  • At just a few weeks away from her wedding, Rachelle suffered a severe spinal cord injury that put her in a wheelchair. Now, George and a team of community members pitch in to create a beautiful and-- most importantly-- accessible home for Rachelle and her fiancée Chris.

This rescue took place 5 yrs ago. I am friends with Rachelle's mother and spent the weekend in the home. It's amazing the adaptations that were made for Rachelle. The in home elevator is the best! Even the kitchen was remodeled with open space below the kitchen sink and a lower counter top so Rachelle can do some activities in the kitchen. Rachelle does not let her injury stop her.
She plays wheelchair rugby, bicycles, does some water sports, and other outdoor activities. She's made so much progress since this renovation was done and has more but still limited mobility. You should see her drive on her own now!!
Rachelle is rocking life and her husband Chris has been there the entire way.

@@Timothy-NH Thanks....I wondered if they'd had kids. It's amazing when someone makes that commitment to a spouse, despite changes they couldn't have foreseen. I married a man that had a seizure disorder that wasn't diagnosed until he started having Grand Mal seizures 30 days prior to our 4th wedding anniversary. Many people, even his parents told me to leave to go on with my life. HOW? How could you leave someone that you loved so much? This young man, husband and father proves that love conquers all.....and it truly does. My DH died in 2002, and it still is a dull ache I can never get rid of. I long to hear his voice and see his smile. Good luck to this young couple and their little girl.

holiday 2406 I’m sorry for your loss. There is a meme that floats around on Facebook and asks that if your spouse became disabled, would you stay with them? My answer, or rather statement, is “if your answer is no, leave them now because your love is not unconditional.”

Your initiative and willingness to help others from bad times to grow out of them is, to my eyes, a welcome change to shows that only highlight money, building new houses that don't match the neighborhood and don't gather the communities together. I love watching you at work! And I hope to see you do more rescues to more deserving people. Take care.

You have given her a life of independence that without you, would of been so different for her and Chris. They can now start their married life being basically on their own. I am sure they are forever grateful for you, their community and her brother and Mom. Without them, her life would be so different.
Rachael and Chris, I wish you a life of happiness together.
For her friend, I can only imagine the hurt it not only caused Rachael but yourself. Just know that Rachael can now have an independent lifestyle. She can now do things for herself that she had not been able to do. She can do things now,

While just posted, this is a pretty old episode. Rachelle and Chris have been married since July of 2011, the accident that left Rachelle paralyzed happened on May 23, 2010 (Wow, coming up on 10 years!). In 2015, with the help of a surrogate, Rachelle and Chris became parents to Kaylee Rae, an beautiful little girl.
I have followed their story for some time now, and with a search, you can find several documentaries about them, including the surrogacy. My favorite documentary is the one when they were going to have a family portrait done and Rachelle worked in secret from Chris to get braces made so that she could stand for the portrait.

I have a lot of respect for the husband. Hes a real man that truly loves his wife. These kind of men are so hard to find in this day and age. God bless them on their journey of life together.

Nice concept (the show)...he seems to have a huge heart. My question is this though...instead of renovating some gorgeous existing house, why doesn't he spend the money he would have spent doing that, and build 5 small, new homes for homeless families? There are a TON of entire families that are right now homeless, through NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN, just victims of circumstances and living in their vehicle, a parking lot or a shelter, with CHILDREN for crying out loud. Children have no business growing up in a car or a homeless shelter.
It hurts my heart to see this show and how all this money COULD be spent. God bless you all.

I think the friend used to feel really bad about it, but not anymore. Rachelle said this in an interview: 'She was distraught and depressed about what happened. But as the years passed, she didn't make the effort, it was just going through the motions and every time we spoke.'

my grandparents are both disabled and they have always wanted their house renovated. while my grandfather was renovating the kitchen, at work he got hurt and now he needs his knees replaced. He takes care of all the homeless cats in our neighborhood outside and we have cats inside. he has fallen outside too ☹️
