I thought that too. I cringed when I saw them painting that woodwork. Everything they did designwise could have been accomplished with a slightly warmer palette and leaving the woodwork.
I love this show but damn the most tears I had from this episode was the destruction of the amazing fireplace why just why ............and those kids are just the best

What the heck! Why in the world did she paint the brick??!!!! Gezzz! If this was my home I would be absolutely livid at the destruction! Shame, shame, shame!!! Lowered the value of the vintage bungalow. Please never use this woman again! What did "she" do with the mission style furniture he had which totally went with the style of the home? The thing I did like is this is a wonderful family and he makes a GREAT father! His children are lucky! This was a poor rescue due to the decorator. I think George should go back ad do a "re-rescue."
Surprised the owner would allow the designer to paint over the natural wood, bricks. I get she wanted to lighten the room up, but bet she could have come up with other ways to do it.
That so-called designer ruined a wonderful little house. Her desire for "modern" killed classic timeless. The only GTTR I've hated... though of course I love dad and the kids: how could I not?

When kids grow up go their own ways, want to sell the house. SHUTE in price because of degradation of original features. Boxed over features to modernise would have been less harmful. But the windows! Kept railings in front 1 good point. In UK if you have a Classed House because of Architectural interest. You are not allowed to alter it . National Heritage . Can be a pain, but help to save the finest historical Designs and Architecture . Painting as an out let of expression Fine . I studied 'Hitoire de L'Art' at the Sorbonne in Paris My painting is not genial like most of what is done . Overrated Few' Turners ',Hoppers, Picasso, Klimt, ........
This man has done a magnificent job bringing up his children………what a lovely family…..Dad be proud of what you achieved and become……you have an awe beautiful family💙

What a lovely family! They are very sweet. I liked this rescue because of them. But the tree-felling in the garden was painful to watch. They were beautiful and their uprooting was unnecessary.
They painted the fireplace and wood! Like what kind of crazy is that! If designers have to be part of some kind of designers guild, that designer should be dis-barred for the desecration of heritage items! Also, at the beginning the home had 2 beautiful mid-century chairs which were much nicer than the modern replacements.

At school the first thing they teach is don't listen, or more like listen to the heart of it and his heart didnt care that much about that (he cared about an updated family friendly space that was safe and updated). People get emotional and attached to all kinds of out dated and plain weird ideas. A woman was once convinced she wanted a 40 ft foot rooster from floor to vaulted ceiling top.... um no we went with roosters in a better way. And she loved it, as did this family.
Can not believe they painted the original wooden features to add a 'fashion' colour grey. Others people Buy a house for its 'Art Deco style and restore to its original beauty . Can any one imagine Painting over Frank Lloyd Wright?

Every time someone wants to put a tv/monitor screen over a fireplace I worry that the heat from the fireplace when it's running will get to the electronics. Heat is the sworn enemy of electronics and if the heat from the fireplace gets to the screen, it will last only a fraction of its normal life.
Um. I was in the top ten or so of my college art classes. Just to clarify something; most studio artists in the northern hemisphere will look for natural light from northern sources, partly because the light is more consistent and casts fewer shadows to tire the eyes as they work. In the southern hemisphere, I can imagine it would be the opposite...

George, I'm one of your biggest fans. But you fumbled the ball on this one. Please learn something about historic architecture. There are very few original Sears houses left, and even fewer are in the vintage condition you destroyed. I hope you didn't throw out the inner door - part of the original house. But as a recovering alcoholic, I thank you for taking care of my brother and his kids. Oh, I still love you and your show. Just not the job you let her do on this house.

I'm oddly satisfied about the rain pouring. I've lived several places, but here in San Francisco it never pours. Nonetheless, if the rain gets much past a drizzle and starts to edge into light rain, natives will exclaim about the pouring rain. You can barely get wet walking in it.

The wood, the house, whatever makes you all so "disappointed" in this rescue, is not/are not sacred in any way whatsoever. Nobody should ever have to adhere to anyone else's idea of "save this," "preserve that," "Don't destroy the sacred layout (or wood, or patch of grass, or the sacred birdhouse built by great uncle ( )...)." A house is meant to be lived in, to be changed as needed and desired to suit the homeowner(s) and occupants. One of the reasons HOA's are such a pain in the derriere is their constant need to dictate what homeowners can and cannot do--THEY are what should be outlawed, not something like painting over wood trim, as the ridiculous negative remarks all through here state.
