      @@NogginNogs I don't like it when people waste the LB3 meter. LB3s are usually only a thing in 8 man fights, and there are a few fights where I really would rather prefer we save it for healer LB. I've personally saved a few wipes with a healer LB3 and I've been in groups where another healer has done so on a number of times. Now, if it's an easy fight and you're at 10% left with everybody alive, then sure, it's probably safe. But if people are dying and being rezzed, please hold off on that. Let the healer have it until you get to 10% or less.

    I don't know if anyone in your chat answered your question about how the video was made but most dungeons have an "Explorer Mode" after you have completed them once, You can go into those dungeons and use your limit breaks in them as many times as you want. You can also just use it to explore the environments at your own pace and read little lore notes that are lying around in some of them without slowing down a group. They can also be a really great spot for gposing for some impressive pictures of your character.

    The monk LB3 only moves your hitbox _up to_ the boss, even though the animation will send the character model through the boss.
    So the only way it can send you off an edge is if there's an edge _between_ you and the boss (which can happen sometimes, but most boss arenas are circles or squares where the boss is always between you and the edge).

    Paladin, White Mage, Black Mage, and Monk were the original LB3 for every job of the same role, before each job got their own unique animation, so theirs tend to not be as flashy since they were developed earlier. And yes, it was really wierd watching a Dragoon throw away their spears to do a magic punch.
    The exception is Black Mage, cuz Meteor is meant to be super flashy, they actually had to tone it down cuz it was too flashy.

      Also can't forget that Bard and Machinist both originally used Healer LB3 (The White Mage one), then Bard had it's LB3 made for Ranged Physical during mid-Heavensward I think, then I want to say in Stormblood Machinist finally got it's own LB3. And Shadowbringers on down, every class gets a unique LB3 spell effect. Every category has the same effects of all of their LBs just different animations at LB3, LB1 & 2 are identical among a whole category.

  • @rhael42

    7:35 it actually depends on the scenario. Melee is the goto for single target damage, but the moment there's a second target, ranged and caster LB become more beneficial (this is even more relevant in dungeons because a caster LB on a trash pack will always be better than melee LB on a boss). However, healer LB is used the most during progression because a party-wide res can keep the pull going - occasionally tank LB can be used for this as well to force a pull to keep going through a very heavy raidwide. Additionally, some fights will _require_ the use of specific LBs for mechanics, the most common example being requiring tank LB3 in order to survive unavoidable damage.
    bonus fun fact: before LBs were differentiated with the release of heavensward, bard had healer lb due to the class being an actual support role instead of fully dps at the time

      When I play RDM, I'm very careful about when I pop the LB3 (and more often than not, someone else takes it before I can even try to use it). I'm quite proud of the fact that out of all the times I've used the RDM's LB3, I've only accidentally wiped the group *one* time. I also had a moment where at the end of the final Stormblood 24-man Raid, I did my RDM LB3 at the exact same time as the RDMs in the other two alliances, so the final boss got nailed by a triple Vermillion Scourge (which was enough to end the fight right then and there). I like to imagine that scenario resulting in the boss being there one second, and then the triple VS goes off and once the blindness has subsided, all that's left of the boss is a scorched and smoking crater. :P

    All LB3's have a pretty long animation lock meaning they have a wind up and a a few seconds after where you cant move, the NIN LB feels very restrictive and kinda fun to use in that regard since the job is so high in APM when you finally get to slap the LB3 and just stand there and pump out a 100 handsigns and summon the swords it's a great change of pace, although you also kind of get locked out of certain timings for it if you want to optimize.

  • @Lagzlot

    Imagine if WoW used the limit break system, ie a big ultimate move per class that can only be used from a partywide resource. In FF, it would be as simple as "x uses the lb because their class does the most damage" or "healer, we need a mass rez now" but in WoW there wouldn't be enough salt in the ocean to compare to the meter wars over who uses the LB to pad their numbers.

    • @tjl9458
      @tjl9458 11 месяцев назад +3

      Well, FFLogs handles that by having the Limit Break be separate damage from all the players. It's done by the same people who make Warcraft Logs, so they'd probably do something similar.

    • @Zendelxex
      @Zendelxex 11 месяцев назад +2

      On top of the fact the LB dps is separated in logs, and depending on when the LB is used, it can considered a dps loss especially if it is done during a burst window. It is also recommended any dps who have a dmg down or had only recently revived to use the LB instead.

  • @Setulge
    @Setulge 11 месяцев назад +9

    Limit breaks depend on the situation. Sometimes you need tank LB3, most of the time melee LB3 is used because it attakcs singke target but if you don't have a melee in your party, you use any of the other ones. Both ranged and magical dps LB3 is a attacks a group of mobs but one is a circle and the one is in a line. Healer LB3 is reserved only for worse case scenarions (like, everyone is dead and healer is on like... 10 HP and does a saving throw).
    Edit: Most parties fear RMD LB3 tho because it's super flashy and can blind you. It's especially bad if the boss is like at 3% and decided to do an attack which you will not see. I... might have been guilty of that crime xD

    • @ckwi2245

      Job release time doesn't really correlate to their LB3, as most of the LB3s were added a few expansions after the original jobs. What you really notice is who's got the oldest animation, which would be PLD, WHM, BLM, and MNK. --Until at least Stormblood no classes had their own unique LB3 Animation, and BRD/MCH didn't even have one for the ranged physical role initially, it was shared with healers instead.--
      Edit: Nevermind, just double checked, all the unique LB3 Animations began in 3.0 Heavensward Release. Who still uses the original animations is still true, and BRD originally using Healer LB3 is also still true, rest is wrong.

Like generally speaking you won’t see those except in situations like this video, but the devs went through the effort to add those touch to details, also yeah the older jobs for some clearly take a more simple approach compared to the later additions of the same role as an example white mage and scholar are very simplistic compared to astro and sage (I’d personally expect a flower themed light show on par with sage’s tree form white mage)

    Melee DPS gets priority on the LB most of the time, but there are occasions where it's better for alternate roles to do it. For example, in the last fight of Praetorium, when Gaius puts those four copies of himself in all the corners. If there's a ranged DPS in that party, they should use the LB to damage two of the adds at once.

    Typically, the older the job, the less flashy the LB3.
    So, Pal, Warrior, White Mage, Scholar, Summoner, Lancer, and all the other jobs you can choose to start out as.
    Ninja was introduced in the ARR patches
    DRK, MCH and AST Heavensward
    SAM and RDM in Stormblood (Sam being one of the ones that is less flashy while being "newer")
    DNC and GNB in Shadowbringers
    Sage and Reaper in Endwalker
    Now there is a good chance that A LOT of people do not know this, but LB3 use to not be job specific but role specific.
    Paladin's current LB3 was the Tank LB3, same with White Mage and Black Mage being the Healer and Caster LB3 respectively.
    I do not remember what the LB3 for melee was. Did not play any of those back then.
    Stormblood I think is when they made LB3 job specific?

I want to say BRD/MCH got the line AoE LB3 in --late-- HW. Generally when a job released has little bearing on it's LB3, the only noteworthy exceptions are who "kept" a shared LB3, which in this case is PLD/WHM/BLM/MNK --and kind of BRD--.

    The MNK LB won't make you fall off; while the character appears to be moving forward for the attack, their actual position remains the same all throughout the execution, only the model moves for the strike.
    It is basically how they fixed the DRG's Jump / High Jump as it used to move you forward, land and strike then jump back to where you were so it happened often that you'd end up jumping in at the end of an enemy's AoE being cast and taking a hit. Now, Jump / High Jump has you remain where you are but the character model does visually jump, land and strike then jump back visually while your actual position remains where you activated the action.
    In a way, that works even better because in old FF titles, the pro of using Jump for Dragoons was that while they were in the air, they were un-targettable and couldn't be damaged for about a turn; with the way it works now, it achieves the same since you can't be damaged by the AoE unless you used Jump / High Jump while already in it when you activated it.

    So it used to be in ARR that all Jobs of a certain role had the exact same LB3 animations - and Bard, being the only Ranged Physical DPS and being mostly a support DPS, had the Healer Limit Breaks instead of a damage dealing one.
    The Tanks shared what is now Paladin's LB3, the Healers (and Bard) shared White Mage's, the Melee DPS shared Monk's, and the Magic/Caster DPS shared Black Mage's. It's why those 4 animations probably feel a bit more dated or "unimpressive" visually to the other unique Job ones.

    1:04 --- You can - but not Limit Break 3 😎
    The area this is filmed in is a normal dungeon from StormBlood. Its in "exlorer mode", which means no mobs or bosses, you just go there alone or with friends for pretty screenshots. You can place a dummy for battle effects and you have access to all limit breaks whenever you like.
    5:55 --- I think WHM is underwhelming because its an older job and they didnt went overboard with them that much...
    7:06 --- Nah, as a BLM you just summon a meteor (not Dalamut) down to earth to bury your enemies. No big deal XD
    7:27 --- LB3s can only be used in 8man content (and Porta Decumana when you get a LB3 granted by Haydaelyn). Sometimes the boss makes a "end it all"-move, then you use tank LB3 - its a requirement. Sometimes the party wipes, then you use healer LB3 - this is a "we f***ed up, save us, healer!"-moment, not so much a requirement gameplaywise (except in some Ultimates to cheese a mechanic). DPS LB3 is usually reserved for melees: theirs is single target and does more dmg, whereas ranged dd's and magic dps have multi-target LB3s, which does less dmg. Which is pretty darn infuriating, if you think about it. The only time you use a ranged/magic LB1 or 2 is in dungeon mob pulls - in Ultimates, Savage or Extremes, you never see their AOE LB3. Except in Alliance Raids, where strikt dmg numbers dont matter, and even then melees can get salty for "stealing" their LB3 (which is why I keep doing that ^.^ )
    13:59 --- They dont fall of because they dont leave the spot from where they start: its just an animation. Also, you cant use LB3 on a boss on a ledge because if he was, you usually cant target him, ego no LB3 to begin with. Also, you never miss an LB - UNLESS you're in the middle of charging up and the boss disengages - it happens. I think melees, needing a target, get interrupted unless they are too far in, than it goes off regardless. Ranged and magic LBs are screwed: they are in animation lock and cant interrupt themselves.

Some of the Heavensward fights it was better to use ranged LB3s to clear some adds so the melees could burst down another add. Or in UWU where you do the LB3 dance between the primals and Ultima. A tank, Healer, AoE, and melee LB3 are all required during that.

    Trust me, tanking in this game is so much more inviting, until this game I never even thought id be a tank main. started with Gunbreaker and I just snowballed to the rest of the tank classes from there.
    (that being said, Dark Knight should not be your first tank class as that one is a bit....unique in how it plays, it is very much not your typical tank class.)

    Melee-LB's are used most of the time cause they're single-target and do the most damage to bosses. Distance-DD's LBs are all line-aoe and Mage are all circle-aoe. Heals mostly get to use LB3 in alliance-raids when most of the party is down and need to be revived. Tank get to use LB very rarely but there are some raid-bosses you NEED to use them to avoid a wipe - Alexander for example.

      Well, UWU requires a caster LB3 to clear. But, aside from that, there are 2-target fights where a caster LB3 could be useful (e.g., Turn 1). Or if they're spread too far apart, you use a ranged LB3. The AoE LBs are always a gain on two targets over a single target LB.
      That said, I actually recommend that you use caster LB in dungeons on trash. It's not an LB3, but it's still useful.

    Fun trivia from back in the day: Bards lb3 used to be White Mage's current lb3. So to get the full party lb3 rez back during the coils of Bahamut raids, a bard was a must. They changed it later when heavensward released so that bard would have a ranged one and whm have a healer one.

    People who claim monks fall off of the arena when they do LB are talking out of their behinds. As a monk main, I can confirm, your character model just floats in mid air and returns to the starting point.
    The reason being is that there is no actual Z axis involved in limit breaks. Nor does your character ACTUALLY really leave their spot during the animation.
    There ARE some rare instances where you can be really badly placed and the game does a bit of weird hocus pocus where you do clip through and fall off, but that is rare and can be attributed to being a bug.
    99 out of 100 times, you are assumed to be in the spot you started casting your LB3 in. Even if your model is out of that place when an attack lands there during the animation.
    Even moreso. You die during cast/early animation lock and the entire animation goes off, the LB3 charge is consumed and it didn't actually happen. That goes for all of the LB3's even though the tank one doesn't quite have a casting time.

  • @TheAdventGamer
    @TheAdventGamer 11 месяцев назад +1

    I'm pretty sure Monks can use their LB3 without issue on ledge mobs same as any other class. I could be wrong. Might need to test this out.
    EDIT: So I went and tested it out on the P10 Boss. I was right. You'll have no issue as though it looks like your character blasts through, you yourself are actually rooted on the spot. That's just an animation.

    FFXIV Tanking is a lot less stressful than WoW, because in FFXIV you WILL know if the tank screws up versus if a healer didn't crack the glass for emergency heals or cast Lucid Dreaming before running completely dry. Tank-specific mechanics, such as Tank Busters, Tank Stacks and Tank Towers make this apparent and obvious enough for EVERYONE to acknowledge performance.
    In WoW, however, you could have done everything right as a Tank and "done not enough damage" (arbitrary demand parameter of the raid/party or raid/party leader; it fluctuates and changes depending on the mood the player is in and not because you've met the minimum requirements) and subsequently get kicked in favor of more DPS and one tank rather than two tanks, without warning.

      @gamester512 11 месяцев назад

      Plus, you're the #1 priority for Healers to pay attention to and keep alive, so even if you *do* screw up and take a boatload of damage, as long as that damage doesn't kill you outright (and even if you *do* die, your Healers, SMNs, and/or RDMs will be really damn quick to rez you), they will be able to get you back up to full HP very quickly (or in the case of a SGE, they could just drop a Haima on you to negate damage from the next 5 incoming attacks while they then go about actually healing you).
      Not to mention, the community as a whole is very understanding, so all you really have to do is inform them that you're not used to or are still learning how to tank, and more than likely they'll be happy to help you out and offer you tips.

  • @ericbright1742
    @ericbright1742 11 месяцев назад

    The first four are the Tank LB3s. Yes, the animations may get in the way of the mechanics animation, but considering they come with 80% damage reduction, they're usually used as "Get Out of Mechanics Free" cards.
    This does end up in a bit of a silly situation, where a raid group can't figure out a mechanic, so they decide to just say screw it and Tank LB to faceroll their way through it. Unfortunately, this does mean they never actually learn how to successfully do the mechanic, so as the expansion goes on and they get better gear, so eventually they get so good that they don't have the limit break charged when they need it. They either have to learn the mechanic, or _take off their pants_ so they take long enough to charge the LB before they get to that mechanic.
    NEST calls this the "No-Pants Strat"

    There are specific times when you want tank do lb3, but its pretty rare. Healer lb3 is lifesaver, if something went horribly wrong and most of team is dead. It situational.
    Most often its dps and since its usually just single boss you fighting, its melee job who does lb3 for maximum damage. Caster/Ranged dps lb3 is not very common to use. In more flex content, if you dont have melee or he is sleeping, you might end up using it. But normally its as tank lb. Only at speciffic times that are very rare you really want use AoE lb3, because otherwise its considered waste.
    In endgame its almost always melee dps, in crisis healer, but since dps check is tight you might not have enough dps after heal lb to kill boss before timer runs out.

    Tanking anxiety is definitely a good reason to want to delay tanking. That said, FF's tanking is actually very user friendly. You're effectively just another melee DPS with a simpler rotation generally speaking, and where to hold mobs usually isn't too bad of a choice. Don't stand in bad, don't face enemies towards the group, easy peasy. The rest comes with experience.
    Playing every role helps you understand what to do as the others though, so it's encouraged to play everything. If you play a healer, you understand what it's like when a dps stands too far out for heals, or a tank doesn't mitigate. If you play DPS you understand how annoying it can be when your healer doesn't pay attention to your debuffs and cleanse them, or when the tank won't sit still. Playing tank helps you understand how frustrating it can be when people don't let you get aggro by pulling ahead of you then scattering like the wind, etc etc. Playing everything to learn what NOT to do as everything else is encouraged!
