I have seen many reactions that young people make for one of these bands from the 60's or 70's and they almost always are amazed at how great those bands were. If I could offer what I think is the reason those OLD bands were so great. First, they LOVED the music and they LOVED making music and they were willing to practice HOURS every day to get their songs down as perfect as they could get them. Many of today's singers get started, not because they love the music, but because they want to be a CELEBRITY! These old bands got started because they loved the music and it was almost an obsession with them to make music. Second, when these bands were recording, they did not have endless tracks where if the guitarist made a mistake they could just redo HIS track. Nope. They had ONE track so if the guitarist made a mistake they had to redo EVERYONE'S part and just redo the whole thing. This put a great deal of pressure on everyone in the band to get it right! And obviously because they loved the music they were willing to put in the practice necessary to "get it right". My father was not professional but he sang in a gospel quartet in his college and he told me they would not sing a new song in church or on the radio until they had first practiced the song at least ONE HUNDRED times. They were just a college quartet but they refused to perform in front of anyone until they had the song as perfect as they could get it. If I could compare that to how some people feel about singing in public today... there is a man who sang solos in my church and very often I would see him select a song from the church hymnal as the congregation was gathering for the start of service and then he would get up and sing it, not having practiced it even ONE time! Obviously, his thinking was extremely different from the thinking of my father and it made me cringe to see how casual he was about singing in a church service. I might add that his refusal to be bothered to practice his song was very obvious as he started singing. The key was often too high or too low for him. He sometimes got his timing wrong. He quite often stumbled over the words. He sometimes got the tune slightly wrong. It is undoubtedly because of the way I was raised but I would sit there thinking, "Dude, if you can't be bothered to practice, DON'T SING!"

Personally, I think their version of Hello Mary Lou is lifeless in comparison to their other work. They perform it competently but it's got none of the soul and passion that makes the CCR sound - but that was from their last album when they were on the verge of an acrimonious break-up so that might have something to do with it.

I got to meet him during a concert about 10 years ago, I was on the front row and had written a letter to him in large letters and just laid it on the stage in front of him and he walked over and stopped the show to talk to me. He even gave me the guitar pick he had just used!! Great moment for me!!!
Every time I went out on a gig with my band, my girlfriend would have a candle burning in the window when I got home. I knew it was over when the candle wasn't there.

The talent of the band was John Fogerty. The proof was in their last album where John let them do what they wanted because before on all of the other albums John was like a mini dictator and the band thought they could make just as good a album as the rest of them. Needless to say it was a flop. They ended up breaking up and the split saw the brothers never making up with Tom Fogerty passing away. There is a youtube video of John explaining his side of the breakup. These people even sued John for sounding to much like himself. He won the lawsuit. Luckily John is still around and has had a couple of videos with him playing with his kids at home during this stay at home times. You should check out some of his Solo career hits like Centerfield, Old Man Down the Road. There are others less known.

Dude, I'm 30 years old and this is one of the first bands my father introduced to me when I was 11-12. I'm hooked on them since then and they are still one of my favourites. And believe me, I've invested lots of times to look for bands with a similar sound. There are... NONE! 👌 So unique with their swamp rock sound for a west coast band.

Brother Jamel. I was born in 65. I'm the nephew of multiple Vietnam veterans (Lead singer John Fogerty is one as well) This is the music I was raised on. It ALWAYS takes me back. Shines it's ever lovin light on my childhood
My mother born in 1932 loved all music. As children she would read us the libretto to Puccini's Madam Butterfly one night and play her "This is Fats Domino" album the next and she loved CCR.

When I had lost everything and was homeless I spent a few nights in a gospel shelter. Some pretty rough characters in there. A Christian band came to perform and they treated us to Midnight Special. They were remarkable musicians. Their performance got me out of my funk and I was able to get back on my feet. Now I'm doing well. The Midnight Special is hope. I love this song.

Wilma Lee Cooper, a Country singer wrote this song and she and her husband, Stoney Cooper recorded it in 1959. Actual name is Big Midnight Special. But Internet claims it as just being a traditional song. This is the first time I've ever heard CCR sing it but I've heard many Country music stars sing it.
I remember my dad listening to these guys on the weekend after working hard all week in the power plant. Those guys have so much soul it seems like they have experienced what they are singing about. I think this weekend I'll listen to them and have a few beers 🍺

Just to be as transparent as possible, I'm 46. Some say I have an old soul. When I first learned how to drive I was driving my mom's Saturn and I had only one tape. Chronicle by CCR. To this day, people remember me, be it friends I haven't seen in years or decades. Nine years ago, my nephew was born. At age 3, I introduced him to "Down On the Corner". He not only remembers it but knows how to play the bass line for the whole song. Keep it up Jamel! I'm 40 almost 41 my grandparents had their own band mountain music. But my grandma was taking me home one day in her brown catielack (sp?) With the pointed finders she popped this 8 track in and I was forever hooked. That Christmas she got me my first boom box with this tape Lord I wore that out over and over. You can't help but move to it💖

Dude, I'm 30 years old and this is one of the first bands my father introduced to me when I was 11-12. I'm hooked on them since then and they are still one of my favourites.
And believe me, I've invested lots of times to look for bands with a similar sound.
There are... NONE! 👌 So unique with their swamp rock sound for a west coast band.

My mother born in 1932 loved all music. As children she would read us the libretto to Puccini's Madam Butterfly one night and play her "This is Fats Domino" album the next and she loved CCR.

Funny you should say that. I just listened to the Leadbelly version last week. I am in the process of uploading a Blues CD collection onto my computer and Leadbelly is one of the CD's.
I have the Leadbelly Smithsonian collection on my phone and listen to it very regularly one of my favorite artists it’s sad that he never lived to see the power of his music

My dad had a 1956 Chevy Bel-Air which I used in college. It had an old tube radio (complete with conelrad symbols ) When the radio finally warmed up, this song was playing! We still have the car!

"Proud Mary" "Lookin' Out My Back Door" "Run Through the Jungle" "Who'll Stop the Rain" "Green River" "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and "It Came Out of the Sky" are some favorites from them, though it's difficult to narrow it down even that far, they're just good.
CCR is close to my heart. They were my Dad’s favorite band, so the music was a staple in my home growing up. As Long as I can see the Light is my absolute favorite. They’ve got soul.

When I had lost everything and was homeless I spent a few nights in a gospel shelter. Some pretty rough characters in there. A Christian band came to perform and they treated us to Midnight Special. They were remarkable musicians. Their performance got me out of my funk and I was able to get back on my feet. Now I'm doing well. The Midnight Special is hope. I love this song.
One of my FAVORITE songs by them, probably my second favorite. Reminds me of my grandfathers as well. I love when when you get moving and smiling, I can tell you you’re enjoying it 🤘🏻 glad you found this song!! Fogerty has such a soulful voice!

Supposedly if the headlamp of the train (the midnight special) shone on you through the bars of your window, it meant you would be released soon. Wilma Lee Cooper, a Country singer wrote this song and she and her husband, Stoney Cooper recorded it in 1959. Actual name is Big Midnight Special. But Internet claims it as just being a traditional song. This is the first time I've ever heard CCR sing it but I've heard many Country music stars sing it.

I remember my dad listening to these guys on the weekend after working hard all week in the power plant. Those guys have so much soul it seems like they have experienced what they are singing about. I think this weekend I'll listen to them and have a few beers 🍺

Just to be as transparent as possible, I'm 46. Some say I have an old soul. When I first learned how to drive I was driving my mom's Saturn and I had only one tape. Chronicle by CCR. To this day, people remember me, be it friends I haven't seen in years or decades. Nine years ago, my nephew was born. At age 3, I introduced him to "Down On the Corner". He not only remembers it but knows how to play the bass line for the whole song. Keep it up Jamel! I love watching your reactions to new stuff and if I could request "Down On the Corner", when you have time, I promise you will not be disappointed.
I'm 40 almost 41 my grandparents had their own band mountain music. But my grandma was taking me home one day in her brown catielack (sp?) With the pointed finders she popped this 8 track in and I was forever hooked. That Christmas she got me my first boom box with this tape Lord I wore that out over and over. You can't help but move to it💖
