quality.😊

Boots. I kept buying cheap boots from Wal-Mart and my toes were wet and cold. I bought slightly better boots from JCPenney and my feet felt better and I still have them for next year.
And an at-home tea tree oil is A LOT cheaper, than doctor appointments and Rx’s. I had a severe infection, for years - and was able to get rid of it, with a couple of soaks, using tea tree oil. Even went to a podiatrist - twice. He was willing to cut out part of my nail - though, never even mentioned I had an infection (I felt foolish for not realizing sooner - being a former cosmetologist). My large toe that was painful, infected, super thick, damaged almost all the way down to the cuticle - now, is somewhat normal looking. Turpentine (pine spirit gum) is, also, great for treating infections, such as this. I rarely get pedicures - partially, for this reason. My cousin got an infection, from a pedicure - and it ended up going to her heart, requiring a drainage tube.
To be honest, this is a great example of financial advice being out of touch. For most people, if you get a bad haircut, you might need your $300 for a car repair, so you just have to wait until it grows back, and find clever ways to style it in the meantime.

You can go quite a bit cheaper and still get a decent cut. If it’s not quite right you can ask for them to fix it or see if it looks better after growing out a couple weeks. Coloring and bleaching is where you shouldn’t try to skimp
this is true. i went to a cheap hair salon for a haircut and they ended up ruining my hair. i didn't even know how uneven it was because they washed my hair and didnt' dry it!! so i paid for it... i did end up getting a refund, but it's not even the cost of the new haircut, it's also the mental and emotional anguish from this ordeal. i cut my own bangs now and dont get my hair cut as often... i can't imagine getting something injected into your skin and that getting screwed up. also... why i will not ever be getting a tattoo

In your current financial situation, it is totally worth it for you to spend $160 on a hair cut, as one bad haircut with two or three corrective cuts would cost that if not more. Love the style!
An expensive haircut/style in no way implies it will be a guaranteed job-well done. Coming from a former hairstylist, who still has people - over a decade later - telling me they wish I still did hair, because it’s one of, if not the best, haircuts they have ever had. And I charged $45 for women, and $35 for men, in Los Angeles (granted, that was over a decade ago; and I wasn’t properly charging my worth. I don’t know if I’d have been comfortable charging $160, however).
I completely agree. My grandmother bought really cheap shoes that only last 6 months before needing to replace them again. But in the end, messed up her feet and now needs orthopedic shoes.

I think that mentality is how you stay poor. I grew up poor and what people have to learn is that when you have very little, it becomes important to learn what to spend a lot on, and what to spend nothing on. For example, my bed frame was $300 but I have never paid for an Uber or gotten food delivery in my entire life. Life isn't fair, so you have to plan and be smart about how you play your cards.

I went to Cost Cutters and the woman gave me short, random layers in the back. My hair was 1 length. I didn’t want layers. I didn’t know I had layers back there until I went to work and my coworkers told me. I went to Regis for a while until it grew out. I was going to Panache and they couldn’t get me in, so I went to Reflections which seemed like Panache, but I got a good haircut followed by a meh haircut followed by a woman who parted my hair in the middle and chopped it off between my chin and my shoulders and gave me layers and curled my hair like Umbridge. I had long, curly hair parted on far left and 1-length and I told her I part my hair on the left and I don’t want layers. I went back to that salon to try to fix it. They parted my hair on the left and tried to even it out. I switched to Aveda. I’m still growing my hair out a year later and every other month try to get rid of more of the awkward layers. It looked like a chunk was missing from the right side of my hair in back. I don’t know why it has to be difficult.

Also it helps motivate you to work harder for goals that seem impossible in your current circumstances. I’m not saying things should be expensive but when you’re investing money into something such as beauty or even equipment you want to invest in something that is worth it’s value, and will provide you with more benefits than having to settle for less.
When it comes to tools this is my view. I'll only buy a tool twice, the first time I'll typically buy the cheapest one I can find that gets the job done. If I find that I use the tool a lot, then I'll splurge and buy something high end that will last forever. This way I get to learn how to use a new tool and experiment without risking damaging something expensive, if I find out I don't get much use out of the tool then I didn't waste a bunch of money, and a lot of the times a cheap tool from harbor freight is 80% the way there, and with a little love can be brought 90% the way there. If it's something that I know I will get good use out of it, then generally I'll go straight for something I know will last.

How short IS it? How much do you hate it? How much are you willing to spend? Bc you can always get extensions or a really nice wig(s). Not cheap, but it will cover the short while it grows if you have enough $$ and hate it THAT much. Or just get a better short cut for your features and let it grow.

Yeah, I'm a pretty good saver on a median income. I paid $35 today for a Hair Cuttery cut and look just fine. Better advice for the average Joe is get the better garden hose, so you don't have to buy one every year.
Haha so true! I’ve been through this w garden hoses 😂 much more relevant to me than $160 hair cuts…but then, nowadays most people don’t have the luxury of a garden 😢

Bc you can always get extensions or a really nice wig(s). Not cheap, but it will cover the short while it grows if you have enough $$ and hate it THAT much.
Or just get a better short cut for your features and let it grow.
