Thanks for this series, finished my rebuild a couple days ago after watching your videos. Very thorough and easy to follow even though my transfer case is a bit different than yours. Huge thanks man!
Lmbo everytime you said flip it over or flip it around i kept finding myself leaning and flipping my phone trying to help ya i guess so yeah i guess your video must have been pretty good and very indulging and entertaining too 😂🤣😂👍🏼👍🏼 great detail and its really strange that you pump assembly wasnt bolted on like most are usually that pump has 4-5 bolts holing it in place
Good video sir! Glad this video is a "cleaner" one as I'm the original steward / owner of a 2003 Jeep TJ 4.0L w/ 5-speed here in Alaska. Gonna do the SYE + new rear CV driveshaft as it needs that SYE b-a-d as the TJ at 60mph here vibrates like a cheesy Las Vegas bed that uses quarter dollars to spice things up w/ the misses
Amazing video ! I noticed you call those snap rings but they are actually called lock rings. Just learned that recently. Again great video. Thank you! Very helpful !
Where did you get the snap ring pliers at? I have the traditional sets for rings with the holes but I do not have a set with the flathead and grip like you used.
Around your 3:00 mark, that little case you are taking off.... what "could" be a cause of a 2-3" crack near one of the bolt holes? Aluminum fatigue from the pump ears that rest against it?
This the same Tcase thats in a 94 dakota too? Believe thatz whats in mine been few yrs since i looked at mine but something broke so im in need of another & thinking rebuilding myself dont look out of my ablilities
I didn't have a lock ring on the front output shaft when I did my sye kit. It's on a 2000xj np231. The shaft came right out together. Is the lock ring your talking about the one for the bearing? Coz my bearing has a lil bit of play and I don't wanna pull it all apart again if I don't don't have to lol
Hey, i got a pair of knipix flst nose c clip pliers, but i like how your pair has that smaller edge. What brand are those, I'm gonna order a pair, lol. These would make my life great.
Hey Jerry great video..would you know where i van get the shift rod that goes from the 4 wd lever to the transfer case..can't seem to find it anywhere ..thanks
Hopefully you see this , so I’m rebuilding my np231 J transfer case and got everything of ok and I got to the planetary and I cannot get it out ,it won’t move at all… I got the big ring on the inside and I got both rings on the outside and it still won’t budge and I’m stuck on what to do ,if you can get back to me asap that would be awesome
@@TestDontguess in your video it showed you pulled one big snap ring from the inside and then had to un bolt the bolts in the back and then one more lil snap ring on the bag side and it slid right out?
@@brycemaggio6144 Hey Bryce thanks for the reply. The question was more about the NP231 being the towed vehicle rather than the towing vehicle. And in the year since I posted that question, I've learned that yes they can be, but I also learned that the NP236 was an easier swap for my Astro van. 😁 Cheers!

Your welcome glad I could help
Another great video Jerry . Although I watched this on your other channel , this one is more in depth . Keep up the great work my friend .
Yes this channel is all the diy and the other channel is a just a Vlog
@@TestDontguess I do enjoy both channels.
Hey Thanx For Sharing. Rebuilding my 231C this weekend. Already Rebuilt my NV 3500/HM290. Keep Up The Good Work.

I'm a fan, easy to follow and you cover details. This video was exactly what I was looking for. 🍻
Very detailed instructions to follow. Thanks for a very instructional video.

there is a whole series on this build
@@TestDontguess Cool! Thanks man.

Very helpful video. The link for rebuild kit is not working, do you have another recommended rebuild kit link?
Thanks for your help. Excellent presentations
Thank you for the video Brother.

Hey what’s up BSK, is your 231C rebuild process similar to the 242 HD
snap ring pliers or nervous breakdown.the choice is yours.😉
Is there anyway to buy the plastic parts separately
If I currently have the 3 pinion stock plant and wanted to get the 4 pinion or more would I have to upgrade anything else along with it ?

I think there is a link in the description
What is the purpose of using a np231p and a j?
can i drive my jeep with out the transfer case
while i rebuild the transfer case?
If you have to ask that question I highly suggest you don’t attempt any rebuild
how did you get the yoke off of the little shaft?
Hey Jerry great video..would you know where i van get the shift rod that goes from the 4 wd lever to the transfer case..can't seem to find it anywhere ..thanks
Try azzy or look up ksuspension
Near end of video: Did the excessive silicone cause fluid flow problems resulting in damage?
No..... there is no excessive silicone just people with OCD

There should only be 1 snap ring to remove the planetary and you need a special tool for it
@@TestDontguess in your video it showed you pulled one big snap ring from the inside and then had to un bolt the bolts in the back and then one more lil snap ring on the bag side and it slid right out?
You don’t need to remove that big snap ring. Only the one where you gotta remove bolts
@@TestDontguess I got the ring that comes after the bolts and it still won’t move
I got all the rings that I need to , and it won’t budge at all yours slid right out
My snap rings are broken that you said dont come with the rebuild kit what can i do?
Up shit creek without a paddle, I’m sure you can purchase them somewhere
Would this one be similar to n246
Any plans to use JB Coversion (Super Short SYE)??
No will be using the SYE I had on the Jeep Transfer case
Those NV engineers sure like their snap rings.
Someone at NV must have an uncle that owns a snap ring factory... lol
😂😂😂😂
Do you think you can flat tow with the NP231?
How much weight? What size tire? D35 is probably a bigger threat to towing

And I have to replace bearings because of slight wobble. Never done it should be interesting lol
I wince every time someone fiddles with a snap ring..
good video
That must have been the 231C because it had a 4 pinion planetary.
It was yes
Because the plastic parts I need
The small bits you used to be able to purchase on eBay
Anyone that tells you they have never used a hammer to take apart either a tight bolt or a case... Is a liar!!!
What a pain!
