- A longplay of Donkey Kong Country 2, all DK coins and pictures photo.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Super Donkey Kong 2: Dixie & Diddy in Japan) is the sequel to the original Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo, and the predecessor to Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. It takes place shortly after Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong's triumph over King K. Rool in the previous game.
The game features are improved from Donkey Kong Country's, with better graphics, more enemies and animal buddies, harder levels and additional depth. Its soundtrack is also widely praised. It was commercially successful selling 4.37 million units.
It also had a Game Boy semi-sequel, Donkey Kong Land 2. It was released in 1995 and had Diddy Kong as the star. A port of the game was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004 and was re-released on the Virtual Console in 2007.

Omg I haven’t heard this music in like 10 years. I’m crying
Ive never tried the gba version! It looks so different from the original!
Gba trilogy games are "updates" versions from snes
The 2000s were such a bad period for the DK series. These GBA games shed a light of hope for it
Not worse than 2020s when the series is kinda dead, nothing new since DKCTF in 2014 and the port for switch in 2018 with the new Funky mode .
@@KamyAnai03 I'd rather they take their time as opposed to fake bongos for a racing game

3:43:46 As a kid, I thought that K. Rool was killed there. I didnt really see the true ending since my brother keeps beating me to it and I couldn't unlock the final boss level on my own.
honestly funky kong can go funk himself
I know right, his mini games are boring as hell:/
You'reThatMantis nice one
that reminds me of the censored version of Shaun of the Dead they tried and put in extra's when they were saying funk instead of fuck
I wish they hadn't messed with the sound effects in the GBA port. they're so wonky.
Loved the playthrough; awesome game. :)
GBA cartridges have significantly less space on them to store game data, so the sound files had to be far smaller and often more compressed than they could get away with on the SNES.
Oh wow, didn't know that. Makes sense. That SNES sampling must've been wicked awesome for the time then, cause that music was epic.
and how do you expect to get the best sound on a GBA from a super nes best music I don't Even think the Vita could do that....just be happy they released the game on gba
This is 100% false. Even at GBA's launch, GBA games were using larger capacity than any officially released SNES game.
The DKC games on SNES are 4 megabytes each. There were only a couple of 6MB SNES games- Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean. Star Ocean required a decompression chip built into the cart to fit on 6MB. Without it, the uncompressed game would have required 12MB. No SNES game above 6MB was released officially.
At launch, GBA games came on 4 or 8 megabyte carts. 8MB launch titles include- Rayman, Castlevania, Rockman EXE, Pinobee, Tony Hawk 2, GT Advance, Fire Pro Wrestling. As time went on, 16MB GBA games appeared, and even a few 32MB games (Mother 3, Yggdra Union, Kingdom Hearts CoM, Spyro Eternal Night). There were even three Dreamworks movies released on GBA (Shrek 1, Shrek 2 and Shark Tale) that used 64MB carts.
The GBA ports of DKC 1 and 2 use 8MB cartridges, twice the size of their original SNES releases. The GBA port of DKC 3 actually used a 16MB cart, FOUR times the size of the original.
BTW, if you're measuring in "bits" instead of bytes (bits was the standard they often marketed in the 1990s) multiply the megabyte number by 8 to get the proper conversion to megabits (4 megabyte = 32 megabit).
Vita can reproduce SNES music fine. There has even been a degree of success with emulating the entire SNES hardware on Vita (which requires a lot more power than just porting a game normally).
GBA is also capable of reproducing SNES sound. It lacked a dedicated sound chip, so developers used the GBA's main ARM7 CPU to process sound. ARM7 was an insane leap in power above SNES, allowing a high degree of flexibility in competent hands. Besides having incredible visuals, Golden Sun has fantastic music that matches or surpasses SNES. There are also hacks for the Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire GBA ports that rather accurately restore the original SNES sound.
The DKC trilogy on GBA was not an act of charity by Nintendo/Rare. They charged $40 at launch for bad ports of decade-old games. On a handheld that vastly outperforms SNES. This wasn't Gameboy Color where it was a far weaker piece of hardware (for what it was, THAT port of DKC1 on GBC actually WAS impressive). The GBA ports had no excuse for turning out so poorly. Other GBA games have demonstrated the system's real potential.
Amy Rose you did a great job for geting 100% on Donkey Kong Country the seconds
and same thing too complete on 100% Donkey Kong Country the first
keep up a good work Amy Rose.

I just finished watching this playthrough that you did for the same game, but the SNES version, and the SNES version looks and sounds a BAGILLION times better IMHO
Alicia Dodson play it on an actually gba, it looks and sounds a million times better
I remember this game, it’s all I would ever play. But sadly I lost the game, and my Gameboy with it. If I could ever play this game again, I’d give up a lot...
Just buy it on Amazon, I bought a new gameboy(micro) it was around 120 to 150 if I remember... I still had the game thought. Funny thing is I had 82% of the game completed yet I had 37 hours on it.

I haven't played this but I have played Crash Bandicoot Huge Adventure on the GBA, and it feels a lot like this, but in all honesty this game looks better.
This game is great tbh but im playing the one on the snes and it looks ten times better! If you'd like you can check it out on my channel mate:)
In Cranky's Video Game Heroes, which Link is that? I think it's either the Link from the NES, N64, GB, or GBC Zelda game. I do not think it's the Link from the SNES, GC, nor GBA Zelda game, but I could be wrong.

The snes version has better graphics.
Oh, really? Go figure... Who would've guessed that a whole table top console that connects to your TV would have better graphics than a handheld that's 1/16 the scale... Congratulations 🎉
Funny thing:
When playing this game as a kid I noticed there were three kinds of each level (3 minecart levels, three lava levels, 3 beehive levels, etc.) excluding boss levels and Animal Antics.
Wow soo funny
and one is aways themed blue, the other green and the other red, with no exception
Yes, if you count Animal Antics as a jungle level at least
Well, the ghost house is the only theme with just one level.
I don't remember if I saw that online or noticed it myself but it sure blew my mind. And yeah, Animal Antics is jungle because not only does it start in jungle but it also happens to be the only repeated environment in the level.
Gee, with how bright Glimmers Galleon is in the GBA version, it’s almost like you don’t need Glimmer
it's bc this was for the gba advance, it wasn backlit so they adjusted colors a bit brighter so it doesn't look too dark.
I had this for my GBA! NOSTALGIA BACK!
Kitsune Faye
Kitsune Faye me 2. Pokémon Firered and Emerald and this were my favorites.
I loveee gba version, even with bad music or graphics!
My nostalgia lies with the SNES version. I played the GBA version too but it doesn’t have the same vibe
Can't remember the graphics being this bad tho
This was a great port! I just love GBA! GREAT VID. You are such a great player.
Good by amy rose
This is one of my favorite games, though I only played the SNES version a lot. I have very little experience with the GBA version.
LightMindedJedi its pretty much the same except brighter for the terrible gba screen.
No. Mini games where different, and that weird mini boss going up the tower wasnt there either
I apreciate how they included the story from the game manual!!! This was a very good
DKC 2 is the hardest of the original 3 imo
And my favorite.
Which one is the easiest
@@digitoisgod5395 Probably Number 1
I can vouch for that lmao 😅😅 back then me and my sister played it 2 player and w even had a hard time back then
@@MrFerny316 Oh I bet! 1 person is hard enough, I can’t even imagine how difficult it would be with 2 haha
This GBA port gets one giant You Tried star for trying to import DKC2's incredible soundtrack with only half the correct sound fonts.
I’m actually quite fond of this soundtrack, I like some songs here more than the snes version
@@gamerplayer8882 this port has also some extra sound effects for some characters too, like different death sounds for each enemy
the GBA speaker cant process low pitches
dkc2 update:
added intro
added new boss
added sound affects
new bonuses
made toxic tower backround green
changed the map display
added new mingames
a sound affect will play when you do junp as a snake
used new invisibility theme
removed rap when you defeat a boss
bug fixes:
fixed castle crush glitch
thanks for playing and expand dong!
I think DKC3 on the GBA was wise to make a new soundtrack (even if it led to some odd moments, like the cheerful sounding Ripsaw Rage level). Emulating the SNES in the sound department was something the GBA was not cut out for. This is a solid enough port though. I think what makes a port good is if it manages to achieve not making someone go back to the older version to see what they've missed (other than for the sake of seeing it obviously). Another prime example was Mario All Stars on the SNES. If you play that there is no reason to play the NES versions of those games in regards to game play and content.
Bad ports are ones that do thing like cut levels in order to save space and things like that, or ones that might as well be considered remakes (changed too much to be a port, but not enough to be a remake).
The GBA was basically a handheld Sega Genesis.
Wise? I see what you did there... 😏
@@randomthings7997 Didn't intend it, but worked out.
I'd say the All-Stars Version is a Downgrade from the Originals.
The music makes me sad.
The Textures make me sad.
@@an2thea514 I do think the music was overall a big downgrade, but from a gameplay perspective, All Stars is very faithful.
Why do the Kremlings sound like Moe from The Simpsons?
Magic
Man this brings back memories. I played this before the snes version and they're almost like different games!
*Cranky Kong: Look, a note!
*Diddy kong: ok boomer *starts to juggle *
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Diddy Kong’s sound effect when rescuing a Kong in Funky’s mini games is the same to the opening of the 1997 N64 game Diddy Kong Racing
Sadly looks better on Super Nintendo, not sure about Wii and New 3DS Versions.
It's GBA, of course the graphics are low quality by comparison.
Joseph Rudowicz it not quality I was talking about, the GBA used a different Overworld then the others and it just looks stupid. Map design is the same for each stage though.
@@stefantod9699 Well, the GBA was never supposed to have graphics as good as NES or SNES. It's a handheld. They downgraded in every way but the game was still pretty damn great. That's just my nostalgia talking. Being 10-11 playing Donkey Kong Country 1-2 on the GBA SP was the best. I never even experienced the NES/SNES versions but I saw the playthrough comparisons and you are right but it's definitely the graphics too.
Joseph Rudowicz Yea, for me I had it for the Super Nintendo and sadly don’t have it anymore. And to get it now of days, I either have to buy a new console or hope it goes to the Switch.
@@stefantod9699 The Wii and 3DS versions both look exactly the same as the SNES games
I had this game when I was a kid good times. 8 years old when I had this game back in 2004
Oh yes, I was I think 8 when I got moms old game boy, I played this almost all day, such good memories
I had the super Nintendo version
50:46 that sounded like a whole beat to the song
Diddy is mostly useless in this game. Sure he maybe faster, but Dixie has him beat in so many areas, that he might as well be used for 'meat shield' purposes in this one.
I also would have to rank him right down there with Kiddie (in terms of playable Kongs) for being one of the more blander, generic looking and least interesting Kongs in the series.
I had this for my GBA as well. I only made it to The Flying Krock since I realized of course you had to pay the 15 Kremkoins to get pass The Lost World. And it took me a very long while to also figure out the cheat code. Turns out the code was "FREEDOM" (oops!)
Some of my favorite levels were:
Hot Head Hop
Rickety Race
Haunted Hall
Topsail Trouble
Fiery Furnace since it turned out to be one of the most easiest levels; The key was the banana path in that level
My least favorite levels:
Parrot Chute Panic
Bramble Blast
Krockhead Kramble
Toxic Tower
Overall worlds/areas my favorite were:
Gloomy Gulch
Crocodile Cauldron
So most of the game?
I hate the kid-like sound effects in the gba remakes
Jajajajaja pinche diddy kong rapiando al final de cada nivel
Three cheers for Amy Rose Longplay and Donkey Kong Country 2 (GBA) 102% Complete Longplay
I hate the sound effects the kremlings make when you kill them on the gba version.
i first play dkc1 and dkc2 on gba emulator, so i was surprised not to have this kremlings sound effect in the super nintendo version, I think it's cool
The last boss in this game used to PISS me off when I was younger could never beat it for some reason
Glimmers Galleon Dont know why they have glimmer, this version isn’t dark like the snes one on this level is and need him lol No fair ! and what’s up with the helicopter, airplane thing and then the espresso race? Glad the snes doesn’t have those lol I own all 3 Snes do country games this and 3 rd are my favorites with the first snes dk my third. Dk 64 I Love too. Of course it’s a very long game and actually got to K. Rool at the end but couldn’t beat him, it’s Hard! Lol
Anyone watching this after seeing the Mario movie?
Good thing I have and play all these versions on my snes classic mini
there was no need for an intro scene that long. felt like a terrible fanfic
Fun fact: they actually wanted to put intros on the originals, but left them on the manuals instead.
It does look cheap though, like a bad Newgrounds Flash
3:09:38
The only thing i like about the GBA version is the sound effects. Like Spinny for example who makes chitter noises when you approach one. Also the low pitched scream from Diddy Kong when he his on a kart.

Winky was replaced by Rattly and Expresso was replaced by Squitter?
At least Expresso was added back in this port even if it's only for a racing mini-game.

I think they just wanted the feather and the only way to get it was to jump in the hole and die
(I mean they could’ve jumped on the tyre to safety but that’s too hard IMO)
Love the back music in the thors worlds
Man, anyone else disappointed that they didn't check the level stats at the end to show that they got everything at the end? I'd use it all the time to see if i missed a bonus or a DK etc, seeing it completely filled up, checks and all, would be super satisfying
