The important part here is the loans from Japan were variable rate. Meaning even if your loan was 5 years old and was taken out at low to no interest, it suddenly got interest. So it’s a big change, even if the rate is actually still low
@@Kingofthehill84doubtful, Japanese banks are risk adverse won't easily lend money, which is one reason why the BOJ made negative rates. Now they're charging interest it'll make lending even more difficult.
When I was stationed in Japan in the early 80s the Dollar and Yen fluctuated wildly. Japanese workers working on the Air Base I was stationed at were paid in Yen. There was a period when the only person on Yokota Air Base who made more than the Japanese gate guards was a 2 star General. A trip to McDonald's (there was one about a half mile from the main gate) for my family of 3 would have set me back almost $30! Needless to say we didn't eat at Golden Arches for a while.

@Selsigs I think you’re totally right. And I don’t know that it’s so much a rich and poor thing as it is a. How do I put this? It’s more about people who don’t have any business dabbling in this kind of business getting their hands on money to do this. it’s the same kind of person that does a lot of buying homes subject to and hard money, etc. because they’re trying to flip them so fast and debt never catches up to them. They’re not necessarily poor, but they’re not really rich either. And I didn’t take it if you were trying to argue with me and I’m not trying to argue with you either. I think it’s some extremely rich people, and then some people that are opportunistic leeches if that makes sense. And frankly, neither category should be allowed to borrow money to go gambling with.
@Selsigs and here’s the crazy part. I’m a hard-core right wing capitalist. To me though this is not capitalism. This is manipulation of system. This is no different than gambling. Ism is supposed to be somebody that has a trade, a skill talent, and they go and take that trade skill or talent into the marketplace, and exchange their abilities for whatever they can exchange it for. This is just complete lazy a holes trying to game the system. And then they’ll get online and have the nerve to tell us how we’ve gotta learn how to grind.
You're absolutely right. This kind of nonsense that really has no solid economic value needs to be put a stop to. It's the same kind of crap that contributed to the stock market crash of 1929. "Buying stock" on borrowed money. It's playing with fire 🔥
This bullsh*t about INVESTING with LOANS lies behind pretty much all stock market crash in recent history. The Great Depression, the Dot Com crash, the 2008 housing crash all have echoes of risky investments backed by debt. History just repeats itself here, all the same.
The rich call it “leverage” and think it’s a positive thing. It’s what turned Dave Ramsey into a common household name because he used leverage as a young man and learned the hard way that there is risk involved.
"Buying stock" on borrowed money is part of what lead to the stock market crash of 1929. I believe this kind of thing needs strongly regulated. It can lead to terrible things and bring down everything.
I personally hope Japan keeps doing this because my hope is that it'll eventually force America back on the right track and if that means that we have to go through another Great depression so be it maybe I'll get people to pull their heads out of their butts and get the government under control
Sounds like Warren Buffet had to liquidate some of his holdings to pay for his spread trades in Japan which is one reason he is holding so much cash right now.
Nah. No need to speculate and look for a billionaire to demonize. He's holding cash, earning interest, and is waiting for a correction in the stock market so he can buy shares of good companies.
@@jh4yt1008he isn't demonizing. He's speculating. Also, it is at the very least strange how he was able to pull 10s of billions out right before this flash crash
@jh4yt1008, there's no need to "look" for a billionaire to demonize. They demonize themselves with simple logic. You can't obtain 1 billion dollars with your own labor, which means especially in order to obtain multiple billions you have or continue to do unethical and possibly illegal shit to continue making and hoarding profit. In the USA, over 90% of the wealth is held by 1% of the population, and there is a massive issue with that. That wealth disparity is worse than the pre French revolution, no one thinks the way the monarchy was spending pre French revolution was ethical or moral. They were also wealth hoarding, but it is WORSE now. That is the issue. There is not a single billionaire who is ethical or has earned their wealth. No one deserves a billion. No one can earn a billion.
