Funny, I just got a miniature pocket version of Galaga and for some reason the unit contains a modified port of this with a copyright of 2019 and you just press start instead of pressing 1 or 2 player.
actually in the arcade version it wraps after stage 255... I've seen it on MAME. The next stage is called "stage 0"... and the patterns reset too. In order for the score to show more than 999,990 points you have to play as player 2. But when the game ends and you get to the high score table it just shows the last 6 digits.
