    In this video I will show you my method of taking an ordinary hedge trimmer (any brand will work) and turning it into an Extended Reach, or Telescoping Pole Hedge Trimmer. You can do this for free as I will show you in the video and save yourself $$$ by using items you already have around your house or shop. I'm always looking out for ways to save you guys money and make life easier. If you have a way to improve upon my idea share it with the rest of us by commenting below.

    as far as triggering it on and off I found the solution involving the least amount of modification. I happened to find some remote control operated plugs/outlets that are most commonly used like a smart plug or for lamps or whatever. I plug it to the end of the cord in between the trimmer and the extension and keep the remote in my pocket. that way I can turn it on and off easily just but pressing on it. came in handy a few times when my little girl came outside unexpectedly wanting to get a little closer than I was comfortable with.

    I think that is a great idea!

    Thanks for the idea. I made my own pole using a 5’ length of thick wall 1.5 “ pvc pipe and a modified 1.5” coupler. Saves me at least $75 and means less stuff taking up room in my garage.

    How do you bypass the safety switch that you have to press in order to operate the trimmer?

      I simply start the trimmer and then extend the pole (with the trimmer already running) out to where I need it to cut.

      @@ModernDIYProjects Doesn't every AC- and battery-poweted hedge trimmer now use a dead-man switch?

    • @ModernDIYProjects
      @ModernDIYProjects  2 года назад +1

      @@PaulStregevsky Yes they do. On this Stanley unit once you trigger the dead man switch it will stay locked in place. Once locked you no longer need to hold the switch down. On other units where the dead man switch does Not lock, I simply use tape to hold both switches for me in the ON position until I'm done.

    Real time demo missing ? Is it top heavy when using it?

    • @ModernDIYProjects
      @ModernDIYProjects  Год назад

      Not extremely top heavy. I use it all the time. It will help you build some arm strength though if you push the pole out really far. Not for the feeble obviously.

    This guy reminds me of the one who did the Mister Bill show with that hand movement at the beginning.
    This is no lightweght trimmer - I wonder if today's pole hedge trimmers are lighter in weight than this black & decker. This hack wont be adjustable in terms of angle, tho.

    • @ModernDIYProjects
      @ModernDIYProjects  8 месяцев назад

      That is true there is no angle adjustment the way I showed it. If you have a good bracket you could modify it to make it have angle adjustment. I just put the idea out there and left room for improvement for those that have the time but don't have the money. Like they say "Necessity is the mother of invention". I will probably do a review of one that comes already set from the factory to have adjustments in the near future.
