A big HELLO from Canada. Your home set up is absolutely AMAZING!!!! The best I have ever seen for a home sim. I am currently building a 172 set up, modeled after the one seen from "On The Glide Slope". THANK YOU for posting and sharing this information. It is so HELPFUL to the rest of us "flight simmers" who are not as technically inclined. LOVE all your videos. I hope you can find time to post MORE. Two thumbs up.
Truly inspirational! Particularly impressed with the throttle quadrant swap out, to give you some aircraft type flexibility, just in a matter of seconds!! But of course what makes this so special is the incorporation of the actual Piper shell. A real work of art and labour of love .
@@AlfredtwinSim Can´t wait to see some videos of it... can´t be very far from reality anymore with the stunning visiuals and detail MS showed so far...
Thanks for the video. Truly a work of art and love! I am a private pilot, and I quit flying when my children were young. When I retired I would start flying again. A couple of years ago I had a stroke and might not be able to fly real airplanes. So I have had in mind building a sim much like yours. Many thanks for your ideas and I wish you the best!
If the medical is the problem I can assure you that building such a sim is maybe also very much rewarding as a substitute. Especially since the hobby bring so many fields of interest together that make it a journey of its own. Glad I could inspire you and all the best for your upcoming plans.
@@AlfredtwinSim yes the medical is the primary reason for not flying. It is a lot of money on a fixed income as well but I haven’t had the chance to fly. I worked as a communication engineer and worked with avionics so it would be fun to put mine together.
This is why freedom is awesome. I've seen several sim setups and the regular people making setups for themselves outclass commercial simulators by entire leagues. Several of them have the potential to be put to use commercially if they make it easier to build. A bit of technology and a lot of passion is just incredible.
Thank you and absolutely. I flew brand new Level-D multimillion dollar sims and was surprised that they all have poor visuals. And general aviation setups are sometimes super expensive but not really that much attractive - the only thing missing with my setup is going the certification route than it would be a nice professional training sim. But maybe I sell it to a flight school one day to make space for new projects.
Nice to see someone singing the praises of force feedback. I use a custom ffb stick I made out of a old 40 dollar Microsoft ffb 2 stick and it's better than 500 dollar flight sticks. The flight sim world doesn't do enough to take advantage of this very amazing feature and people have no idea how much of a difference it makes when flying, especially a helicopter.
Actually I was not aware of this myself for a long time and the price did let me consider it even longer. But without it (it is the same for the shaker) I would not want to use it anymore.
Eine wirklich großartige Arbeit. Ich habe mir schon viele Cockpits angeschaut, mehr Carsims als Flysims, aber so etwas wie das hier, habe ich noch nie gesehen. Großen Respekt vor deiner Arbeit !
Dude that's some AMAZING home cockpit !! What a good job you did !! Result is AWESOME !! I wish I could do it in my little home for my military Flight Sim :)
Matt Vegas I’m a real professional pilot with over 23.000 hours but don’t see any reason to mention it. In any case I love the display; very impressive and congratulations.
@@gerardosalazar161 Actually being not a pilot in real life (I think both hobbies would be too much for my family) it is good to hear that my setup does resemble what real world pilots see as realistic - even though I am more on the building side and never really learned all those lovely procedures and communication to the level it should be looking at the rig.
Yes, but it is also the drag from the extended gear and flaps. Once it is cleaned up and throttle and mixture not in the max it is soon pretty quiet. But maybe I can make the lift-of moment even more noticeable.
Nice build...the real cockpit shell is icing on the cake...congratulations on a beautiful flight sim airplane!!! Enjoy it and fly the wings off of it!!! My first sim was made of plywood and pvc poe over thirty five years ago and i was using fs 2 by Atari and. Commodore 64 back in the stone ages:)..the sim comp packs have come a long since then ( Microsoft fs..and X plane))...thanks for sharing!!! I use laptops and VR goggle now looking forward to the MS 2020 package but I love my old school sim pack too!!
Thanks for commenting and indeed, I can remember my Commodore 64 well and thus have a clear idea of the long way we have come. VR can be interesting I am sure. But for me the smell and touch of a cockpit to physically be there is a must and so the experience is a different one. But the future will bring new technology so let’s see where we are in 10 years from now.
Like to see Elite Dangerous on this lol. I love my Buttkicker Gamer 2 with DCS. The first time I used it I landed on the carrier with the F18. I had it turned up too much and when I hit the deck it knocked a picture off my wall. Firing the gun is insane also. Kobuleti taxi way is separated by cement sections and when I taxi you can feel the bumps between the sections.
Honestly better than most 737 setups you see. Amazing work, I'm extremely jealous! Also what a great idea having the G1000s running on iPad, expensive but helps performance eh :)
thanks, took me quite some time to plan this massive video and gather all the information that I thought would be useful for others. Glad you enjoy it!
Damn man, this is great work... My problem with such a project (space and money aside) is: once i started with getting such a cockpit, i´d need several rooms, because i´d need one for a 2-seater, single-seater (fighter), one for a truck, for a GT car and so on... because, you know, immersion :D Much respect and greetings from Berlin :)
Hallo aus Wien nach Berlin! And glad you like it. Actually I have more sims under the work and one is a Mini Cooper sim in a real mini shell of course... But same here, need space for it to grow and my wife is not cooperative any more beyond what I have conquered in the house until now😀
Hi, I have a similar setup, that I had running fine for 5 years now, triple Optoma GT1080. But the last time I had actually used it was back in December 2019, when I had to upgrade my failing dual sli 780Ti to a GTX 2070 super, and the set up was working fine after a recalibration and few tests. Unfortunately, life took a turn, and I didn't get a chance to use the pit until very recently, and I find that while my windows 10 and NVIDIA drivers are up to date, something in windows messed up the setup, so I can only project to one projector on the main channel, the other two projectors won't even beam a signal, although individually, I have tested them and they all work fine. Secondly, they are no longer recognized as projector, so when I use the software Simpit Warp (a fork of Fly-Elise), it doesn't see any projectors (0x0) so I cannot warp it to fit the screen. I'm wondering if if you know what build of windows or update wrecked this, so I can go back to the build before, as I was told that you should not allow automatic updates lol. TBH, it's rough trying to find information regarding setups like ours as we're like 1 percent of 1 percent of gamers or simmers. Any ideas would be very helpful! Thanks!
When switching in nvidea between desktop surround mode and separate mode windows loses in the beginning all other screens than main screen. It should be quickly possible to assign those again, but I do not have remember unfortunately the steps. If that is the sole problem now you might fix it quickly. Fly Elise runs w/o problems?
The resolution of the projectors is a problem for me. Im currently shopping around for short throw 4k laser projectors for a future build like this. You can definitely see 1080 low resolution when blown up.
You are absolutely right - but driving 3 4k projectors would mean several very strong PCs - so no option for - mine is really state of the art and struggles with 3 times 1080 with all the add ons. But in a future build I might go for frame-less lcd screens - now not yet affordable.
Well those are two quite different hobbies - for me owning this piece - especially being a father of a young family with sometimes not more than 30min breaks to make a flight - it would be impossible to go somewhere an spend half the day there for a short flight. So building a sim just makes me build a bigger sim (with a faster and more complex aircraft).
I'm planning on making my own sim cockpit for DCS. I'm either gonna make an F/A-18 cockpit or F-16 cockpit. I've taken a lot of inspiration from Warthog Project's cockpit setup. I would make an A-10 cockpit, but I don't haven nearly enough familiarization with the platform.
Super awesome cockpit and great video! Loved the way you went through each part. I could only dream of someday having a cockpit half as good as what you've created. Nice work!
Great vid - very professional with a really clear structure and descriptions. Very inspiring to consider projectors, as I have always discounted that as an option due to limited space - ausgezeichnet.
He Just need to increase the range of the projectors, there are two huge gaps, all the rest is awesome including the vibrations in the cabin very realistic
Thanks for the comment, but I do not completely get what you propose. Where do you encounter those gaps? I can not make the picture even bigger and from the pilot's perspective there are not gaps in sight.
Excellent!
Try some rubber feet isolation from the floor and that transducer needs a more secure four corner bolt and nut fastening to the frame. Over all outstanding job. I use a Buttkicker system on my racing sim to much "vibe" does kill the realism of the effect.
I have 4 rubber isolating plates (quite expensive stuff that is used in industrial setups), although difficult to tell how much shaking is reduced by using those. The transducer is fixed with 2 screws - are you sure it would make any difference in going for more fixing? Can do that of course - thank for the idea. Well I onced tried to make a startup with 100% vibration power, wow that felt pretty immersive, but as soon as I throttled up it was too much and as you said did not just kill the effect but also the cockpit interior.
Hi, thanks - sorry for commenting late. First thing is to change the 3d model of the default King Air in a 3D software and delete the front part of the cockpit that would be visible. Then it is configured as Virtual cockpit view and need some adaptions to work correctly with FlyElise warping - which does in xplane11 generate some view errors when using warped display with a VC.
Hi Alfred. Very impressive built. Awesome. Question though about your curved screen and projectors. I have read a couple of times that night flying with projector and curved screen supposedly sucks (washed out runway lights ...i guess blurry?) Not sure though how old these statements are and if technology has gotten better? What is your experience with night flying using projectors and curved screen? Couldn't find a video of yours where you do a night flight. Would be great to read your 2 cents on that. Thanks a lot !!!
Thanks. Indeed, I do not use night time since the areas where the 3 projectors join show increased brightness. I would physically need to fix something sideways to the projection lense to maybe reduce it. Saying that with this thing solved I would not see further problems and night in general looks not that bad.
What an amazing home cockpit. I'm just starting to gather parts for my own build. The PFC throttle has me very intrigued due to the ability to swap out throttle types. Obviously it's very pricey though. I don't foresee flying airliners but I would like to have something 'realistic' for most GA aircraft and even some business jets. How difficult is the throttle to setup (is it 'plug and play' or does it require some setup in an app or programming)? Not much info out about it.
Hey man can you both fly the airplane? As in you and the other person? I thought the game configurations only allowed for one yoke to be active at the same time
It is not implemented since I am all the time alone or with my kids - who should not be able to interrupt the flight:) But it is now possible I read to switch positions.
Mirosoft needs to fix the side views. We need another direction movement to what I call Tow-in and Tow out. Notice this perfect simulator this Man made. However we still have the engines towed in so they are visable in the front windows.
Might I ask how much did it roughly cost and how long did it take to make it cuz I'd really love something like this but with a Cessna 172 but that dream is a tough one to reach since I want to be a pilot but I have no money to be one but hey I dont know what the future holds
I build my first sim for around 1000 EUR in 2 months, and it was not bad at all. I research a lot of time, so count in 2-3 years of designing and learning and planning. But you may get there much faster today. My setup did cost around 15k, so there are cheaper routes to get flying on a home cockpit I guess.
@@AlfredtwinSim Its gonna take a while though cuz I'm still 15 but yeah we will see. I will start small then who knows maybe one day I might have setup like yours.Anyways thanks for Responding :)
Actually no but I did mention all the details you might consider for such a build in the video. In the end of every section you find all the things in detail to look it up in the web as it might not be always easy to understand every thing that perfectly (i am not english native so did not want to rely on just voice). The internet is full of sources - just plan your build and your father might fly pretty soon!
@@billdavis9734 They might be better, but I had already the metal yoke handle and it was like half the price getting it from Flight Illusion - Brunner comes from outside the EU and thus is quite some investment in taxes - Flight Illusion offer you to use your yoke handle and they mount it onto their base - so it is quite a difference from the price point.
This is incredible! Is there any way that I could get in contact with you guys? My friend is building a Baron g58 simulator and he would love some pointers and some guidance from you guys!
There is a contact field on my website where you can reach me. But honestly I get around 2 inquiries for assistance a week and it is impossible for me to assist anyone as my own sim time is that much restricted due to work and family duties - so I better hope to have enough time again to make more videos - but I will try to make also more tutorials with more explanations.
Hello @ Alfred twinSim! Great work! I wonder about real aviation intercom sl-400, do you need a Real Transceiver to make it work or you just pug the headsets and you can have intercom?
There is a usb sound card that lets you connect aviation headsets to pcs via usb. It is there where I have just plugged in the intercom. It should be stated in the video what I used!
Actually yes, by the way I am moving to simracing/street drive simming… very difficult here to have a software that is customizable (views, etc) like flight simming
That is beautiful and that you're married is awesome. If I came home with a shell I'd might as well stop at the divorce attorney's first... LOL. That said, I have a question and I guess I could look this up. Are the aural warnings about where the aircraft is on the airport and how much runway is left, etc. something with G1000 avionics? I'm a very low time, 35 years ago steam gauge guy and only attempted one intersection take off. It would have been nice to have that kind of informational feedback.
haha - yes it does need an understanding wife to build something like this! Sorry for answering that late - no it is not from the G1000, it is a runway awareness system (xRAAS - it is mentioned in the video at the end). A free add on - very handy to have.

@@AlfredtwinSim Thank you. I appreciate your input !
7:27 if I didn’t know I would think it’s irl
What an amazing home cockpit. I'm just starting to gather parts for my own build. The PFC throttle has me very intrigued due to the ability to swap out throttle types. Obviously it's very pricey though. I don't foresee flying airliners but I would like to have something 'realistic' for most GA aircraft and even some business jets. How difficult is the throttle to setup (is it 'plug and play' or does it require some setup in an app or programming)? Not much info out about it.
sorry for the late reply! If it is still of interest, the setup is easy, you just have to assign the axes to your sim.
Amazing work! Well planned and executed. Respect!
Hey man can you both fly the airplane? As in you and the other person? I thought the game configurations only allowed for one yoke to be active at the same time
It is not implemented since I am all the time alone or with my kids - who should not be able to interrupt the flight:) But it is now possible I read to switch positions.
What kind of extreme computer setup do you need to rum all this stuff
Just a state of the art gaming pc with 3 outputs on a GPU. In my case an i9 with a gtx2080ti.
Mirosoft needs to fix the side views. We need another direction movement to what I call Tow-in and Tow out. Notice this perfect simulator this Man made. However we still have the engines towed in so they are visable in the front windows.
I'd love to have a cockpit style setup for my Star wars X-wing series and others classics **sigh**
Then just build it, I guess that should be possible...
@@AlfredtwinSim Unfortunately I don't have the space
When I watch you fly in the simulator it looked really realistic. I would be fooled if someone said that was real to me
thanks for the comment! It is indeed a very realistic feeling!
sheesh that sim bussin
The magic word is .........’perfect’
It can’t be better.
Wow, lovely!
I would love to recreate this for my father. Do you have parts list for hardware and software needed available?
Actually no but I did mention all the details you might consider for such a build in the video. In the end of every section you find all the things in detail to look it up in the web as it might not be always easy to understand every thing that perfectly (i am not english native so did not want to rely on just voice). The internet is full of sources - just plan your build and your father might fly pretty soon!
It’s beautiful! Do you know if you can use the flight ilussion force feedback as linked controls?
Sure you cam if you have two of them
Brunner yokes are much much better. I switched my 2 FI yokes for 2 Brunner CLS-E MK II's BIG DIFFERENCE.
Alfred !! SUPERB !!!
Absolutely phenomenal.
Wow, very nice!! Love it.
Hello @
Alfred twinSim!
Amazing. Did you work on moving the cabin?
Freaking Awesome!
Simply fantastic
Coming from simracing, I was pretty surprised to see force feedback are so rare in flight simulators
Actually yes, by the way I am moving to simracing/street drive simming… very difficult here to have a software that is customizable (views, etc) like flight simming
wooow What amazing job!! you are a genious
Very nice yoke! What brand is it?
Is that Brisbane Approach playing in the background?
It is mixed chatter from US and Oceania, so quite likely that there was a file from Brisbane!
