Hello nice tutorial...i am brown skin..but my problem with my hair i have grey hairs and its really annoys me everyweek i have to color my hair..what color can you recommend for me?i want to color my hair and i want that it should be same as my grey hair...but i have a brown skin tone..Thankyou
for all the pros on here saying "just go to a salon, don't risk it, etc..." Sounds like sound advice, if only it was more affordable to have the luxury to do so on the regular. It's literally why these videos exist.
Right... and it’s not that we don’t appreciate our hairdresser’s talents - we do! It’s just we can’t always pay the price and we have to make do with DIY jobs. So instructional like this can be very helpful and again, appreciated.
Kim Howard any kind of beauty service is considered a luxury service , that’s why we’ve paid so much to go to school because professionals are the ones who are supposed to do hair to maintain its health. RUclips university isn’t a real thing and people think they can skip out on the education and just do it themselves when that’s not how it works.
I’m not saying that in a rude manner at all I promise , I’ve just seen so many people mess up their hair from trying to do it themselves then they end up having to pay twice as much to get it fixed . Balayage and special techniques should be done by a professional that has the education to back it up , coloring your hair at home of course can be done by someone DIY , but highlights and special techniques etc I feel should be handled by professionals who know the ins and outs of how the hair works and how to maintain its health . ❤️❤️
As a stylist whose been doing her hair own hair for years this is exactly how i’ve been doing mine for awhile now. This method does work. Actually touching up my blonde today! Great video.
I can't thank you enough Sylvia , After my hairdresser went on leave and another girl over bleached my foiled hair so badly I honestly thought my hair would never recover...but 6 months later no trip to the salon I've been re touching my hair with your steps of baby lights and hand painting. My hair is so happy . Thank you from the bottom of my heart xx
I’ve often wondered if I could pull off doing my balayage maintenance at home to save the expense of the salon. This video made me realize that no, I most certainly cannot. Will gladly keep giving my hair stylist my money because you guys are wizards
Chandra Cox Nope. Some people don’t have the skills for it and will ruin their own hair. Either practice on wigs first until you’re an expert or go to a hair stylist. Even if you succeed on a mannequin, it’s still super hard to do it on your own head. I would wanna do this but I’ll mess it up so I rather just use the eZn foam bleach to lighten my hair
Oh my dear lord, I just love the comments "No you can do this yourself". Ok, Karen. I totally thought those bleach do it yourself pre-hole cut plastic wraps from Arbor Drugs in order to create the perfect chunky hilight was the total shit back in 1997, but no one actually thought that was a good look. This is why we pay people to do what they do, because they know how to do it.
Every one of her technique videos are laden with comments from "professionals" chastising and demeaning anyone who says they will try this in just the most inappropriate way. The insecurity has a toxic air, but completely fails to realise that there armys of single moms, small town girls without a decent salon, working through college etc all willing to take a chance vs doing without, they have every right, it's their own hair, they arent liable to anyone else, and many of them do a good job, al learn from it regardless. One day they will have the money to spend, and will find the right stylist for them, dont hate and it may be you. Personally I got tired of crying over a $300 bad color, cut and style, so as I learned I laughed at myself instead. My hair now has never been healthier, and I have never been happier, we weren't all meant to be your clients, don't feel bad, I do my own mechanics too because women are beasts!!!
Finally someone said this in a succinct way. Not to mention, I cannot tell you the countless articles I’ve stumbled upon that are meant for professional hairstylists/colorists that give advice and ways to make ‘idiot proof’ services ‘seem’ more ‘high end’ with the single purpose of making the client BELIEVE that they can’t do it at home and they also tell you how to ‘justify’ [AKA:: fool, trick] charging higher prices. So for example: they say to never charge based on the amount of time it takes to ‘install’ hair extensions ‘because it’s a fairly simple and straightforward process’ and then it goes on to advise the reader in multiple workarounds for getting the most money out of the client. I respect the work and even more so respect stylists with actual talent but I hate the trend of hairstylists being snobby and condescending...even the broke ones /awful ones. Anywho.
Jennifer, I love the way you said this! And I agree. The negativity from stylists is unnecessary. Your words and confidence in your hair inspires me to follow through with doing this at home! Thank you for the reminder that women are awesome!
You make a good point about crying over $300 cut/color/style. I’m tired of paying money to “high-end” salon hairdressers who do a shitty job. I’m ready to just learn to do it myself. It’s not rocket science, they act like mixing shit together is something only highly skilled ppl can figure out. Yes, it does take a lot of research and following the instructions, but normal ppl can do this themselves. The disasters happen when ppl don’t read the instruction or are too impatient and cut corners or they’re trying something that their hair can’t do
Absolutely love this tutorial, and have been using this technique at home the last year and a half with amazing results! My hair is much healthier now that I'm only doing this 3x a year and it's the longest its been in a decade due to the lack of breakage from not bleaching it constantly! Thanks for this video! 😁❤
Marie Wilfong yes! But you can buy bleach and developer (use 20 vol since her bleach has bonder she bumped to 30 vol). Then to root tap buy 6n in wella, for toning try something like 9na and 10n! Make sure root tap and toner are Demi or semi permanent, they will have their own processing fluid, do not use 20 vol! Best of luck!
I'm a hair stylist of 12yrs & am about to use this technique on myself! I was also trained by Redken & use their products as well; this is for sure the easiest technique to do a DIY baylayage! You go girl! Deffo a helpful video! Thanks fellow stylist,😋😎😍

Don’t want to be annoying but my hair is SO THICK & LONG this shit takes me foreverrrrr wish I lived closer to you! Thanks for the helpful video xxxx
Thank you thank you thank you for making this!!!!!!! I have never gotten my hair to lift to where I needed it to be or get the tone I wanted, but now it’s perfect!!!!!! My banding is gone and so is a majority of the warmth I had. I’m so happy! Thank you!!
I tried this! Didn't use proper foil and stripped some kitchen which was difficult to work with so definitely invest in salon foil. I also used the Moroccan sand root tap and then blended a little of that with the mist EQ for my overall toner. I am no expert and the bleaching was far from perfect - although colour lifted fine, the toners really make the look and fix and unwanted orange as well as blending the bleach lifted parts. Would highly recommend if you have lockdown hair woes! Thanks so much Silvia! I love my new hair and can't believe I managed to sort my blonde out as I'm a natural brunette! X
This video came just in time. I'm putting in my hi lights today. I just noticed something I must have missed in passed videos. Teasing the root before bleach application... hmmm... Gloss at the root... I'm thinking that's going to help with hot roots, that struggle is real for me which, is why I avoid going above a level seven lately. Love it...
You are simply the best on youtube, sharing all this knowledge. Thanks to your tutorials I have been able to maintain my hair at home and usually asked where I get my hair done and getting compliments. Thank you 💖💖
Looks so easy to do it by yourself, but I know that it's hard... Want to take a risk and to do a touch up on my roots by myself. Thanks for sharing with us. You help us to find a right and easy way to do.🥰♥️💐
Your videos have helped me so much. I am unable to go to a hairdresser to have my hair coloured as sitting at the shampoo bowls can be quite damaging to my neck (I have EDS, my joints dislocate and partially dislocate v easily). But I love being creative with hair colour and thanks to people like yourself, Ive learnt how to do it myself. Been doing it for about past 30 years, luckily have never ruined my hair doing it myself. Although sometimes my colour choices have been questionable! 😂 Thankyou for teaching us, and being respectful about it! I'd love to be able to have a professional do my hair, while I sip tea and gossip with the hairdresser! But unfortunatly its not something I can do. Your hair always looks great. 😃 🌹🌹🌹 Edit: dodgey spelling! 😂
It’s now May 15th, 2020. I have been trying so SO hard to keep my unlicensed/uninformed hands off of my hair but I have an incredible lack of self discipline, my balayage has completely grown out and Im seeing way too much of my natural hair color for the first time in like.. i dunno .. how old would you be in 5th grade? Well, take whatever that age is and minus it from 30. Anyway, I can’t take it anymore and I’m just gonna go for it. I’m so happy to have this video as a guide and a great source of information. Wish me luck!
When i bleached my hair for the first time i did a great job.I was not scared i had no clue how it will came out.I just did it. But than when i saw some bleach fails on youtube.I thought i could fail aswell like them. And now here I m failing every time.Bcoz im scared.I think we should never be scared. Its hair.It will grow out or we can cut it off.
@@mywavesofgrain bcoz all the time i think what if my hair breakes off, what if i let it to much the process, what if i need to cut it teally short. And all the unnesesary thoughts. Then i let it not enough sit on my hair or it comes patchy out. So better if i didnt watch all the videos bcoz i would be more comfident now and maube i would react in the right time.
Oh my gosh. Watching you do the back of your hair just by the 'feel' of painting it...showed what a MASTER you are. I need to come to San Fran . to see you.:)
After spending $300+ for multiple botched highlights/balayages, this video is a god-send. I have been doing my own platinum blonde for years but want to transition to something more dimensional.
love all the videos ,makes it seem so easy but the public does not have access to redken shades eq hair colors, the only hair supply there is ,is SALLY which doesnt carry them
I really want to learn how to do this myself!! Ive spent $300 this year getting my hair done twice..both times ive showed the hairdresser exactly what I want and my hair somehow never looks like the pics😑. This time specifically said i want my hair brighter/blonder and its actually darker...
It's not very hard to do, just make sure you do a strand test to see how your hair will lift using whichever products you choose :) and if you're doing the whole head and you're slower, do one half, process, wash etc and then do the other one. Do not rush or over process
To #ElleBangs, this video is amazing!!! I ordered all of these products a couple of months ago and have been scared to try this... but, I literally just got done doing this and my hair turned out so perfect! It’s not as light as yours, but that is because I wanted to keep it a bit more natural. I would say if someone has never done anything with their hair, go watch pros do it first in person. I used to bleach all of my hair for years but was not brave enough to try hightlights because it takes skill. But, ElleBangs, you are an awesome teacher and again, thank you so much!!! I love my hair! 💋
Can't wait to watch this! I used your babylights tutorial and mixed it with what I've learned through other stylists on RUclips and Instagram videos (and filmed a video that I still haven't posted) and it went really well! Maybe I'll try this next! :)
I just want to thank you for all your help, you look gorgeous being pregnant as well. you an Adam remind me of me and my bf. you two are funny, you can tell you guys have been together in pandemic. lol I will try me best to follow this video and I will let you know how my hair turns out. just waiting for the rest of my product to get here.
I'm still trying to finish the very first bottle of Olaplex (got it cause your recommended it and what a life saver for the daring and DIY girl, like myself). The Redken kit is easier to use. I only used it once (because I had to try it). Can't wait to finish it so I can see how the Redken bonder works over time.
Have watched you for a long time, I'm a stylist and also do my own hair. Thank you for sharing, but the hardest thing for me is teasing the hair and getting the teasing out.
WOW! this is amazing! I love your hair. You made it look so easy and flawless! Id never attempt this at home but thank you for showing us how to do this!!
Wow! You are really good! I have watched so many tutorials on easier ways to do my own hair. By far, your's was so much more helpful. I've always done my own hair ( I did go to cosmetology school) and I'm a fellow Blondie. Thank you for simplifying this difficult task.
I cant imagine using all these products. The only time I ever colored my own hair hair I used 3% hydrogen peroxide and my hair looked good and stayed soft
I usually never comment but I have to for this one. A week ago I went to the salon and they completely botched my balayage… I went in again (because I complained) for a complimentary re-do and it still looked so bad! So much banding and ORANGE at the roots, yuck! I came across this video and bought everything you mentioned. Honestly, after the bleaching i was a bit horrified… still some orange bits.. but I persisted with the Shades EQ and it came out SO well in the end I’m so happy with it. You are amazing. Thank you for saving my hair and saving me ££!! 🤍🤍
ellebangs thank u so much , I love beauty and hair mostly is my passion to learn more and be successful in this field , thank u for helping a lot of ppl ❤️❤️❤️
ellebangs I hope so I graduated in end of June and I got my license, I worked in a saloon for a month but the onwer said it was a low season and she couldn’t do it anymore , my question is how did u get started ? and what I can do so I can get hired in a saloon , like I looked for an assistant job , but nothing yet ? Like I word in a saloon as assistant before for 3 years but not the state , so do u have any advice for me how I could get started in the field
Taz Star get hired at a salon that continually offers continuing ed. I worked for Toni and Guy straight out of school. Mandatory classes. 1 year for cutting. 2 for color.
It looks good so she did something right ... I’m a hairstylist n the only thing I do at home is cuts or all over color ... but I can’t imagine trying to highlight my own hair
Oh my gosh thank you so much for making this video! I am a licensed hairdresser of over 10 years and I am super picky about my hair. I have tried to have others get me to the blonde that I want and nobody has able to do that for me. I’m going to Cosmoprof tomorrow and purchasing theLeitner and toner that was recommended. And will be doing my own hair for now on
How do you maintain blonde high lights. Be all my life I would to dye my hair light brown and I would pull my hair through the cap, put the bleach on the hair on cap. Leave it in an hour then rinsed it. I always used revlon color silk in light brown and purchased the revlon high lighting kit. But every 3to 4 month I would repeat the process. Now at 58, I have gotten really exhausted to continue doing it. So I did it a year ago all over my hair the high lights the following month the grays were out. So I went to a salon. The lady just did my top of my hair by she said I had done my high lights like a professional. I worked at Sally Beauty Supplies for almost 8 years. And I never used their products by I was use to using what I always used. I am still doing my high lights. I love to do it. Only that I am getting older. It’s harder. Enjoyed your video. Take care.❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I love your videos and I’m learning so much on how to do my hair. Thank you so much 😊 for your tips and everything you do . What color do you use for your base color .
I love that color, i don’t understand why my hair colorist or other people I have been to can’t ever get it to blonde I’ve literally been over 5 times! 😩
This video helped me correct an unsuccessful discoloration in my hair 😂😂😂😍. congratulations on the channel is wonderful and helps a lot. I'm from Brazil and I love your videos 🇧🇷
OMG, this is so hard! I def won't to it at home. Btw, I actually love a tad darker colour on you especially on the front. This blonde seems like too much.
Cool video! Will maybe try out in the future! Just got home from a so called stylist and this is the color i asked him to do... He just put radom strippes in my hair and told me at the end that what i asked for is too pricey and that he wanted to keep my hair healthy so he just did what he wanted... I could have put nasty strippes myself at home and save my money in the process because he charged a lot of money for his "masterpiece".This is for the people who tell you to go to the salon. I went and paid a lot of money to look like a clown :)))) Not to mention this salon should be the best in my town... #feelingsad
Ive only met a couple of hairdressers that actually listened and involved me throughout, and it turned out just how i wanted. They closed down :(. Over the years it must have added up to thousands of wasted $ to feel uncomfortable and get results that i didnt want. I do my own now! No idea what im doing but it ends up closer to what i actually want than these experts. These videos are a real help, along with a toner!

You help us to find a right and easy way to do.🥰♥️💐
Gayane Khachaturyan how did it turn out
@@mylifeassoph43 Amazing! But it was a little difficult))
I just did a platinum card technique on my own head, this video was so helpful for future applications!
Thankyou for teaching us, and being respectful about it! I'd love to be able to have a professional do my hair, while I sip tea and gossip with the hairdresser! But unfortunatly its not something I can do.
Your hair always looks great. 😃 🌹🌹🌹
Edit: dodgey spelling! 😂
It’s now May 15th, 2020. I have been trying so SO hard to keep my unlicensed/uninformed hands off of my hair but I have an incredible lack of self discipline, my balayage has completely grown out and Im seeing way too much of my
natural hair color for the first time in like.. i dunno .. how old would you be in 5th grade? Well, take whatever that age is and minus it from 30.
Anyway, I can’t take it anymore and I’m just gonna go for it. I’m so happy to have this video as a guide and a great source of information. Wish me luck!
I’m soooo glad you filmed this video. Now I know I CAN’T do this at home. Lol 🙏🏼
When i bleached my hair for the first time i did a great job.I was not scared i had no clue how it will came out.I just did it.
But than when i saw some bleach fails on youtube.I thought i could fail aswell like them. And now here I m failing every time.Bcoz im scared.I think we should never be scared. Its hair.It will grow out or we can cut it off.
tolya A don’t be scared 😊
Why failing?
@@mywavesofgrain bcoz all the time i think what if my hair breakes off, what if i let it to much the process, what if i need to cut it teally short. And all the unnesesary thoughts. Then i let it not enough sit on my hair or it comes patchy out. So better if i didnt watch all the videos bcoz i would be more comfident now and maube i would react in the right time.
Oh my gosh. Watching you do the back of your hair just by the 'feel' of painting it...showed what a MASTER you are. I need to come to San Fran . to see you.:)
You are amazing! How you can do the back of your head is beyond me! Absolutely lovely!!
Seriously!!! 😱 I was up at 4 am looking up your videos on how to balayage at home! lol
Your hair looks stunning here.
Dark natural root
Bright throughout, not too ashy. Mostly bright and glossy
After spending $300+ for multiple botched highlights/balayages, this video is a god-send. I have been doing my own platinum blonde for years but want to transition to something more dimensional.
You're the best! 🥰 Thanks to your tutorials my hair is blonde & healthy & looking like it was done by a pro! 😉
love all the videos ,makes it seem so easy but the public does not have access to redken shades eq hair colors, the only hair supply there is ,is SALLY which doesnt carry them
Watching this now to retouch my hair. Here’s to quarantine highlights lol
I'd like to see Brad Mondo react to this video!
Morgan Nichols brad mondo isn’t that great
Some of the diagonal partings at her part line make me very very nervous. Legit 🐅 🐯
Why? She's a cosmetologist..
Love your videos Sylvia! and congratulations on your new baby girl!
Where did you buy the redkin products from?
That's what I want a long time. It is absolutelly perfect. I try it tomorrow. Thank You! ♥️
I love your videos. You are saving my life with these.
Beautiful work! So original from you to do your own hair, and the blonde suits you so perfectly! 🤩👌🔥
Goodness this is a treasure trove of a video for diy. Going to try this!! Thank you so much
Have watched you for a long time, I'm a stylist and also do my own hair. Thank you for sharing, but the hardest thing for me is teasing the hair and getting the teasing out.
WOW! this is amazing! I love your hair. You made it look so easy and flawless! Id never attempt this at home but thank you for showing us how to do this!!
THIS IS THE VIDEO THAT WE ALL WERE LOKING FOR! THANKKK YOUU SO MUCH! ♥️
This would take me forever to finish but the results are well worth it 🤩
Thank YOU .
Omg someone has Finely showed us and did it slow so we can learn also
Sucks Australia doesn't have the Redken toner
Was waiting for this video for forever☺️ thank you for posting this!!!
Thank you for all your wonderful tips and tutorials I've learnt so much ❤
Tried this on my mom and it turned out perfect! Thank you!
Do you have the list of the products she used?
@@caroltyler2001 it’s in the description of the video. Check with your local salon too :)
Wow! You are really good! I have watched so many tutorials on easier ways to do my own hair. By far, your's was so much more helpful. I've always done my own hair ( I did go to cosmetology school) and I'm a fellow Blondie. Thank you for simplifying this difficult task.
Just amazing! You make it look so easy doing it on yourself 🤣
Learned it all from you girl! Thank you for these!!!
Your hair and color is sooo pretty
This is the best I’ve seen you luck I wish I can get my hair like that❤️
I cant imagine using all these products. The only time I ever colored my own hair hair I used 3% hydrogen peroxide and my hair looked good and stayed soft
Wow looks super awesome, I bet it must be hard to do your own hair.
No se inglés alguien me puede ayudar a saber que tener se pone en el cabello que decoloro ayuda porfavor
Wow, thanks for posting professional tips. Very informative.
I love it thanks for sharing

@@MBeautyTalent aw this means so much to me! YOu are going to kick some ass in FL
ellebangs I hope so I graduated in end of June and I got my license, I worked in a saloon for a month but the onwer said it was a low season and she couldn’t do it anymore , my question is how did u get started ? and what I can do so I can get hired in a saloon , like I looked for an assistant job , but nothing yet ? Like I word in a saloon as assistant before for 3 years but not the state , so do u have any advice for me how I could get started in the field
Taz Star get hired at a salon that continually offers continuing ed. I worked for Toni and Guy straight out of school. Mandatory classes. 1 year for cutting. 2 for color.
😂 This is too good! I was watching your old ones and about to do it.
IKR! I always rewatch her videos before I do my hair! Like players watching game tapes before the big game lol! Never hurts to refresh!
I love your hair, Elle!! It's beautiful!! ❤
this is a great way to get yourself involved in a serious color correction
Love her, I’ve been watching for years. Also I want that shirt lol!
You are beautiful, inside and out! Thank you for your videos, they have saved me many times!
Yay, thanks for watching and congrats on the pretty hair.
And will be doing my own hair for now on
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing girl!
This would take me forever to finish although the results are well worth it 🤩
I wish I had the patience to do my hair the way you do, looks great
Yay! Blonde specialist...??? .love it!💯
I love the way you do everything 💖💖💖💖💖💖
I’d recommend doing the front last if you don’t work fast, they’re the most fragile.
Take care.❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I love these type of videos!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Thanks really helpful video, your hair came out awesome
Your natural hair is a beautiful auburn color
Omg Sylvia, I actually love your hair brown!!❤️
I love your videos and I’m learning so much on how to do my hair. Thank you so much 😊 for your tips and everything you do .
What color do you use for your base color .
Thank you or this! I did have some questions about the teasing technique and you answered them
yay! Yeach, clients always ask, why the teasing?! it makes a world of difference!
Quarantine made me look for this videos
I love that color, i don’t understand why my hair colorist or other people I have been to can’t ever get it to blonde I’ve literally been over 5 times! 😩
Crissy Lee there’s tons of factors that go into lifting color. A stylist needs to do a thorough consultation before starting. Also, bring pictures!
Same! Always ends up brassy and not blonde enough
Wow. You have ALL the videos I want to use!
This is awesome . Can you tell me what did you use ? I do t understand what toner number you used . Thanks
This video helped me correct an unsuccessful discoloration in my hair 😂😂😂😍. congratulations on the channel is wonderful and helps a lot. I'm from Brazil and I love your videos 🇧🇷
You did so well in this video. Products and visuals, thank you!
Adam and I definitely worked hard on this one. It took two days of filming and days of editing, so this is so nice to hear. Thank you!
Gorgeous 🥰 thank you for sharing
Awesomeness! Also, I think that's pretty hardcore you did this without gloves! ;-)
Such a great video! I will have to follow at home’ thanks for sharing ❤️
Very nice soft toner
