if you ask me SC1 wasn't this "dark" (but real enough) but Brood War was the darkest mostly real story for me and besides Blizzard's tradition with stories is such one that it first gets better before it turns really bad and we have two Add-ons ahead so we all will see
Well, Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm is going to be really dark from what I understand. So I wouldn't count it out yet, ,besides SC II Wings of Liberty was the human campaign. We still have 2 more games to go .

@1eye1derweasil There was a thread on the official forums criticising the campaign - and one of posters provided source on how most of the original writers for SC except Metzen are no longer with Blizzard. I suppose Blizzard wants to cater the game to all age groups, and want to shy away from the game's dark and gritty atmosphere. It's very disappointing.

starcraft 2 lings just look like dogs. the old zerg models were so much more unique and scary.
