Good deal, I just did the slip yoke eliminator on my TJ a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised how simple the inside of the transfer case is. Awesome that you can change the guts between the two.
Just for anyone who needs to know. JB Conversions make SYE kits specifically for the Chevy NP231 (233).
I don't have an S10 but it's still cool to see the interchangeabilities between all the 30 series t-cases. Thanks for a very interesting video!

Really good video. Would be very interested in seeing how the speedo sensor is handled.
You can make a block plate for the Speedo and drill and tap it. You might have to weld in a stand off so it has the clearance but that'll make sure its in the right spot and you won't have to make a new hole.
Interesting video. I had a 2001 ZR2 years ago and I swapped the 236 for a chevy 231 (1996) along with the older console(dyed to match). When I went to install the 231 (cable shifted obviously) I found that all the mounts for the cable shift were already marked on the trans tunnel and just needed drilling out. I then used a 2wd dash plate to cover up where the old electronic shift buttons used to be. Single best thing I ever did to that S-10 based rig and I did ALOT to it.
Great video! You guys should make a video of the shift linkage being made and installed I bet there are some S10 owners who would like to see that
Journeys Offroad makes a kit for Astro vans that has a manual shift linkage for that transfer case, maybe it will give you some ideas

I’ve did the same thing with a 236/246. Not that it’s a good Jeep application, but worked good for my van application. And FYI, the 246 uses a wider chain and gears and should fit into your 231’s. A lot of NP/NV parts interchange with each other
racrx7 same manufacturer just changed names or something like that.
The AMG (Military) 242 from a H1, use mechanical speedo, however my M-715 truck it's going in will have a digital unit, so I picked up a manual speedo to digital output unit.
Full disclaimer, not sure the "pulse width" will work with his S-10, but the parts can be found new and used, might save you time and headache.

You can swap the 3 port vacuum switch on top the t case for the front axle indicator switch and extend the the wire if you wanna keep the shift motor. Also from what I understand the speedo sensor has an effect on trans shift points
Glenn thanks for the info! This truck is a 5-speed manual so we don't have to worry about the shift points but I know the automatics need a speed sensor for sure. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Question, I have a 2002 Wrangler with the 4.0 and a NP231J TC. The TC cracked over the winter and I bought another TC from a salvage yard that was also on a 2002 Wrangler 4.0. That Jeep only had 70K miles on it. I bought that TC. That TC is also a NP231J but it only has 4 lugs to mount to trans. Is it ok for me to just utilize the 4 lugs or do I need to figure something else out. Thank you for your time and keep up the great videos.
nice i might try that when i do my sas on my s10 using a locked d30 for a cheap swap its mostly a daily doesn't see extreme abuse

So you said in the beginning of the video that you where going to use the back half of your np 231 and front half of his np 233. Later tho. You said you where putting your SYE on the back of his t case. So my question is is it his 2 halfs (complete np 233 case)or his front half (np233 front) and your back half(np 231 back) and SYE? I'm trying to replicate

Great Video, especially since I have a S10 ZR2 blazer that will be SAS's and I have been wondering the best way to approach a budget way for the t-case.. Now to see what T-case is in my XJ and upgrade that and use it for parts...
also for a block off plate, maybe spins a plug that bolts to the OEM sensor bolt and has a recessed collar for the S10 speed sensor at the proper depth from the tone ring gear? Should be pretty easy to fab if you have access to a lathe and set up to weld on alum

It looks like there is a slip yoke eliminater kit on the nv231... my question is will a nv231 slip yoke eliminater kit work on a nv233? The 5 bolt pattern looks identical.

Make a plate and weld a nut on it so you can put it in the same hole , so you don't have to drill in the case
Would the shifter lever and internal mechanisms have worked as a swap aswell?
Watch the Novak vid for their sye install. They have the case sit vertically seems easier to work on.

How did you solve the 4wd sensor problem. One is vacuum and one is electronic?

I have question about the front output shaft seal. Chevy case, jeep shaft n yoke. Does the factory seal work with the new fixed yoke?
Same seal on both cases.

I would say most any machine shop could make an adapter for the speedometer situation.

The chevy np231c has 6 gear planetary gears, and a wider chain. I would have not given up that HD planetary and stronger chain. I would have just changed the front driveshaft output and did the Chevy sye.
TheQuartermaster55 this is a Chevy np233. We used the front half of the case from the 233 for the final product. The chain on the np233 and np231 are the exact same size. 1"
Nate Bleepinjeep, that's a lot of time to use up when you could have gone to the junkyard for something as cheap and easy to get as a np231c.
233c had a 1.25" chain up until '97, IIRC. After that they went to the 1" chain.
id sell the trouble & buy a ford.done.!!.

233 tcase chain is stronger then the 231 chain. shoulda swapped them
id just stik a 205 in there,iron,problem solved.better gears.

Nice video -- but good Lord, put a noise warning in for the impact. You can't speak so quietly and then have the impact. Jeeze.
How you guys can rebuild anything with sand all over it is beyond me. Some hot water and a scrub brush might save a few headaches..

WAY too much blue silicone used on the NP231. Excess silicone "spooge" should be avoided. You need about 30% of what was used there.
