When I sat in the C7 at the Vienna Auto Show as a little boy, I absolutely fell in love. It was the coolest thing in the world at the time. It was, and still is, a really really special car, and I still adore it. My second favourite Corvette after the C2 in fact. I might even want one, as soon as I can afford it…
Carfection with Henry as host is becoming one of the most sympathetic and sophisticated english spoken car channels around here. Keep up the excellence!
This is why you have become my favorite motoring journalist. I have a manual ZR1 and you truly captured the spirit of the car in your review. And yes, the car is really something special with the stick. And also yes, the car hydroplanes at any speed over 50mph in the wet. :)
Steve Brewer the fact you have to say that tells me you are frustrated with the British car reviews. In my opinion the hate everything American. Meanwhile jaguar F type is perfect.
Exactly. I thought I was the only person who hated the C8. I just don't like the looks. It looks too much like a NSX which I actually prefer over the C8, and the interior isn't good quality. Oh, and that $60,000 Price tag? Thats the base model. And you don't get heated seats, a infotainment system, etc. I just love the old C7 ZR1. I may be a Shelby fan, but it's just... badass.
@@allensaunders449 I agree. Just the looks are kinda ehh, for me. I had an 06 Cayman and the mid engine balance was quite amazing. That's and the steering.
PowerWeight Training the C8 looks great mostly, it's just the rear end that looks like trash, but i think the C7 rear end is the same trash, i want traditional corvette rear end styling like the C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 vettes
Though the C6 ZR1 may not have quite as much hp and it can be a bit of handful on the track, I'd still take it any day over the C7 version. The very bulky, over done looks of the C7 ZR1 is what really kills it for me. I wouldn't call the C6 ZR1 beautiful, more like very handsome, with a case of undercover meanness. Nothing even comes close, bang for the buck wise and the already awesome LS9, takes to modifications very well... As long as things like the intercooler bricks aren't skimped on.
Another BRILLIANTE episode. Really well done. Even almost brought a tear to my eye at the end. This car, with a manual gear box, is my dream car! If anyone wants to know what a modern day, future collectable looks like well, here it is. When the newness of the C8 hype starts to fade and don't get me wrong, that is an amazing piece of automotive engineering it its own right, the appreciation and value of this C7 ZR1 will only increase. Again, well done.
He didn't compare it to anything. He just said it wasn't too enjoyable to drive, probably because it had soo much power that it was a handful on track.
What a great review, understated and no melodramatics, being a Brit Corvette owner in Britain it's good to hear another Brit appreciating the Corvette as a genuine sports car.On the auto transmission,I'm old school as well and prefer a manual transmission but I heard a journalist that went on a track day with a late model Porsche "911" with an autobox and a proffesional Porsche racing car driver beside him and as he was shifting gear with the paddles the racing driver told him to leave the paddles alone,he said "if I can get a faster lap by leaving it in full auto I'm sure you can",sure enough the journalists lap times were seconds faster!,goes to prove how good modern autos are.✌👍
Another excellent review Henry. I've been reading your columns in EVO magazine since 2008. As a C5 Z06 owner, torque is a beautiful thing. I'm starting to lust after the last of the front engine monsters, the C7 ZR1. Not a fan of the C8. You should do a review of all the Corvette generations.
Okay....maybe it's just me, but this version of the Vette looks FFFFAAAAARRRRR better than the new vette. If I had $150k, I'd have his in a heartbeat over he 2020.... just me though
The C6 ZR1 came out in 2009 not 2007. It was an astounding machine at the time and still is to this day. After the fantastic N/A LS7, GM was on another level when the ZR1 released in 2009.
So, Henry, what did you think of my roads? I grew up on those and learned to drive there. Glendora Mountain Road (GMR to the locals) was in the car mags and car commercials quite a bit, over the 80s & 90s, until the hills burned in 2002 (or so) and the road washed out. The first article I remember written up there was Dan Gurney driving a 288GTO for Road & Track, I think. That gate you pulled up to at the very end was my gateway to work for about two years, when I built a cabin up HWY 39 just past The Narrows back in 2007-'08. Best roads in SoCal.
If I had the money, I would without a doubt take this over a c8 (even the highest performance model) This car is now something rare, the last of the front engine corvettes. They are probably gonna go up in value at some point.
Terrific job as usual Henry! Loving the American reviews. Can't wait to see your C8 review as it's a world beater in every way for a bargain price. How about an "05 or '06 Ford GT for a blast up that road too? A classic beauty.

Well done. Great shots on the mountain road. Interesting how the new one is just as quick with reported better build quality. New one definitely doesn't sound as good as this one.
After years of hearing American cars are shit, having an honest British presenter give one positive reviews always means a lot more. Can’t wait for your review if the new C8.
Well already the C6 wasn't called that anymore. Most european reviews i read (i would even say all of them) about the C6 and C7 were praising them. (The seats of the C6 were criticized, but not their cornering.)
I groan/eye roll so often when I watch Henry or any other auto-journalist really making basic-bitch mistakes like that as if they're nothing. Couple that with his ludicrous assertion that in his eyes the c6 zr1 "wasn't that good", meanwhile driving the heavier, less driver-centric, shitbox auto c7 and I can only help to wonder why the comments are always fanboys out the ass.
Even though Vette's are for old guys like me, I've never liked them. But I liked this video because Henry Catchpole is an excellent guy. Thumbs up from Ohio :-)
Thank you Henry. I have been waiting, wishing, and hoping that you would do this review and at last, you have. It is not surprising that it was brilliantly done as you are my favorite, bar none. Most excellent friend, most excellent. Now for the Viper ACR. Please man, give the ol girl a go. She would shock you, I do believe.
Same here 🤔🤔🤔 I wonder why they didn't build it. I bought mine 4 years ago and I recently applied new fresh paint. I enjoy everything even though my baby its almost 20 years old.
I don’t think Chevy had any plans of making the ZR1 at the time they were producing the C5. For Chevy it was a big deal to 1) bring back the Z06 for the C5, which had not been seen since 1963 and 2) make a pushrod V8 that could produce just as much horsepower as their high tech dohc 32v V8 in the ZR1. I suspect that was enough innovation for one model generation.
Having port and direct injection isn't necessarily for more fuel, rather, it's to keep the valves clean. This offers both the precision and efficiency of direct injection and the reliability benefits of port.
Such a shame the C7 was never made right hand drive... Yes, they do convert them here down under, but it’s not the same, and technically doubles the price. Maybe I need to consider a move to the US... I’d buy this in a heart beat - who needs practicality when you can get one of these... Great video, too!
Even as a European, it sounds somewhat strange to me to hear them pronounced as ”Zed Arr One“ and ”Zed Oh Six“ instead of ”Zee Arr One“ And ”Zee Oh Six“. This car is so quintessentially American, you can‘t really apply British pronunciation to it IMHO… 😅 PS: I might just as well call Henry „Heinrich Fangpfahl“! 😆

Did he really just say the C6 ZR1 wasn’t that good?!?!?!? @2:52
Haha, I thought the same! First time I hear something like that! It even set great lap times on the Nürb (also the Z06)...
R8andGT3Fan Yes! That’s exactly what I’m saying!
He's talking about to drive
Soda RS It is good to drive .....
@@MashiroMartinez some people don't agree and 9/10 people have never driven it so whatever.
C8 is exciting. But I'm a Corvette purists. It was a sad day when I didnt hear that Chevy Thunder at Rolex 24.
That was always gonna happen due to new restrictions, regardless of engine placement.
It was pretty hilarious to hear those flat planes rattle themselves to death. Chevy is so cute when they attempt a modern motor.
This might sound like sacrilege, but I really hope Corvettes start coming in AWD and winter tires.
I can't believe that the C6 zr1 wasn't good 🤔 i only heard positiv things about it
Outstanding car!
Just a moronic journalist mate.
Pretty much aced in every aspect except for its horrible seats and the cheap interior.
I own a 2010 c6 zr1 drives amazing
a c6 zr1 can beat a c7 z06 any day. it is a very good car.
Thanks for being fair to the Corvette, Henry. You're the best in the game
Steve Brewer the fact you have to say that tells me you are frustrated with the British car reviews. In my opinion the hate everything American. Meanwhile jaguar F type is perfect.

C7 manual Corvette is on my short list. I am the right age for it. I am not a huge fan of the C8 looks. Give me a C7 Grand Sport
I may be a Shelby fan, but it's just... badass.
The C8 is s much better platform just wait until the more powerful variants start to come out
@@allensaunders449 I agree.
@@Big_Black_Dick I hate the side vent so much. The lines don't match and flow with the rest of the car. I believe it would look much better without it
Oh man CA39 is where I take my Vette all the time. What a great road, car, and review. Thank you!
The C6 ZR1 wasn’t that good?
Whoa?
Compared to what?
Skeptical Skeksis Exactly
He didn't compare it to anything. He just said it wasn't too enjoyable to drive, probably because it had soo much power that it was a handful on track.
@Society of Vanity I find it adorable when Americans think that they are superior people.
Most cars
@MrBadBricks i find overrated profile pictures adorable
I’ve heard of back to the future, but with this So American dream.... its more back to the past !!
Henry, your video crew and editor are so on their game and then some!
Henry is the star of carfection as is the producers and camera folk who film each masterpiece
I find ZR1 C7 more stylish than mid engine c8. Am I the only one?
Great quality as always carfection is awesome
What a great review, understated and no melodramatics, being a Brit Corvette owner in Britain it's good to hear another Brit appreciating the Corvette as a genuine sports car.On the auto transmission,I'm old school as well and prefer a manual transmission but I heard a journalist that went on a track day with a late model Porsche "911" with an autobox and a proffesional Porsche racing car driver beside him and as he was shifting gear with the paddles the racing driver told him to leave the paddles alone,he said "if I can get a faster lap by leaving it in full auto I'm sure you can",sure enough the journalists lap times were seconds faster!,goes to prove how good modern autos are.✌👍
I am excited to see if the C8 makes it mainstream thanks to its spectacular value.. but this, this is the Vette for me.
they sold 50000 before a single car was built ya i’d say that’s mainstream
Oh, you were in The Smoking Tire country! Man that Corvette's such an over the top machine, you can't help but falling in love with it.
Masterpiece video guys. That shot with the orange Vette at the closed road sign is art
Another fantastic vid, Henry. Well done!

Another fantastic vid. Thanks Henry and the team for the consistent top notch work.
I went to the dealership the week the C8 was announced with no manual and picked up a Z51 with one. What a joy it is to drive such an absolute mess.
Henry, come to Canada! I'd love to meet you! You're a legend
Thanks very much for the wonderful audio and excellent commentary.
The LS9 engine was announced in 2007 that it would be the engine that would go in the 2009 C6 ZR1.
I will buy this one over the new C8. The C7 ZR1 is the beast!
Love the Road Closed ending !
Specs and performance of new C8 Corvette are amazing but Ohh I will miss front engine one and ZR1 C7 will be insta classic for sure.
If I had the money, I would without a doubt take this over a c8 (even the highest performance model) This car is now something rare, the last of the front engine corvettes. They are probably gonna go up in value at some point.
1 year run and less that 3k of them produced!
IMO, To this day there is NO better "Drivers car" than a C6 ZR1.
*Laughs in Porsche*
lol wut
Henry Catchpole, you’ve done it again
12:30. Yes, very clever. Good. Nice review. Living in Bowling green I see enough corvettes that it’s old hat, but the ZR1 is something else
awesome cinatography again...such beatiful pictures. Best in class, guys!! thanks again for such an amazing video!
The ending was badass
Terrific job as usual Henry! Loving the American reviews. Can't wait to see your C8 review as it's a world beater in every way for a bargain price. How about an "05 or '06 Ford GT for a blast up that road too? A classic beauty.
The guys must have been keeping this review in the bank for a rainy day. There's no way Henry has been to LA in the last 2 months.

Great video! Very informative and engaging. Makes me proud to be a part of the Vette family. My '15 C7 Z51 A8 has an ECS blower and ARH. So much fun and i can take the top down it being targa top
Well done. Great shots on the mountain road. Interesting how the new one is just as quick with reported better build quality. New one definitely doesn't sound as good as this one.
Amazing review. They seem to be even better all the time. Keep doing what you're doing please.
(The seats of the C6 were criticized, but not their cornering.)
nirfz by the time the c6 z06 was out, everyone was hush hush
Such a nice video! So good to see that you do american cars also and you did quite some pieces on a Corvette. Keep em coming!
what an ending! Congrats Henry, I wish I could write scripts like you :)
The supercharger doesn’t electronically decouple. It’s bypass valve is electronically controlled.
@@aiGeis And you're NOT fanboy-ing right now? Do I need to repeat that old saying about people in glass houses?
Even though Vette's are for old guys like me, I've never liked them. But I liked this video because Henry Catchpole is an excellent guy. Thumbs up from Ohio :-)
Always my favourite corvette
Lovely video. Love those roads up in the mtns of LA
Thank you Henry. I have been waiting, wishing, and hoping that you would do this review and at last, you have. It is not surprising that it was brilliantly done as you are my favorite, bar none. Why didn't the C5 get a ZR1? I mean the Z06 isn't a bad looking car. It's my favorite generation of Corvette.
Good question, probably ran out of time before the next generation? Huge fan of C5 and especially the Z06....let’s not forget POP UP HEADLIGHTS!
Same here 🤔🤔🤔 I wonder why they didn't build it. I bought mine 4 years ago and I recently applied new fresh paint.
I enjoy everything even though my baby its almost 20 years old.
@@rickhunter6513 there's a Z06 in my neighborhood and I always ogle it when I drive by.

Brilliant, sounds like thunder!

Having port and direct injection isn't necessarily for more fuel, rather, it's to keep the valves clean. This offers both the precision and efficiency of direct injection and the reliability benefits of port.
Very good Henry. A fitting send off for an icon.
Such a shame the C7 was never made right hand drive... Yes, they do convert them here down under, but it’s not the same, and technically doubles the price. Maybe I need to consider a move to the US... I’d buy this in a heart beat - who needs practicality when you can get one of these... Great video, too!
Great editing! What a video!
Thank you for an entertaining video. I'm so pleased you said Zed throughout instead of zee.
”Zed’s dead honey”

Even as a European, it sounds somewhat strange to me to hear them pronounced as ”Zed Arr One“ and ”Zed Oh Six“ instead of ”Zee Arr One“ And ”Zee Oh Six“. This car is so quintessentially American, you can‘t really apply British pronunciation to it IMHO… 😅
PS: I might just as well call Henry „Heinrich Fangpfahl“! 😆
Stunning and insightful as always. Fantastic video... makes me wonder how many you’ve got in the piggy bank.
