I’ve watched these shows since I discovered them a couple of years ago during the pandemic. They are beyond wonderful! I have watched everyone I can access at least three times. And honestly every time I feel a bit sad…..I turn to George to the rescue! You have no idea what you and your people have helped me and so many others get through! Thank you!

I don't understand why they could not have put up a 'privacy' wall and make it like a small bedroom...the room is big enough... bahumbug it looks like the room is made for the family... not the grandma.. disappointed :/

This show is so so much better than the home make-over show. With this kind of makeover, a relatively modest amount of money has made a big impact on this family's lives. The big home make-over show people were having big money problems and the solution was to tear their modest house down and build them a huge over the top house that they couldn't afford to maintain.They came up with some of the most impractical ideas.

Love what was done, but feel bad for the grandma still. As she stated to walking issue. Wished elevator was put in. Good she wanted it to stay clean.
The couple's house was renovated with the grandma in mind. The place where the grandma lived before the renovation was where there was no elevator. There's no need for an elevator where the family lives.
An elevator would make more sense trying to retrofit with a chair? No! "As a physician", how about quit lying as to your status...

I can read "as a physician". Am wondering where the justification for your response "ugly negativity" comes in as justified. A stair chair is expensive. Stairs are also one if the most common places for household injuries. Would be more common if more houses had them. Plenty of ways to keep her walking. Just being with her family will up her activity levels.

Absolutely. Handicapped access is important for aging in place. An elevator accommodates walkers and wheelchairs. There are reasonably priced elevators. Lost opportunity...
L J I think the problem she said at the start she had four flights of stairs ....so there is not as many stairs now. They also made the door to outside which didn’t look to have as many stairs. Later they can also add a chair on the staircase.....probably all the other beds are up so stairs, so either way it is still stairs ....at least it isn’t four flights of stairs....don’t get me wrong, because I can’t do stairs myself, so I completely understand. I think if she couldn’t walk stairs at all they would have done a lift ....Grandma looks in good shape, lucky woman 💙

Yeah, but stairs are a major cause of injury. How long before she has to give up living there because she cannot handle the stairs? Those electric chairs are expensive, too, and they restrict walking space. Somebody then has to carry her walker for her, or she has to have two, one way or upstairs and one for downstairs. Finding space for those later is "lacking fun".
Very true, n a murphy bread for a grandmother is a bad idea.

Actually, good point about the Murphy bed. Never had to operate one. Not sure if her trying to pull it down and put it away would be a bit much.

I will die to meet you George, I am from the Philippines but I have been watching all your shows. Been crying most of the time, and happy for the beautiful things you did for others. Apparently, its a very different story in my end, as we have very poor house set up, but your shows are very inspiring, I wish I can own a beautiful house for my family someday too. Grandma was living independently before this and had the freedom to cook whenever she wanted to eat. This reno has not included any such consideration. Though it is beautiful, I am not the least bit envious because of that loss of independence.
You can tell that they are a tight knit family. And such family most likely eat together. If that was a demand she had, it would have been adressed. She had been sleeping on the couch. She would not have done that, if she was not a part of the family's routine. The idea of you being envious is also pretty silly. Why? This renovation was to fit the needs of this beautiful family. Not you.

Agreed, it would have been far better if they had turned downstairs into a mother-in-law suite, since the family could have continued to dance in the upstairs living room. However, maybe they were restricted by permits - some places don't allow suites in a basement.
Grandma, its only a matter of time until I can't do stairs anymore. Family lets make a space for grandma downstairs. Haven't finished watching, I hope there is some accommodation?

good things happen to good people who needed it at the moment of time ....wish they had brought in someone to put in a Home elevator or some type of chair lift and yes i know a chairlift can be put in at a later time but since the show was redoing the basement they could of brought in the specialists to do it then for the lovely grandmother

Beautiful job and a lovely place for grandma. When my grandpa passed away we were so fortunate to have grandma with us for 40 years. So love this beautiful family. Totally understand about workers who take your money and do shoddy work. Love George when he pulled those stickers off. Love love love this episode.

The grandma is going to have to give up her living space in the city bcuz she knows there will come a time she won't be able to climb up & down the steps...and yet they give her only a Murphy bed in the basement??? I would have thought they would have put in a elevator for the grandmother and then maybe on the main floor made the grandmother her own room.

I wished they put the two kids down in the basement, make their rooms there with an area just for them. Bc grandma needs to be on the main floor she's getting older she won't be able to go down the stairs. Grandma could've taken one of the kids old room and the other room could've been a theater room.

Very nice, I was thinking that grandma said she couldn't ho up the stairs but she lived on the fourth floor before and the steps might help strengthen her legs and heart ...
If she has a spinal injury or balance issues, stairs are poor for aging in place. Plenty of other ways to strengthen without precarious steps.

Maybe there was a reason for making a Murphy bed. It doesn’t seem the best choice for an elderly lady, but that’s not my choice. I would have made her a room, not a “bed” in a new family room, but again, it’s not my choice. If the family is happy. If grandma is happy. That’s all that really matters. Happy Grandma! Happy home. I wish them the best. 🥰

George should have put in the same kind of Murphy Bed that the Property Brothers put in for that update for Brad Pitt's makeup artist at her place.
I love what they did, but I did see two things that weren't addressed correctly; one was that the larger window did not have an egress ladder--most of them are built in as part of the retaining wall, but I didn't see one in this window well--and the other that there is no easier access than the stairs. As an elderly adult who has mobility issues myself, that would be a huge concern for me, and I wonder if perhaps there are plans to retrofit one of the new home lifts/elevators in later? I know they're designed to take very little square footage, unlike a full-fledged elevator, so that would be a good solution, if the upper floor has a space for it.
One thing I absolutely hated, though, was the constant, repeated taking of God's name in vain. That was totally unnecessary on the part of the family, and is quite offensive. George and his crew aren't to blame for that, but it sure does put me off wanting to watch anymore episodes when this happens so much.
Important point. Really hate how their architects almost always fall short in some aspect of design.
