Just one thing: it was exclusive to Apple Arcade because they helped fund the development. Apple paid for the timed exclusiveness. It would not have been made without it. It’s much the same for other games like Death Stranding which was a timed exclusive, with Sony funding development, publishing and marketing. Now, years later, it has been released on Xbox. It sucks it was stuck in Apple for so long, but they helped this game get made and deserve some credit.
This^ this game literally could have been called like “final fantasy dimensions” or something and it still would work. Those that calling it boring or whatever imo either didn’t like the 80s and 90s turn based RPGs (never mind final fantasy 1-10) or just don’t respect gaming history imho. I don’t mean to sound rude to those of you but it’s a fact that turn based RPGs were and while maybe not AS prevelant, are a big part of the growth of gaming over the years and a big part of many of Japans or foreign country’s developed games in general finding an audience around the world. I can respect not everybody like this game or finds it boring but hironobu never made it to appease to a general audience it’s a throwback in design to his older works for those of us that liked his work and maybe even some who may not have played older ffs or similar games who are interested.
I’ll give it a go. Metaphor was a slight letdown for me. Solid 7.5, maybe an 8 if I’m being generous..but man.. I totally feel like that game is overhyped.
TBH I agree with you. I mean, I enjoyed it but it was not living up to the hype for me personally. Not that I was hyped, it just didn't land with me like it did for others. I'd say this is closer to an 8 for me if I was to score it.
Ah, that’s a shame. Well, for me Metaphore more than lived up to the hype. I got the demo, wasn’t expecting much as no one was talking about it at first before the high score reviews hit, and it hooked me with its wonderful fantasy world, music and characters, with addictive combat - It’s my game of the year, and I never really vibed with persona. Sometimes we just don’t like a great game, book, movie that the majority loves. It sucks, but it happens to all of us at some point. Anyway, Fantasian looks wonderful - I can’t wait to give it a go. I hope it makes be feel the wonder I felt playing FF6 back in the day.
I really like the battles in this game. Getting to blow away hordes of enemies all at once that you've banked over the course of an area is more fun than I thought it would be. Even the regular battles are fun to bend the spells/actions so they hit more enemies kind of like Chrono Trigger.
It's not hard at all! There's no grinding needed really. You can pick normal or hard, I've been playing on normal and it's easy enough. If you end up dying on a boss, you just need to tweak your strategy and start using stronger attacks or buffs right away, I doubt you'd fight a boss more than twice. I think this game is just your speed to be honest!
@@ErekLadd The original has a reputation for being brutally hard later on, but they kept that difficulty in and made it Hard, while the new Normal is supposed to be much more reasonable. I'm trying on Hard, though, just to see how far I get, and I haven't died yet, as of 13 hours or so into the game.
Yes!!!! Because we gamers need to support games like this. No woke agendas but pure love poured into a game! The way they build the world by hand and rendered into the game just blew me away. Its so detailed! I love it! It shows that going back to base works. Bigger isnt always better
I've played about 20 hours of it so far and think it's a great game. The story is engaging, I love the battle mechanics, and think the dimengeon is a great mechanic for people like myself who find constant random encounters very intrusive. At certain points when I'm walking around the environment reminds me of Pingu to a degree and I really enjoy it. The only thing that bugs me currently is the movement, I find that every time the camera angle changes it's best to stop moving for a split second, and then go in the direction you want to go. Whilst it's annoying it makes the sense of direction so much easier to deal with.
This is exactly what I've been doing with the camera movement. Just taking a sec to stop walking and then continue. Not ideal but it works all the same. Glad you're enjoying it otherwise!
I'm about 3/4 through and enjoying it reasonably, it definitely scratches the oldschool FF feel. The visuals are good if we ignore the shitty phone UI, the music is just Uematsu goodness, the gameplay is not the greatest ever but it's fresh enough to be serviceable. The one caveat I'd like to add is that is starts SLOW, the beginning of the story really takes its time and the early battles are ridiculously easy even if you blindly spam attack. But the pacing does pick up and the first few real bosses are a wake up call, even if the game never really becomes challenging for veteran JRPG players.
Yeah absolutely does bring out that old school FF feeling. I don't mind the UI as much as I dislike the camera panning and wrong direction walking but it's honestly just a nit pick. But you're right, it does take maybe a few hours to get going but once you get a little deeper the story gets better and the battles are definitely more than just spam attack. From the halfway point on you really need to carefully plan your moves and even swap out characters in battle. It's pretty cool!
Watching this video, the environments remind me of ff9 kinda. I love that they created these dioramas for this game, I will have to pick this up next time I see it. Thanks for the video! Great ad always.💚
It seems a little more jarring on the video than it does when playing it, it’s not super bad though because it doesn’t happen super often when exploring. Often enough but not over the top!
Far too many cutscenes. I’m 25 hours in and I think I’ve actually played for about 6 hours total now.. There’s a cutscene to sit through after almost every single screen transition and it’s absurd. Not everything has to be a fully voiced video… it completely kills my ability to immerse myself into the game because I lose control every 90 seconds if I’m doing anything other than actively battling.
Does it have level scaling? Yes, and difficulty settings..... WTF!!! If they hate levels could they remove levels in a JRPG? Hmmmm.... Yes. You go out of your way to gain skills and items to match harder enemies. I sure like my levels but I could try a system without levels.
@@ErekLadd I bought it, the first town music literally brought tears to my eye. It’s a beautiful game. Very nostalgic game for those that like final fantasy 7 and 8.
I think games should push the boundries of every system they're made for if you want an audience that are willing to spend money on your product. I really liked zelda 2 for the nes, but I'm not sure I'd pay the same amount of money for it as I would for chrono trigger if zelda 2 had been released on the snes when the snes was the most recent console. Back then I would probably much rather just buy play chrono trigger. I do prefer pre rendered backgrounds or something similar in jrpgs so this game really should be something I'd love. But I wouldn't get it for the PS5. It's an over powered machine for a game like this. I wanna see slow downs happening when the system is pushed to it's limits. And not from bad code or anyrhing. All great jrpgs through out the years did push the limits of the consoles they were released on at the time of release. Maybe I would've this game for the switch if I owned one. But it such underpowered machine that I wouldn't buy it for that reason if it wasn't like super cheap. It's maybe something to emulate and play for free and maybe buy to the collection of jrpgs if I love it. But collecting physical copies isn't the same anymore I think. I did buy FF VII rebirth recently on sale for less than 35 USD. I think that's the limit I'd pay for games these days. Games that are too heavy to be emulated on a computer. If it is out there for free and way too easily acceable, it feels like I've been scammed if I pay for it. But in general I can't bother with neither pirating nor modern gaming as a whole. It's too far between releases of games that interest me, that my interest is slowly fading away. The next game I will buy will probably be Dragon Quest XII. I loved the last one. But like I said, the waiting game is too long these days. And a game like FFY VII remake where you don't continue your progress when you play the second part...?! That's the whole point of JRPGs... to level up by gaining experience. Releasing the games in different parts like this is a real mess. Just make the game as one, just like the original or just don't bother making a remake. Work quicker. I don't know... The state of gaming is a representation of the state of civlisation and it's downfall I guess. Damn I get bitter from thinking about this stuff.
No, absolute not! Its $50 dollars. Mobile games dont go beyonce 20 or 30 Buying this will set a standard, move mobile games to pc or console for tripple aaa prices. Game is ok. But drastically overpriced.
This is a full narrative game with 50+ hours of content. This isn't some gacha mobile game. Plus they added voice acting. It's a full fledged RPG that you used to need a subscription to apple arcade to even play.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree. This is a full scale RPG that just happened to be available on Apple devices initially - why - I have no clue. I was quite shocked at the quality of this game even playing it back then. Considering what went into making this game plus the amount of hours you can get out of it, I can confidently say it's well worth the price of entry.
Cant believe people say this game is good. Its soulless and quite boring. No wonder the game industry is falling apart if people says this game is great. Sigh
They just sheep of big name. That's why I don't like it if reviewer need to emphasize this game was made by xxxx legend who made yyyy game back then. Like if the game was so great you didn't need to mention who created it. People can find it by themselves once they satisfied with the game. For me this just selling the past glory when in fact the game was not great.
I just tried the demo and I have to agree. Glad I didn't waste money on this one. Very bland, generic atmosphere and music. I'm actually shocked how bad the music is since it was composed by the same guy as Final Fantasy 6.
Sorry but jrpgs have the most childish and toxic communities ever lol ff hasnt lost what made it great at all. What made it great was the lore, stories and characters which are still great. You turn based purists are just tiring, nostalgia ridden morons who refuse to move with the times.
You look just like an old friend of mine from here in Aus, and we both love JRPGs, so glad I found your channel 😊
Hey well I’m pretty much as Australian as it gets at this point, minus the accent of course 🤣
This is next up for me, after I finish Metaphor. I can't wait!
I hope you enjoy it!!
I'm loving the game so far! I decided to give this a go over DQ3 HD for now.

I’m enjoying it but the camera swinging thing is annoying after a while in closed-in spaces and it messes with the direction you’re running in
Yep - drives me nuts!!
I wouldn’t mind if the FF9 Remake looked something like this.
They wanted the cartoony look. They will never give FF9 a serious. FF8 was looking pretty damn good but FF9 was completely different.
If there is an update or mod for the menu interface, well yes.

Honestly you're right - it really does have that FF9 look to it. I really feel this picks up where the PS1 Final Fantasy games left off!

Should I get this or Romancing saga 2?
I would say this purely because I haven’t played Saga 2 yet! But I’ve heard good things about it though.
Romancing saga 2 if you don't like this girly man main character
