Hello Ian Davis. First off i wanna say how much i admire you work, as a mechanical engineering student you really inspire me. Secondly, i wanted to express an idea i had for your hand: since i noticed you were trying to figure out methods to control each finger, i thought about one possible solution. (I'll apologize now for my terrible english but being an italian this is not my native language) Since you still have your thumb on your left hand, i thought you could put a "slider" on your mechanical index with 3 or 4 switches, that you control with your left thumb. Every switch would "unlock" a finger that, if locked, will stay open or closed nvm the hand input you give to it. The left-most switch of the slider unlocks only the index, then you unlock both the index and the middle finger, and so on, until all 4 mech fingers are unlocked. This way you could have more control of your hand without having to use your right one! Let me know what you think of this, and godspeed

different fingies sets can be mounted to one socket, I present you TÓÓNY STARK
Can’t wait to come back in ten years and see him having built a fully-functional Iron Man suit, fit with an unlimited power supply.
That would make time travel possible.
You can do silly things with infinite power.
Bro Alex labs is doing that thing already
@@comradecameron3726 so far as we know an infinite power source only allows you to travel to the future faster, we still don't know how we could use said energy to travel backwards in time.
@@comradecameron3726 unlimited power supply doesn't necessarily mean infinite power
Honestly i ain't one of those people wantin you to make somethin for me or a family member, I'm just fascinated that you made a working and fairly advanced prosthetic for yourself. Like it's actively impressive to me
Ay smite
I do not know a lot about prosthetics but I feel like what this man has made, has to be the most advanced prosthetic hand out there. I have not seen anything like this on anyone else. However I also do not know any amputees so I could be mistaken.
@@R0B0T2k It's not the most advanced one out there, but it's the most advanced i've seen someone make for themselves seemingly without assistance.
@@SuperInsanewolf by advanced do u mean circuitry and other buzzy stuff ? Yes , but utility wise this right here is the best :)
@@siddhantmishra3598 Yea like there's one where a guy got both of his arms back (for the most part) when he puts on this like vest like thing.
Amazing progress just by one man. I can't wait to see more of this series, and hopefully engineers will take notes. Maybe sometime soon we'll see more of these (hopefully - knowing the customization is so integral).
Magnificently spoken sir. You have given Everyone a Personal DIY on how to make personal prosthetics(with access to certain tech) through your amazing videos. Thank You
My son was born with hand that looks like yours and we have explored various prosthetics to address activities such as baseball, mountain biking, etc. I searched all over google and RUclips but you never came up on my searches. Glad to find your page and congratulations on your very impressive work in your builds.
This man is my hero. I hope to make prosthetics for other people at an affordable price that suits their needs. Ian Davis proves it's always worth a try.
I love how the prosthetic fingers act absolutely naturally as Ian is moving his hand while talking as if it were his real fingers!
i just love how naturally he intertwines his flesh fingers with the mechanical fingers like they were always there.
Biggest flex is the hand gestures
This man gets a guaranteed crit every third hit
Heeeeyaw!
This man’s hand is so powerful that every 3 hit it will turn into a critical hit.
you think he can insta-kill if he taunts ?
It’s really cool that you’ve created your own prosthetic fingers and the fact that you’re sharing your knowledge is inspiring. you’re a good human being
I logistics of a purely mechanical prostatic hand is mind boggling to me. Particularly the splaying of the fingers. Huge props to you ma dude!
Nobody noticing he looks like Gordon Freeman
I wanted to do prosthetics at uni but didn't manage it. I watched a friend go through it. She was a marvel and that course was amazingly complicated. Kudos to this fellow for doing for himself. It's impressive work.
Have you considered releasing the CAD files for your designs? Making the project open source for people who want to build their own prosthetics and learn from the work you’ve already done, as well as people who are just curious how it all works. Some really nice design work with such a powerful application
I'd imagine it would be easier to learn to create your own from scratch rather than reverse engineer an existing design.
@@justeric1107 it could be used as a road map though for trail and errors for other people.
I'm one of those people who didn't ask for you to build a hand, but for you to post one of these instructional videos. My dad's a handyman who lost his index finger on his left hand, so I can't just copy your hand. But now I can learn something. I can't thank you enough for these videos.
I get that people see a solution to a problem somebody they love has, and they want it for them. They also need to understand that just because somebody can fabricate something, doesn't mean they are able to do it purely out of good will for the rest of the world. So much time, money and brainpower needed for this stuff.
You are literally the fucking coolest dude on RUclips. Making the dreams of the past into a tangible reality. Your content is always fun to watch and I applaud your vision. Building badass robot hands is badass.
Now we can appreciate how wonderfully intricate our hands were designed.
Lets appreciate how our hands have evolved... ;)
@@mateusleme2322 - We didn’t evolve. You don’t get this level of intricacy through “evolution.” Sorry, it just doesn’t happen, no matter how long “scientists” say we’ve been around.
Do you believe in evolution?

It's probably the people who wanted him to make them their prosthetic hand

i seldom in life ever see such revolutionary thinking...i dont ever think ive met someone who could even fathom the idea of being as intelligent as you speak. people like you are going to change the face of our planet
You Sir you're Super .. your attitude.. your work your project and the inspiration you can donate to people with your video... you did very very .. very well.. i'm happy to see your video ..
I'm so glad RUclips recommended one of your videos to me. Sure, I don't know anyone personally with a situation like yours, but advanced prostheses have long fascinated me. That combined with your DIY beliefs makes for a great channel.
Love your stuff man, so cool to see your ingenuity.
Whatever you say cyborg man
You should win an award for resilience to the frustrations of life. Mad respect to you
I think your goal of making these videos so the viewers can make their own prosthetics themselves is really the best and most angelic solution thank you so much for this
Dude I absolutely love when I see one of your videos in my feed it brightens my day, thank you for sharing with us
The kinematic movements and natural looks you've managed to incorporate on a purely mechanical system are breathtaking. As a mechatronics student, I can't wait to see how your individual digit control turns out!
As an ex-machinist (miller/turner) and someone into hobby electronics, I can't wait either!
The fusion of mechanical engineering and coding on this level is inspiring to me... And hopefully to many others in the mechatronics/open source community,
Good luck with your future studies Armaan, the world needs more enginerds!
A laser pointer in the pointer finger would be pretty useful. If you need something across the room, you could point to it and they'd immediately know what you're asking for
or he could just hold one.
Or integrating a taser into your finger tips to give people the magic cheese touch

Btw you hand is basicly the best prosthetic limb I have ever seen so far, especially since it is fully mechanic and does not have servos or anything dependant on electricity, it is really quite an incredible thing you made
Kudos, man. I love to see people solve problems in clever ways. It’s a big part of what makes us human.
It's awesome you're sharing CAD drawings and explaining them, it will really help people make their own

This man is building his prosthetic hand just for fun, the fact he does it with a single hand means he doesn't even need it... I don't know what others think, but it's just epic.
What amazes me most about this channel is the difference between manmade and nature made. It hard to replicate nature but it can be done with time and energy
Dude, a flashlight built into the hand sounds absolutely brilliant!!!
Hello Ian Davis.
First off i wanna say how much i admire you work, as a mechanical engineering student you really inspire me.
Secondly, i wanted to express an idea i had for your hand:
since i noticed you were trying to figure out methods to control each finger, i thought about one possible solution. (I'll apologize now for my terrible english but being an italian this is not my native language)
Since you still have your thumb on your left hand, i thought you could put a "slider" on your mechanical index with 3 or 4 switches, that you control with your left thumb.
We live in a time where this guy can design and build his own prosthetic hand and its absolutely insane
Love seeing this
