    I’m 15 and I’m gonna do everything you did. I was gonna work hard and rack up 50,000 for a full cockpit and an overkill PC, but If I can build it myself, and save thousands, I’d gladly do it. Especially now with the help of Father Dane. This is going to be a great learning experience. I will learn construction skills, soldering skills, coding, and aviation skills. Thank you, Father!

      Hey dude! I would recommend you save up for flight training if you are thinking to fly. And save up for a smaller aircraft sim. Which is way cheaper. And will translate directly into your flight training aswell.
      Safe skies!

    This is fantastic Father. What a great job. I'm a brit (from Cumbria) thats lived in the US for the last 20 years. Also a private pilot and flight sim enthusiast.I work as an electronic design engineer for a robotics company so this video was especially interesting. • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  4 года назад +1

      Thank you. I also had the assistance from a 737 pal of mine who flies for Ryanair. I had him sit in the captain's side (where he always sits) and with his eyes closed, I had him reach out to all the switches and other controls that he would reach for in the normal run of things, and everything was where his hand went. That was my biggest challenge: getting the angles and positions correct. He had some valid criticism regarding the tension on the yoke - mine is a little soft (but you should try the yoke on the C-47 I used to fly if you want to build up your upper body muscles) and of course, he did note that my seating was not up to Ryanair's (or Boeing's) standards :). Otherwise he was able to make a successful and comfortable flight (with me in the FO seat) and was quite impressed. That was all I needed to feel that my work with all those tiny wires (and magnifying glass) was vindicated. He assisted me with dimensions and proportions so I could make sure it was a true 1:1 construction at every stage. If you are ever in South Yorkshire, please let me know and you can try it out for yourself.

      Father Dane Haven’t traveled much since retiring, but should the opportunity present to visit, I will. Thank you for your gracious invitation. How long did it take you to complete (this far), start to finish? May I ask what the cost is on this project?

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  4 года назад +1

      @@iwmtrainingroom7516 It all began 16 years ago with a single computer and a joystick using FSX. I am an old pilot now (I used to be a young bold pilot) but I still like the touch of the controls so piece by piece and part by part I bought and assembled and expanded as I went. The major purchase of the MIP from Opencockpits in Spain was the start of the final version I have now - that was in 2018. It took many months to put that together, and I had to check the circuitry and connectivity as I went along - and it was a few more months after that and after assembling timber and vinyl flooring to form the tight and almost "claustrophobic" effect of the cockpit that it appeared as it does today. As to cost. Well, if there was a fire I suppose I would be needing around £25,000 to rebuild it the next day. But that cost has been spread out over 16 years to get it to this today, as you can appreciate. But I do enjoy it - even the low frame rate doesn't take away from the joy of flying once again.

    I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to film and edit this absolutely perfectly detailed video. I have been looking for such a good description for years so that I could start planning my 737 cockpit. I am about to start construction of an outdoors building that will house the sim as well as my film editing sweet and workshop. I just hope that my finances are going to cover the lot so that I can start replicating your good work to finally enjoy some more realistic and immersing sim flights. Once again thank you so much for your help.

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  4 года назад +12

      Thank you for the comments. Building yours in an outdoor building is certainly a better option than taking over a small bedroom. As an aside, I always desired a motion rig but I didn't have the space but if you plan a building, then may I suggest you look at putting in some hydraulics to give you motion? They don't have to be long but enough to give you the "feel". Also, if you have the space, may I also suggest that you ensure you have width to put in a 180 or 270 degree screen as that is so much better than what I have. I keep promising myself that if I got a windfall of cash dropping into my lap, then that is what I would do for my own simulator. Happy landings

      @9111logic 4 года назад +3

      @@FatherDane Hello there and thank you so much for your kind reply. I also was envisaging the possibility for some hydraulics, hight requirements and finance permitting, being a retired mechanical engineer that would make the project much more appealing and exiting. My only concern is haw to interface that to P3D using one of the existing interfacing additional softwares. I have successfully added my personal micro controllers such as my own gear down with lights and my conversion from throttle potentiometers to encoders for much more sensitive and precise engine thrust control. Pots are very susceptible to temperature and humidity variations as opposed to encoders which are essentially endless rotary switches with fixed values for a given position.
      I am open to suggestions on the hydraulic interfacing note.
      Kind Regards

    I have their single seat MIP, Pedestal & AFT overhead. I still need to get their FWD overhead. I would like to get their yoke & pedals too, but currently using Saitek. Initially I was using SIOC, P3D and Prosim but I had too many instability issues, which I think were caused by SIOC, so I moved over to XPlane with the zibo mod and OCUSBMapper. No SIOC needed :) .. Was the best move I did.

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  3 года назад

      I agree with you that having too many device driver programmes is a complication all by itself. They start competing with each other. I looked at Prosim and a few others, but decided to stay with SIOC as the one I use and with SIOC scripts from Roar Kristensen and his OC4BA as that gave me the greatest stability. Besides, then I have only one thing to check when things go wrong. I experimented with an earlier version of X-Plane but was turned off by the need to keep adding stuff on. Plus at that time, the add-on sceneries were in shorter supply. I went with P3D as it used the same core as the old FSX and as I was able to port my sceneries over, it made more economic sense to me. Currently I have 171 sceneries that I have purchased over the years and were I to switch to another platform now, all that goes out the window.

    Saying that this is impressive is the understatement of the century! Simply, WOW! I did scroll down the comments to see if you mention anything related to the cost but I did not find anything. Also, in the video, you do mention that you had to sacrifice the week's groceries to buy some additional parts at some point, but I did not hear anything more specific. So here goes the question: how much did the entire thing cost you? There is no need to give a figure down to the last penny. Just a ballpark figure will do. Please, include the cost of the PC. Cheers & happy flying! 😎

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  11 месяцев назад

      Your message is very kind - as it took almost 16 years to purchase and assemble the parts I can only suggest a rough figure of what it would cost to replace today: £25,000 - and that is based on the costs at opencockpits.com for pricing. I hope that helps. Happy landings 😊

      I found that the project helped me enormously with the transition from active to semi-active retired and then to retired. When I noticed so many of my friends suffering from dementia it caused me to do something about it - and building a 737 in my spare bedroom was the answer. The experts say that if the mind can be constantly challenged it will prevent the onset of dementia. So, fiddling with small wires and tracking down connection errors certainly presented the challenge. As does the exercise of planning an ILS approach in the working cockpit. I still have my commercial pilot's licence (with IFR etc) and while I couldn't pass a flight physical to actually fly anymore I can at least keep my skills up-to-date. Enjoy the videos.

    Hola saludos desde Calama, Chile tengo que contarles que soy un viejo admirador de FS lo jugaba en los años 80 y algo; y en los 90 Mi sueño frustrado de ser piloto.
    FS fué fuente de inspiración para mi hija en cuarto medio en vez de dar más importancia a la Universidad decidió postular a la FACH para ser pilota junto con eso dió la PSU y se fué de paseo de fin de curso a Argentina y de regreso se entera que fué aceptada en la FACH y que quedó en la carrera de ing. química en la UCN.
    Por motivos de arduo trabajo no he vuelto a FS pero si disfruto igual viendo los videos que suben ustedes. Acá en Chile existen creo 3 formas de ser piloto la más conveniente es la FACH después en DGAC de cada aeropuerto de regiones del pais deben cobrar el curso entre clp $4.000.000 a $8.000.000 de pesos chilenos.
    tengo un hijo ingeniero electrónico quiere hacer el curso en DGAC Bueno y yo ya con casi 59 años de vida me conformaré con poderlo jugar y como pasajero en la vida real....
    Yo volaría el FS 2020 desde Calama Chile a Santiago Chile y desde ahí escala en Panamá para llegar a NY USA
    Después países de América Latina Finalmente Europa etc de a poco...
    Que cumplan sus sueños atte Luis Beltrán Martínez

En FACH, una persona puede volar muchos tipos diferentes de aviones y ganar mucha experiencia. La forma DGAC es muy cara. Les deseo que su hija y su hijo todos los buenos deseos y bendiciones sobre su futuro. Y al igual que usted, estoy ahora más allá de ser capaz de volar. Para personas como nosotros, solo el simulador está disponible para satisfacer el sueño. Te deseo lo mejor con tu simulador y te deseo ¡felices aterrizajes! 😊
