Jamel, for years I thought I was the only one of a select few that understood what a gem this song truly is. I would bring up "Ramble Tamble" in conversation and their reaction was "Huh?" I even talked to a great guitarist I knew at a guitar store and he had no clue what I was talking about. This song is the song I listen to when life became almost unbearable. It has the capacity to recharge my motor and let me know that if I can persevere through a current situation, life will soon get better. And now that my passion besides my music, is riding my road bike, this song is my constant companion and helps me when the wind is in my face and fires me up when the wind is at my back. A truly great song and a song that I continue to thrill to as I recall that my father introduced me to "Cosmos factory when I was a wee lad. God bless my friend.

You were not alone brother, Ramble Tamble is THE song off CCR. I hear all the influences there, even a bit of Jeff Beck in the middle instrumental, but the whole package, band kickin absolute ass, John's vision and driving guitar licks, phrasing, the whole thing is like nothing on earth..............

@ Jesse Lobo Yes . I call this CCR’s Stairway to Heaven . It is just as good or better than the Zeppelin classic but not as well known . Yet this song transcends its genre . In it you can visualize the Dust Bowl and the plight Of the Oakies , the Great Depression , John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath, on and on . It should be in all Music Appreciation classes that showcases great American composers like Glenn Miller , George Gershwin , Aaron Copeland , John Phillip Souza , Stephen Foster , heck even Stephen Sondheim . Ramble Tamble is an Americana Masterpiece.

In the comments to your reactions people will mention, "what a nice guy you are", "what a gentle soul you are", etc... yet no one really got to the heart of it. So I guess this 69 yr old white guy will.
Considering your childhood (based on little things you revealed during your reactions) many people (both Black and White) took the "wrong" path in life and used the adversities of their childhood as an excuse and justification for going bad. You Sir; however, transcended all that and became the awesome guy we enjoy and love watching. It sounds like a man overwhelmed by the filth and hell of modern life, running away and opting out of the madness (the slowing part); then I feel the changes after that part are like a rediscovery of himself, and he starts to build that strength up, then he can come back and deal with all that stuff, having rediscovered his soul, his center.

Three years late to reply but the reason they didn't radio play this song is because they liked to play songs that were 2-3 minutes long so they could run adverts more often. At about seven minutes this song didn't allow that. Same with 'American Pie' - they'd cut off the last verse which was the key to understanding the song. Money!

The best part of the van was an eight track player with a fast forward control that I just had to explore when I was ten. He had a few eight tracks but Cosmos Factory was one that caught my eye. I put it in, the tape was at the beginning and Ramble Tamble came on. I played it and couldn't believe what I was hearing. I fast forwarded through the rest of the tape until Ramble Tamble came back on again. I did this over and over until I ran the battery too far down to keep playing. I snuck back out of the van down to the house. My father had to jump the van to make it to work that night. I never had the heart to tell him I ran his battery down but did tell him how much I love Creedence.

Like a lot of kids at the time (I was 11) I bought this album on the strength of "Up Around the Bend", but reveled in the deeper cuts, especially this one. "Why don't they make music like this today?" Someone, somewhere, undoubtedly is, but there's little market for it popularly. More central, it was a different time. Artists were experimenting and record labels were trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Sometime in the mid to late 70's that changed, as Rock and other genre's became more conservative, wanting to play it safe. Or maybe all the experiments had been done, and everyone knew what worked and stuck with that.

I grew up on this song in NZ. My dad played CCR all the time, and this was always my favourite song by them. There was the obvious bit where everything slowed down, but my favourite part was when the piano came in again. I've been listening to this song for about 40 years or more, and it still sends shivers up me even now.

Right after the album was released I was home in my bedroom as a teenager laying awake after being out. It was after 1 am. I was listening to an old FM radio station from across the Lake in Erie, Pennsylvania. Suddenly this song came on, and I was transported...........didn't feel the heat and the sweat of the summer night (humid here in southern Ontario)..............just the music as I bent my head closer to the little radio by my bedside. What a masterpiece and what an impression it made on my young mid. Now it's so many years later, and I just saw a live version of John Fogerty playing this..............such a welling up of emotions. Sometimes it's the little moments that make life wonderful. Thanks for your reaction.......

You get the the story of why he wants to leave home and ramble. Then you get the whole emotional journey. And then he revisits his roots.
And a little wisdom thrown in. First it's mortgage on the home. Then it's mortgage on the car! How prophetic is that, with many of signing 8 year mortgages on our vehicles. Finally it's mortgage on your very life. Welcome new world order. In my opinion this is at the top of under-rated classics.
