I just did a 5.3 a couple days ago and I only made my right arm bleed in 3 places in the 37 minutes it took be to do it so I consider that a win for me !! LOL!
I could not find the darn thing even with a inspection cam. Just could not get that cam on it.anyway i came watch your video just enough to locate the switch or sending unit and took me twenty minutes or less without removing anything other then cover.Much smaller hands so no biggy thanks for the video!
Glad to hear it Dew. Yeah, it can be a bear to find and get to without removing anything. First time I did it I removed the intake manifold. Super easy to get to, but took a few hours to remove the manifold and put everything back. You'd think they could put those oil sending units in an easier to access location!
There is a little screen Filter in where you screw the new oil sending unit….. that screen filter can get clogged up and give false readings and people think it’s a bad oil sending unit. If you replace the oil sending unit pull out the filter and toss it in the trash, unless you don’t change your oil on a regular basis.
I just changed mine too and it's still reading low. 0-20 psi. Just changed out the oil pump and o ring also about a month ago and was reading great. 40cruising- 60 on hwy. My old sensor was cracked so I figured it would've fixed it but it's still reading low
@@BlueCollarDIY yea if anything I'll get a replacement one. The brand I got was driveworks but I might just get my money back and go with the bwd brand
hey man thanks for your video. but ive got one question that i didnt catch in your video. where do i get that socket? because a regular 27mm deepwell isnt deep enough.
Howdy, was your oil leak coming down from the area where one would think that the rear main seal needed to be replaced? I changed the rear main as well as another seal by the torque converter but the damn thing is still leaking so this is my next solution.
Yes it was. I was worried I'd have to replace the rear main seal. But my oil sending unit was leaking a lot of oil. The sending unit had almost cracked in-two.
I doubt the oil sending unit in your 2006 4.8 chevy would be causing those issues. I would suspect it's more likely the the o ring and oil pump. That's what was wrong with mine. The lifters knocking could be do to not getting enough oil or it could be because of something totally different.
@@johnjohnston1022 did you get it figured out? My 2005 suburban only ticks when i go offroad and hit potholes. I can shut truck off while downhill and restart it and ticking will go away. Im thinking it is my oring in pickup tube. Low oil pressure. 25 psi on cold start...about 15 hot idle.
i ran into this issue,i had a defective oil filter, the flap inside the oil filter was messsed up,i changed the filter and no more lifter clacking or starved top end for oil,i had this happen on several gm vehicles,i would try replacing the oil filter and restart the vehicle, the lifter clacking should go away instantly,if it does not change then remove oil pressure sending unit and see if you can check the screen for debris and perform an oil pressure test with an external gauge to check pressure, engine cold should be over 40psi,engine hot should be above 20psi for an acceptable oil system
I'm not sure. Let me see if I can find it. Any auto parts store will have it. Just tell them you need the socket to remove a Chevrolet oil sending unit.
@@BlueCollarDIY ok because I was giveing one from gm for my truck but when took it off I found nothing so used a 3 inch bolt out it in there and it bottomed out so there can't be one there or it didn't have one just wanted to make sure before I put the new one in
@@mikepent2438 You're welcome Mike. I hope you get that thing up and running. I really, really hate replacing the oil sending unit in my 4.8 Silverado! I don't know why they couldn't have put it in an easier place to get to!

That's odd. I was thinking the O ring until I saw you mention it. I guess it could be a bad sensor. Maybe see if they can test it?

Take off oil pan, clean the screen on oil tube, replace o ring

I’m curious when you added the correct amount of oil did your pressure go back up to 40?

I have the same truck my question is....
If that sensor is bad would it cause my truck to stall out?
I doubt it, mine is bad and runs just fine
What socket did u use?
not a normal socket. oil sending unit socket on amazon. 11 bucks.
Would the oil sending unit be a issue with low oil pressure and lifters nocking or oil pump and the o ring in the pan?
I have a 2006 4.8 v8

I have a Chevy Express reading 80psi when I start the van. What do you think??
My 02 gmc done same thing than bounce up and down . Change my Oil sending unit it stop completely and running better even .best 50 dollars I sent
Why are some sensors this long type and others have the short type
I don't know. Every sending unit on the Silverados I've replaced have always been like the one in the video.
What size socket

Thanks you sir i found it and its a 1 1/16 and if its a 2001 chevy tahoe it is a bwd part and the number s4184 go right in

The ONE thing I wanted to see eas you snakin that socket back down there. "Here we are its all done now" was a bit pointless imo
Does the 4.8 have a screen under the sensor ??
I haven't seen a screen under the oil sending unit of my 4.8. Mine is a 2000 Silverado.
