After Derailment, Geometry Train & CP Train With DPU, Radar Speed Check On Norfolk Southern Railroad

- Train Derailed Same Spot As 6 Months Ago, CSX Geometry Train Going Around The Wye & Reversing Into Decoursey Yard. Fast Canadian Pacific Ethanol Tanker Train With DPU Locomotive Roaring On The Rear, Radar Speed Check On Norfolk Southern Train And CSX Auto Racks Train Passing Under Historic House In Kentucky. Trains In Covington & Walton, Kentucky Filmed Same Day.
A CSX train derailed in the Latonia section of Covington, Kentucky about 2am on a Tuesday morning. After my doctors appointment I went straight to the derailment area just south of East 33rd Street in Covington. The 4 auto racks cars that derailed stayed upright and were derailed and moved before I could get there. CSX was working on the track when I got there and the huge equipment was loaded onto trailers and ready to leave. I heard the CSX geometry train approaching at Mile Post 104 but I didn't know where that was. I also knew another train was coming from Cincinnati and heading south towards Decoursey Yard to run down the Corbin Sub. My video shows the ethanol train passing south before the geometry train. It had a Canadian Pacific locomotive on the front and on the rear in the Top And Tail mode. Minutes late the geometry train is seen going around the wye and then reversing into Decoursey Yard which was just out of the view. Covington is a No Train Horn Zone but we do hear the geometry train blow the horn for a crossing just north of the yard while it is reversing. See my video from the August 7 derailment. Just do it.
Then I headed to Walton, Kentucky to get some trains. I used my radar devise to check the speed of a Norfolk Southern train heading south in front of the Abner Gaines home. I finally brought it back due to popular demand. This mixed freight train had a DPU on the rear and was booking!
The last train is a CSX auto racks train running southbound behind the Abner Gaines home. This was the last train of the day for me. I was actually leaving when it came. There was just barely enough light for a decent video. The days are getting longer and I actually started filming this train at 6:26pm. About a month ago I couldn't film past 5pm. Listen to the locomotives roar by me as it goes around the tight curve. You can see a difference in the light at the beginning of that train and at the end. This CSX train came from Cincinnati and passed through the area of the derailment. It will pass through LaGrange on the street running track on its way to Louisville, Kentucky.
Filmed Tuesday, February 6, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Good morning to you Brian. I did a little research into #1713, an SD40 rebuild by CSX incorporating a GE L6 GEVO prime mover in place of the 645 V16 it was born with. What we have here is what I would call a Frankenstein locomotive, part EMD and part GE with an adaptation of a GE flared radiator to include 3 EMD cooling fans. CSX built at Huntington WV a small number of these things (13 total units.) It has been assigned to pull this geometry train since at least early January and the SP passenger car appears to be part of the regular consist for this particular train. CSX is calling this thing an SD23T4.
Thanks for the information 😊🎉
I got a CSX geometry train a couple months ago in Hamilton Ohio. I wonder if it had the same locomotive. I am going to check. I’m waiting on my plane right now at the airport. Got here 2 hours early. Way too early 😅😂
Good morning to you all -have a good day !
Good afternoon, Neil
You too!
Hello jt hope you are doing well
My name is Glenn Hilliker and my wife is Toni. We do not miss a video we love them all. Our anniversary is February 14th.
D-P-U-I-C-U, Interesting video today Jaw. Tanker train with DPU pusher, cleanup of derailment , train with vintage passenger cars. Train at the Abner Gaines home again, nice variety today.
Thank you very much!
I love the sound of a slow moving locomotive. Cool. 😊 You a toot salute . So awesome. Such a great video to see Mr JT. Thanks so much.❤Your Loki is some sweet dog. Chessie is a cutie . I love them all. So active. It's worth watching these special pets of yours. Take care Mr JT!❤😊
Thank you very much!
Luck was on your side so the camera didn't go home empty . Every time I see that CSX train I think some Railroad Club is holding a Charter trip on the line because of the mix of equipment. That was still looks like a junction of Branch lines since the homes are not up to the track and there's the big open field. On the 7th it's fun to note that the NS track inspection Brick got to spend the night in Streator IL on the Kankakee belt. These cars sure do make the rounds and maybe the guy in the car was pointing and saying "Hey that's Jawtooth back there" A freight with foreign power then a short Freight with cars of aluminum ingots and how the Sun held out just long enough to capture the autoracks.. . Always fun when a plan comes together especially when there was no plan
The geometry train was a good catch.
Thanks 😊
Great video JT. Canadian Pacific was a rare one for me. Looks like you are feeling better. I’m glad for you. ❤
I am! It has been rough but I'm coming out of it
When the track geometry car went through our section,we knew we'd be getting in some overtime..NICE CATCH JT.👍
CSX 1713 pulling the geometry train is a new ET23DCM rebuilt in CSX Huntington shop. Besides being Tier 4 compliant, it has a GEVO L6 engine. Not since the old days have you seen a locomotive with a competitors engine power. 1713 was a SD40-2 before being rebuilt using the GE engine and retaining the DC generators and traction motors.
Thanks for the information!
Thought it was a SD23T4.
@@aaronl_trains_and_planes Never heard it called that. CSX lists it on their roster as ET23DCM.
Nice to see some new views 👌 🙂
Yes 😊 Now that I am starting to feel better I will have new stuff in a week or so. I am just now getting ready to leave for Florida. It took me a lot longer to get better than I expected
Nice bookend matching CP power on that first train. A little toot salute at the Gaines House, nice. More cool bookend power on NS. Geometry train a plus and loved the low light shot of CSX. That wrecker passing by looked like it was lit up for Christmas. Great video, enjoyed it immensely. Thanks JT!
Thanks for watching 😊
I don't know why, but I particularly like the top and tail configuration. 2 examples on 1 video was a real treat.
Agree on the top and tail configuration. It's seems like there are more mid-train DPU's at least in the US.
Thanks for watching!😊
@@mikewigim2864I have noticed that also that there are more mid Train DPU instead of rear. 🎉
Always bad when a train derails and they move fast if it's on a main line. Always nice to see the geometry trains. I bet that would be a fascinating ride :) Very cool stuff!
Very true! I thought they would still be cleaning it up but they got right on it. Busy tracks
Jaw Tooth, I love it when your 'accent' makes it sound like you said something other than you did! LMAO!! :^)
Keep up the great work - we appreciate your efforts!!
May God always bless you
Good morning JT thanks for your content fantastic greetings from Scotland 😊
Good morning!
@@JawTooth 😃👍
I love seeing those rare Canadian National engines! ...Oh no - a Geometry train and I flunked out of Geometry decades ago! That derailment area still doesn't look good (wonky rail twists on tight curve) - please film all upcoming derailments there! ...A train horn in a no-horn zone too! Maybe because train is in reverse?
Thanks for watching 😊
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 👍🙏
Merci à vous 😊
@@JawTooth Très bonne journée ! 🖐🖐🙏
Another great video from Jaw Tooth. Good way to start the morning. Have a nice day 😊🌈
Thank you! You too!
Glad your feeling better Jawtooh
Thanks!
Covington Kentucky is a great looking area especially around the tracks there and glad that the derailment wasn't very bad. it also has a DPU and
i really just enjoyed watching for the trains and as well as the pets with the
Train Dogs and Norfie must have been hiding somewhere but thanks again
for your great videos Thank You.🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
You have to be careful in Covington. They get a lot of violence. There was a recent murder near the second spot where I filmed the geometry train. There was also a recent murder on the bridge that I have filmed from over the tracks. I could tell some stories about the area but I dont want to ruin it. It is a great place to watch trains as long as you are careful and stay attentive.
That geometry train was a awesome catch!! First time I've ever seen one.
Thanks! I have got it before and I got the Norfolk Southern one also
@@JawTooth your welcome.
(@17:23) - I guess the tow truck driver thought it was still Christmas with all those lights! 😊
Lol😊
Wow how nice to see Canadian pacific locos pulling a bunch of tank cars😊❤

A CPKC tanker train and a CSX geometry train with an odd locomotive and another train with a DPU. Great video JT.
Thank you very much!
Very cool! I spotted that geometry train at Hancock yard last fall.
Shame a fellow has to go to work; that would have been a fun one to chase.
Hey jaw tooth lots of great trains. Glad you're feeling a lot better. Geometry train was a lucky catch. . Hope you have a great time in Florida train watching. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋♀️
Great video JT!! Geometry train was interesting. Like the solid glass end of that car and the camera caught the people inside just perfect. Good catch with that auto tack train at the end of your journey!! thanks for all the miles you put in and the cold you stand out in JT, to bring us the rails. Until next time!!
Thanks 👍
I remember that derailment video, and now a speed check wow, thanks JT no one does it better than you👍👍

Very cool old SP passenger car.

I love trains!!!!!!!
Great video JT. Good catch of that test train, really interesting.
Thank you very much!
Things change, My Dad (a steam engineer) used to call the engines at the rear of a train "Helpers!" This was before the days of DPU's.

Very cool! Was it the same one?
@@JawTooth Yes it was. I saw it went west a few days after i saw it. If you ever get out this way there are some great rail fanning places here. Hummelstown is about 4 miles west of Hershey.

Well the waiting was worth it in the end. Great catches JT. And a bonus on the way home again. 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
You got that right!
I like train videos on RUclips dpu alright 👍
Tooth! Those CP trains always look dirty.
I still think you oughta get a drone. Even low priced ones have auto launch, auto return and auto land. Almost impossible to crash.
Another great vid,JT!
Thanks again!
Great video, Jaw Tooth My wife Sarah Trogdon birthday is tomorrow the 9th
Great videos as usual
Glad you like them!
nice catch JT!!!!
Thanks!
Good morning Brian, another great video.
Thanks 👍
Thank You Jaw Tooth
JT: derailment probably caused by curve designed for 40 to 50 foot cars. Now under PSR they’ll run 70-80 foot cars and see what happens,
Good morning JawTooth ! Hope you’re healing up well! Great video!
Hello there! I am getting better
Cool video, as always

Good Morning Jaw Tooth.

@@JawTooth enjoy your trip ♥️
A little thermite welding, maybe?? Manditory horn blow on a reverse move. Great vids, JT!!! GPU and pet wrestling,TOO!!! OUTSTANDIN' !!!
Thanks for watching!
Whoever was manning the geometry car didn't get the memo about "No Train Horn".
If I recall from the "that's railroadin'" channel, they use phosphorous to weld the rails.
Apparently the guys in the geometry car didn't see the sign "No Train Horn Zone".
Good video
Thanks
Thomas Youhg has the same birthday as my late Father, who would have been the age of 88 this year. He passed in 2015 after a year long battle with cancer. Still, Happy Birthday to Thomas. Live long and prosper.
Nice Video
Thanks
I have rode right where you say those folks. One would be the the Roadmaster, the. On the other side would be the Regional Engineer. Along with the Director of Track.
The CSXT/C&O 6025 used to host the honor of leading this particular Geometry Train.
😅i am happy to see yor video now, mine comp was grused for the 3th time. i have reboot the system, lol, it was a wonder that he starts up.how i do that is a mistery.lol. greetz:🍐Peer.
Hi JT. How about a shout out for me for my birthday. I'll be 63 on February 26th. I've been watching your videos for at least 7 years, probably longer. I'm from just up the Ohio River from you in Pittsburgh.
I hope you doing better after your surgery brother.
The CP train has a top and tail arrangement.
A whole lot of whiskey!
I wondered if you went over to check it out!
